I have been wondering what I'll upgrade my Fujifilm X-S20 to in the future. I used to think it would be the Fujifilm XH2s.. now I think it will be the Lumix S5IIx. Thanks for the video.
not by far, and i own the S5ii and S5iix. for video they are good, far from great let alone godtier: 4k crop, rolling shutter, strong moire, 6k only 4:2:0, bad hdmi latency, battery drainer, lens choice very limited, no phase autofocus in FHD
@frankenstein2735 Agree this camera is not 'GODTIER' but Let’s keep it real, you have to factor in price point, the year of release and the competition. To address your points… 4k crop, Agree, this is the worst aspect of the S5II/X in my opinion as I often shoot real estate videos, and I want my 14 - 28mm to be whatever I set it at - however. 1080 is perfectly fine on this camera if you don’t need to crop much and if you’re shooting wide you usually don’t need to so while it’s not ideal it’s expected for the price at least when it was released early 2023 and all of the competition at the time had the same issue and usually for a lot more money like the A7IV. Let’s see what the A7V brings to the table, which is expected to be released early 2025, hopefully that will set a new standard. rolling shutter Agree also but every camera in this price point is the same more or less. You can crop into APSC to help with this but if you’re shooting sports or action stuff, this isn’t the camera you should be buying. strong moire, Yes, in certain circumstances though I’ve rarely experienced it over the last year or so and when I do I find a 1 - 2% softness on those shots fixes it. Not ideal but not a deal breaker for the price and what you get for it. 6k only 4:2:0, Yep, again not ideal BUT hey why isn’t it 4:4:4?? Hell, I was working with that back in the late 90’s. Oh yeah price point. Is there any camera around this price that supports 6K open gate at 10 bit 4:2:2? Besides 4:2:0 10 bit is way more than anyone in the market for this type of camera really needs. bad hdmi latency Agree, not the best but not unusable in most circumstances. battery drainer Really? On average I use around 1.5 to 2.5 batteries on most shoots, and I bought 5 of the bastards because of people like you are always complaining about battery life so I was expecting to need many more. Now when I use this camera to shoot an actual all-day event you know what I do?? I plug in a USB-C power adapter and the camera goes all day!! If you need great battery life for whatever it is your filming, you either need a V-Mount option OR another camera fit for purpose. I could also argue that this camera doesn’t fly so it’s shit for drone shots. Personally, I'm rather impressed by the battery life especially based on what I heard about it but maybe I don't expect the world for this price point. lens choice very limited Disagree, there’s already more than enough options including 3rd party lenses which if part of the L Mount Alliance are as good as any Lumix lens at a lower price point. I mean how many lenses do you actually need?? Is there really a lens that you absolutely need that doesn’t exist? Maybe a 14 - 600 F1.2 for $1000? Also give it time, the lens choice is pretty good now but every year there’s more options. no phase autofocus in FHD Wrong. It’s not about FHD or 4K it’s about the frame rate vs frame size. PDAF will work on 4K and FHD on anything 25/30p using the full sensor. Any faster frame rates will switch to CDAF unless the sensor is cropped which is why you still get PDAF in 4K 50/60 as that is in APS-C mode and the AF doesn’t have to work as hard… however 50/60 - 100/120 in FHD can use the full sensor so the camera switches to contrast detect AF.
I've made the same switch from Fuji to a pair of Lumix s5ii bodies and I've been very happy so far. I mainly shoot photo and the af and image quality is excellent. Great videos mate. Looking forward to more
I love my S5IIX, but if you mostly do photography, the S5II is better price-wise. I once saw it selling brand new body for $1400 on Newegg, but then the price went back to normal. Honestly, the S5II and S5IIX punch way above their weight. There’s no such thing as a perfect camera, but the S5II and S5IIX are very close to perfection at this segment ; they are god-tier.
The sigma 24-70 ii never leaves my s5iix. Such a great lens. Also got the Meike 50mm 1.8, its an incredible bargain at 150 quid. A true nifty 50. The 20-60 now sits on my old S5 as a b-cam and does a great job for a kit lens.
Was Canon photographer from 2008 with a lot of different EF optics and 5d bodies. 1,5 year ago bought s5IIx and now this is my favorite camera. Redently bought Sirma 28-45mm 1.8 and now it`s perfect combo
Already when Fuji released their X-T2, with upgraded 4K capabilities, still on a sensor without high-pass filter, they fixed the moire issue (present by ALL previous models) by shooting the video footage in 5K and than internally downsampling it to 4K before the footage was written on the memory card. Why Panasonic didn't learn that from Fuji when they OBVIOUSLY learned so much other stuff, is anybody's guess. How to fix your problem? Shoot video on that camera with mist filter or with vintage lenses, maybe that could ease the problem a little bit...
Had my S5IIx for 13-14 months now and love it. Can you not shift the moire by altering the shutter angle/speed for that shot? Assuming it’s easily visible on the screen. I know sometimes in a rush that a very small area of it can go unnoticed which is annoying. 🥴
@@LowryDroneography-Steveunfortunately flickering lights are an issue caused by changes over time, while moire is caused by spatial differences. One pixel picks up more data about an object than the one next to it, creating that pattern.
For a channel named "rossandhisjpegs" I would've thought you preferred shooting JPEGs 😂. For moire, you can "fix" it in post by slightly blurring selective colour channels. This gets rid of the false colour or the dancing rainbow patterns in video. In photography, since the patterns are not moving, they're a lot easier to fix.

Thanks for watching and the info!!
For Moire, change your distance from the subject normally helps immediately. This happens with LED Boards a lot as well.
Cool thanks!

Great video...i just bought the S5iix and wanted to know more about it. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! 🎉
Kolari vision sells an OLFP filter to cut moire and it seems to work very well
Good to know thanks very much!

if it just had a low pass filter, faster sensor read out speeds and less lag on the HDMI it would be the best cam ever
What did you shot this video on? It looks creamy ??

Not sure shutter speed relates to moire? Maybe it does haha
@@rossandhisjpegs Not 100% sure but thought it could be corrected like the same principle as flickering lights. Will check it next time it happens!
