- An excerpt from 'The Inside Story' documentary featuring Prisoner's 'Mrs Nice', Elspeth Ballantyne, being interviewed by Anglia TV announcer Paul Lavers. This is from when Elspeth, Patsy King & Glenda Linscott came over to the UK in 1989 to star in the first Prisoner stage play.

A lovely woman who still looks absolutely amazing. Prisoner was a fantastic programme which I thoroughly enjoyed and meg was always one of my favourite characters.
I hope this lady lives a very long, happy and healthy life. I pray that God protects her and keeps her safe forever.

THANKS! I'll look for it. Wish I could've seen it live as it was meant, but I live on another part of the planet and wasn't even aware of the stage version. (Even the TV series only ran for one year where I live.)

Meg is my favorite screw. Ellie Ballantyne, as she was called by her fellow mates is my favorite person from Prisoner. I read the book by Betty Bobbit, and she was and still is one of her friends, Ellie needs to write a book about her career. I would definately buy it. I'm an American. I also saw her in an episode of Matlock Police on here.

I half remember that Matlock episode I'm sure she played a gangsters girlfriend , sure Patsy King had a similar role and Betty Bobbit was in another episode in a non speaking role.

I respectfully disagree. Meg had a job to do but she genuinely cared about the prisoners. She was a professional. Vera only got 2 out of 3; she had a job to do and she was a professional, but she saw the prisoners as "animals" and treated them as such. She went out of her way to instigate trouble with the prisoners and constantly undermined Erica's authority. The difference between Meg and Vera is clear in how the prisoners treat them. They treat Meg with respect and seldom use her first name.
I think it's superb! Try pulling off a ballet spin and then crashing to the ground without hurting yourself! It's beyond genius!!!
Mrs Barry was the best looker. I'm jealous of Chef Merv.

Nice thought but not true ...most were believable but there were some terrible actors. It's part of its charm .

Actors often seem to forget the details of the storylines they were involved in. Meg didn't perjure herself. She refused to answer a question that would have incriminated Judy Bryant, and was sent to prison for contempt of court. It was also only a few episodes, not a few weeks, although I suppose it might have been weeks if it was only on a few times a week.
Also didn't mention the fact she was raped and became pregnant.

Wish I'd known about the stage play at the time. (Was it ever video'd? Not that it'd be the same as a live performance.) Prisoner was very popular here in L.A. during the one year it aired, but then it vanished without a trace. I never heard a word about it again (besides talking about it with friends who also watched it). And then last year when I happened to stumble onto it at TH-cam.
Guess those people being interviewed don't understand that the interviewer is asking them who their favourite character is not the nicest. A whole episode of Meg would send anyone to sleep.

I like Elspeth and her character Meg and I don't believe what Val says about Elspeth at all. Val, like her character Bea, seems to be too blinking arrogant and touchy with people no matter what they say or do. I have not really warmed to both Val, nor Bea, sadly.
I agree there is a lot of backlash about that subject but who cares Elspeth is a lovely lady who loves her kids and live and career so that's all that matters
Everyone raves about Val Lehman, but I'm not a fan either. I prefer Elspeth on and off screen.
The interiors of Cell Block (including the cells and all the offices) were they filmed inside the building where the fake windows are outside on the red wall, where Neighbours is filming now?
AFAIK I think that's true. The outside "prison" was just the studio with a "Wentworth Prison" sign placed during outdoor filming. And inside is the soundstage where interior shots were filmed.
@@Irishgui83 so can you confirm if the studio where the interiors were filmed are now used for Neighbours or is that set somewhere else? also what about the outside of the Neighbours hospital, with the reflective glass, where is that?

Yeah, I did wonder about that. 692 episodes at 3/4 of an hour each. But then I thought about all the stuff they'd have to cut to fit an episode. We don't see ALL their hard work.

Seen "Wentworth"/"Wentworth Prison"? It's a re-imagining of the same situation/characters, and has been embraced just as much around the world.These stories endure, for some reason.
