    Loved the video! Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing your art and your story. I would love to see a video on the S9 too. I have the S5ii and love it but want something more compact for travel and every day use. I’m hoping that the new 7Artisan 18mm lens will help make the S5ii a little more travel friendly. I’ll post a video about that once I get it if you’d like to check it out.

      I think one of the best way to cope with GAS is to just go out and shoot more. Sometimes you'll be surprised with how good your existing gear can be!
      I have a few more videos lining up so stay tuned!

    Hi Wen.
    Good to see pictures in a video about this camera as many videos concentrate on video aspects. I recently got a GX85 as a little walkabout for every day and it is a wonderful camera. As a result I have started looking very seriously at this camera. Good that you have overcome your G.A.S. issues and realised its the photographer and not the gear that matters. Enjoy the rest of your week.

      Hi Colin! Thank you for the kind words.
      I think Lumix cameras are underrated for photography. I find the S5II to be a very fine stills camera. I have another video about the GX9 vs the S5II on my channel, do check it out!
      Cheers.

    I shoot with Lumix S5iix. The workflow has become so much easier with this camera. I use kit lens and 50mm 1.8 lens. I wouldn't add more lenses just as yet. I want to keep the creative side open.
    Previous camera I had was Sony a7iii with 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 24mm f2.8 and a kit lens. Sold all that and now sticking with these two lenses and I love it.

      People always comment how Canon or Fuji have the best color science, but I think Lumix colors are up there with best. Also, Real-Time LUT is infinitely more useful than Film Simulation.

    I feel you bro. had the same GAS syndrome. It was endless struggle. I finally sold my cameras, GH5II, ZVE1, ZVE10, AX43 and GF10. I just restrict myself to ZV1 M2. From here i have started to learn to shoot video and pictures in manual. Try to learn framing. it has been four months now. it has made me happy.

    Loved the personal touch you gave this video talking about your experience with GAS. I can absolutely relate. I have the G85 and really want this camera mostly because the 85 has awful autofocus.

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Jansley! Glad you enjoyed the video.
      The S5II would be a huge upgrade from the G85. But you do have to buy the new L-mount lenses. If you want to continue using the MFT lenses, perhaps you can consider the G9II or the GH7, both have the latest autofocus from the S5II.
      I think it's a good time to buy a S5II now. Lots of great deals on the S5II out there right now. And the L-mount lenses are priced very competitively so if you do decide to switch, at least it isn't too painful.
      Cheers!

      I shot a wedding back in September with my wife using this S5II and the GH5II, and the videos are just gorgeous 🤩
      No fancy lenses either, we only used the 20-60mm kit lens and 50mm prime on the S5II, and the Leica 12-60mm kit lens and Lumix 42.5mm prime on the GH5II. Turns out you can produce incredible results even with relatively affordable gear if you know what you're doing 😉

    Hello from France …. Very good video, Trying to choose between s5ii and a Fuji xs20 or xt50

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! Glad you liked the video. I think all three cameras are excellent choices, really depends on what you want to shoot!
      If full frame is important to you, get the S5II.
      If you shoot more stills and only shoot videos occasionally and casually, then the XT50 is a very good stills camera.
      If you are a hybrid shooter that shoots about 50/50 stills and videos, both XS20 and S5II are great options. The deal breaker would be weather sealing, dual card slots, and full frame (for the S5II). If these aren't deal breakers, you can go for the XS20 and save yourself some money. Personally I will lean towards the S5II (but that could be my own bias)
      As for lenses, both Fuji and Lumix S5II have great lens choices, with Sigma making lenses for both systems, you have great options.
      But my gear advice will still be for you to go to a camera shop and try each camera out. There are many more things about a camera that isn't written on the specs sheet. You will only know whether that camera works for you or not after holding it in your hands.
      Hope this helps! Cheers

      I use manual mode mostly. But sometimes when the sun is bright enough I use aperture priority.
      As for picture profiles, all my videos are shot entirely in V-Log profile and graded in post, while the photos are mostly shot in Standard profile, sometimes in Real-Time LUT using some free LUT packs I found online.

    I've moved from micro Four-Thirds Panasonic to 135 Format Panasonic with the S5 Mk II. It's more heavy than the GH4, but it feels so similar and very smooth. I considered the Z5 then, the Z6. Then, I bought the S5 Mk II. It's going to be wonderful.

    • @wen2film

      @@wen2film For 1 month, I've been trying to adjust the settings to what I used on the GH4, where it makes sense. I miss my 4:3 image ratio. I've been using that since 1997.

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SakaphotoGraphics Perhaps you could try shooting in the 6K 3:2 Open Gate settings for the S5II, and then cropping the image to 4:3 in post?
      That's the only way I could think of that could work for the S5II if you really want the 4:3 aspect ratio.

    • @SakaphotoGraphics
      @SakaphotoGraphics หลายเดือนก่อน

      @wen2film thanks but I meant 4:3 for stills. I always shot 16:9 for video. I need to try Open Gate, though.

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SakaphotoGraphics Oh, you can totally shoot 4:3 stills on the S5II. Just go to Settings > Photo > Image Quality 1 > Aspect Ratio and change it to 4:3. You will lose some resolution though (21MP) but that's totally doable for the S5II. Good luck!

  • @WidePhotographs

    Do you feel more comfortable using the s5ii over the z5. I myself had the z5 but sold it only because I want a full frame camera with great video recording

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I prefer the grip of the S5II, but the Z5 is a very comfortable camera to hold as well. I have no problems holding both cameras for extended periods of time.
      But the S5II wins in terms of button layouts imo, it's much more customizable than the Z5 (almost all buttons are customizable), and S5II's D-pad that can also function as a dial is very helpful.
      But I do sometimes miss the dedicated video and photo mode switch on the Nikon Z cameras, the S5II 's video mode is located on the mode dial and not a dedicated switch. It's not as intuitive, but it's not really a deal breaker either on the S5II, just something to get used to.
      As for video, the S5II is just amazing for video. A huge upgrade from the Z5. The 10-bit 4:2:2 recording on V-Log profile has completely changed my video workflow and I would never go back to 8-bit video recording again. It just looks so good.
      Hope this helps!

    • @WidePhotographs

      @@wen2film been debating to either get the s9 or the s5ii. I only need it for video recording and I think the s9 is great since it is a lot smaller. It will not be used in professional setting.

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WidePhotographs if that's the case the S9 might be a better buy. It has almost all the video features of the S5II minus the fan. That said, the grip is also a lot smaller and you might want to buy an extended grip for better handling.

    Z5 isn't a good comparison.

    • @wen2film
      @wen2film  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Joshua, thanks for watching and commenting!
      The Z5 isn't a good comparison I know, the two cameras are targeted at totally different people for different uses at different prices. I brought the Z5 up because that's what I had before I got the S5II, and how I changed the way I see my craft after getting the S5II.
      This video isn't a comparison between the two cameras, a better Nikon counterpart to the S5II would be the Z6III. But unfortunately, the Z6III wasn't out yet when I switched from Z5 to S5II. And during that time, the Nikon counterpart to the S5II was still the Z6II, and S5II, being the newer camera, is just an objectively better camera than the Z6II, hence my switch to S5II. Had the Z6III came out a year earlier, I might have stayed in the Nikon camp ('cause Nikon lenses are amazing)
      Still no regrets after the switch though
