Do you ever hit a plateau where you just can't cram any more information in? We need more visibility for rockstar scientists like this guy. Someone who your average person can really relate to. "Amateur" does not mean "bad" or "inexperienced". It only means it's his hobby, not his job. There are plenty of amateurs who are way more knowledgeable than some professionals.
Actually, most freight train crews have specific "routes" in a particular leg of the line, so that the trains can always have fresh and alert drivers. Usually 1-200 miles iirc, and that's for the major mainline railroads, like CSX, Canadian Pacific, Norfolk Southern, and BNSF.
Dude, I really thought he's an old Italian mafia turned botanist on the coyote burrito video. That was very wholesome and I subscribed to his channel instantly.
Joey is a perfect reminder of why it should be a nearly-criminal offense for people like the DeVos family to be allowed to influence anything related to colleges, tuition, student debt, etc. It should be a crime to gatekeep higher learning, knowledge, and usable training/certification behind such ludicrous pay walls. I'm not saying Joey here dropped out of college because of costs, or that he didn't drop out because it simply wasn't for him, or that he doesn't like driving trains, or anything like that. What I am saying is that Joey is a brilliant reminder that there ARE just an incredible number of people out there who have a very rare kind of sponge-like mind for a given subject, but who end up doing something completely unrelated and unfulfilling to them because the necessary certification (i.e. diplomas,) are gatekept behind ludicrous paywalls and other money or status obstacles. The privilege to receive a piece of paper that declares you knowledgeable enough to participate in a given career, is a privilege of people with money, but that rare mind for a given subject has absolutely nothing to do with wealth or income. It's unfathomable the American system has become what it is. You know, when the Boomers were in school, they were able to pay for their degrees with just a part-time job. School was _very_ inexpensive for the most part. But they ruined that excellent status-quo. Damn, man. What a profoundly sad state of affairs.
That guy is the shit and I love his channel. He cracks me up. I wish my science teachers were more like him.. this guy connects with me and the other stuffy types don't.
Omg! I LOVE this guys content. I had no idea this was him. Not at all what I expected. His wealth of knowledge had me thinking he was older. I like him even more now knowing the amount of passion he must possess in order to attain so much in such a short life span thus far.
This man inspired me to learn more about the plants native to where I lived. I starting posting the plants I found interesting on my snapchat story and discussing what I learned about them, and got a ton of positive feedback from friends and even people I don’t really know. I plan on making a channel for it soon as sc isn’t really a good medium for the content
TBH After watching this guy for a while, I was expecting a man who had tats all over his face and looked like Jason Statham, only as an ex convict. Instead we got a handsome man with great style.
What a "cutie" he is too! Hey, Mr. Botanist, if you're offering any outdoor tours on Botany in the near future, I would love to attend! I'll try my best to keep my eyes on the plants, but there's no guarantee! 💗💗 .
I was born and raised in Chicago. I moved to FL 3 years ago. This is the FIRST time i have ever been able to hear the "chicago accent." Also, to grow ANYTHING in chicago, besides corn or beans, is absolutely astonishing. That place is a frozen tundra 6 months out of the year.
The soil is also post-glacial lake muck with lots of clay. The number of plants and flowers that can grow in that soil is limited. The border of Lake Chicago, which retreated 5000 years ago is roughly that of Cook County.
Why do people who moved to Florida from the Midwest always exaggerate the length of the cold? Frozen tundra? Buddy its Illinois, not Nunavut. 6 months? Not even. I moved from Florida to Texas and now Minnesota, further north than all of Illinois and much of Wisconsin, and not even here are there "6 frozen months." More like three and a half or so. And I see more plant life and flowers than Florida. In the spring you see more flowers in a Midwestern garden than in an entire Florida city I swear to God.
it's good to see the face behind the internet voice. In October 2021 he is currently in South Africa. He's finding some seriously interesting samples there.

Def not nyc. I heard that Chicago inflections in there. Probably from an inner city informal part of Chicago.
LOL Born and raised on the South Side-you can take us out of Chicago but as soon as we open our mouths "da accent comes out over by dere".
@@PC4USE1 definetly south side

Most underrated TH-cam channel by far! Joey is the man!
I love this guy. He is legit and his content is great, and so informative.
I hope his channel grows to millions of subs. He deserves it.
Love Joey to bits - his raw honest comments on stupid lifers and super enthusiasm for the most precious living beings on this planet. Nice to meet you Joey - thanks for taking us on walks in the wild places.
"an addiction to information" i am the same. I try to learn something new each day. And he helps
Do you ever hit a plateau where you just can't cram any more information in? Doesn't it all just kind of run together and become this chaotic mess - like picture a messy room with crap strewn all over the floor, stacks of crap piled to the ceiling and you know all your stuff is there but you can't always find what you need?
i love how this is somewhat through the lens of "if youre from chicago you cant be a botanist"
for me it just reaffirms the fact a lot of people have forgotten what its like to be alive and others see this too
Came from a similar background... His videos inspired me to continue to learn about what I’m truly passionate about. They pulled me out of a pretty hopeless and miserable state.
💚Thank you so fuckin much man!!!!!!!
