7th Parliament | What binds the ANC and DA together? Thabo Shole-Mashao weighs in

  • Late last night, Cyril Ramaphosa was returned for a second term as President of South Africa. In an unsurprising result in the election of the newly-constituted National Assembly, Ramaphosa beat out EFF leader, Julius Malema for the country's top job. The contest gave a glimpse of what the seventh administration is likely to look like - a partnership of the ANC, DA, IFP and Patriotic Alliance. The President-Elect told the newly-elected members of parliament that it is the people's wish that they work together. We are joined by Independent Political Commentator, Thabo Shole-Mashao.

After the ANC took over 30 years ago they had enough money to give every 10:21 citizen R1 million, so stop being happy with the scraps they have thrown you. Many have not even had a scrap. The oke cares about family, friends and self....and nothing else. He proved it with his first chance. Why would he now change the approach ? His agreement (and being paid yearly) by the EU to reduce Eskoms emissions yearly still stands and it is most likely why load shedding suddenly increased in severity, stages and became permanent for more than a year directly after the agreement. People tend to forget that....since the SA media did not focus a lot of coverage on it. That severity and permanence crushed businesses, cost 1000's their jobs and did a lot of harm to the economy....but.....he received his cash for having definitely reduced emissions

A proper GNU would have been great. The DA/ANC agreement which requires the consent of the DA if other parties are to be allowed in, is basically a two-party coalition government with the DA having the upper hand. South Africans may get a euphoria of everything being fixed in the next few years but what happens in the long run? Will the DA/ANC's privatization policies of South African assets cause SA to become a slave to these private companies in the future?
