John use to run a shop with his Dad Brendan on Suir Road Kilmainham, "Hylands" was the first 24 hour shop in Dublin (before the arrival of branded "convenience" shops) and frequented by taxi drivers, shift workers, and late night revellers on their way home. On selling the Suir Rd shop John took over "Alex's" in Georges Street Dun Laoghaire and then moved to the corner shop in the video which was at one time ('70's) a pet shop. Congratulations John on a lifetime in the newsagency trade providing a great service and always with a smile.
When plain packaged cigarettes were introduced in 2018, I was able to still get the beautiful blue box of John Player blue in there for a couple of months afterwards!

This fella had/has a shop across the road called Alex's lucky lotto. We used to go in for cans of beer after the nightclub.. he had them stashed out the back.. he'd say "make sure nobody see ya coming out of here with them cans this hour of the morning". It been well after closing time and he having no licence to sell alcohol.. Gas man...

Hi Ronan. I was wondering what kind of microphone you use? The sound is fantastic
since this video, John mentioned that one of his staff is taking over the shop.
How about the abusive children's home on tivoli road