I’m so glad he’s finally being discovered by more people. His videos are the best
We need more visibility for rockstar scientists like this guy. Someone who your average person can really relate to. In our current anti-science political and social climate, science overall (at least in the US) needs a face lift in terms of PR, and people like this are perfect. This guy is passionate but relatable to the masses, and I mean that in the best of ways
Well said
He was a railroader raised close to where I’m from and he’s definitely been my number one inspiration.
This is by far one of the best channels on TH-cam
I absolutely LOVE him, LOVE his channel, and really admire his appreciation for the nature all around us!!! He's hysterical, down to earth, and a real deal Chicago guy...which I happen to enjoy listening to his accent being a native Chicagoan myself. He really knows his stuff!! And it's truly amazing what he has done for his neighborhood in Oakland, CA. He's just a really great person, and I find his stick hilarious! It's always fun learning with some humor! Thanks for spotlighting him, he's a wonderful example we can all follow and learn from! :)
I just found his Chanel a few days ago and love it. I Can’t stop watching his videos.
I don't think he would wear perfume.
Oh shit. Watch out the grammar police are out in force.
Next year we will start a support group. For now, enjoy the ear hug you get from his sultry tone and wicked sense of irony.
Same!
@Dick Head Just wanted to say that your comment made me laugh so hard I almost cried. Thanks for a good laugh.
It's a lot younger than I imagined from his videos. Great to put a face to that voice.
NOT an amateur! One of my favorite channels!
"Amateur" does not mean "bad" or "inexperienced". It only means it's his hobby, not his job. There are plenty of amateurs who are way more knowledgeable than some professionals.
Just found this man, this week. Cannot believe how I missed his channel. Love his delivery and find his knowledge of the natural world extensive.
I love the “thank god they didnt develop” part. I love him. I wanna ride trains by him and learn plants while drinking green tea.
Freight train driver, that would explain how he is always releasing videos from all over the place
people also pay for him to go visit their area
He stopped working for the railroad but he’s said that a British lady funds some of his travel
I love this dude, I found his channel a couple weeks ago.
I had many college professors, and the best teachers were those who made learning fun.
It's a real gift sir.
Thanks bro.
There's hope!
That guy is the shit and I love his channel. He cracks me up. I wish my science teachers were more like him.. this guy connects with me and the other stuffy types don't.
"fir da ticks"
He is incredibly knowledgeable and freely shares this with others. I love his channel. Its human.
Omg! I LOVE this guys content. I had no idea this was him. Not at all what I expected. His wealth of knowledge had me thinking he was older. I like him even more now knowing the amount of passion he must possess in order to attain so much in such a short life span thus far.
This guy is just doing what he loves and is educating all those out there! Props to him! He seems like a chill dude. 😁
Joey Santore aroused my interest in botany. He has an appealing humility in his way of communicating lessons. And he has a charming accent, after all.
Wife and me watching him last night. She said, "is he for real?" Brings it to life and with humor
This guy is great and funny. I love wandering through nature and looking at everything and when I watch his videos it feels like I'm there.
I’m Chicago born & raised and he was the classic Chicago Italian accent.
I SUBBED TO HIM ALREADY IM SO PROUD OF HIM AND TY FOR COVERING HIM BC HE DESERVES SO MUCH MORE ATTENTION HES A GEM
Found his channel about a month ago and really enjoying it.
LMFAO what the hell thats where I went to smoke weed when I was in high school
@paul w most likely a hybridized cannabis sativa/indica, cannabaceae family. The genus being cannabis 😂
😂😂😂😂
Cool. Story.
My best friend, It's always great. Your video is excellent quality. We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks
This guy is the funniest and most informative on TH-cam.
TBH After watching this guy for a while, I was expecting a man who had tats all over his face and looked like Jason Statham, only as an ex convict. Instead we got a handsome man with great style.
One of my favorite utubers, thanks for spotlighting him!
I totally revere this mans irreverence.
his reverence.
What a "cutie" he is too! Hey, Mr. Botanist, if you're offering any outdoor tours on Botany in the near future, I would love to attend! I'll try my best to keep my eyes on the plants, but there's no guarantee! 💗💗
.
I watch his channel all the time. He goes all over the world and he totally takes you to school with botany. I love him.
That brain, those dimples... Makes my heart flutter.
Ayo
Good nose, too.
It’s the accent for me 😩
Yeah...who knew that intelligence is sexy.
Same. He's brainy, and beautiful.
Yep, Joey’s TH-cam channel is terrific. 👍
I just bought a guidebook because of this wise guy!
I was born and raised in Chicago. I moved to FL 3 years ago. This is the FIRST time i have ever been able to hear the "chicago accent."
Also, to grow ANYTHING in chicago, besides corn or beans, is absolutely astonishing.
Possibly the man of my dreams...I adore his passion!
Iove his channel I wish more people that love science and nature had more of a unapologetic attitude about the real world and what's at stake.
He's one of my favorite TH-cam subscriptions. I can binge watch his videos for hours.
Oh thanks for the plug. I actually really enjoy watching Joey's videos as they are full of great historic and botany information, as well as a very catchy accent and dry humor.
I did secretly believe he looked a bit more gansta, than the guy with glasses and slim face :P
I'm both amazed and dismayed that they managed to film enough of an interview without having to bleep anything.
I also heard no profanity...I am from Chicago also. my guess is the interviewer has bias against this guy.
People always say “be yourself” and when you’re yourself people see you as not normal.. this guy is just himself and I love it 🤞 be yourself
