When I was a kid in the sixties I built like this. I could not afford to buy the sheets if tissue so I use Man Size Kleenex which worked fine but you had to be gentle applying the dope. It did the job.
I think putting some roundels on the wing might help draw attention away from the patchiness, this is definitely my kind of plane! Love you're channel Mark!
That is turning into a very nice model plane. Your idea of imperfect is mine for character. It is a good thing we are all different. I would never have that pale blue as a colour, nor the black. But they work well together. It needs that big free wheeler propeller, 20" diameter I think is the limited maximum size. So, a lot bigger than that plastic item.
Thank you for the comment and suggestion, totally agree regarding the prop size. I am interested to see how the prop supploed in the kit performs, which I expect will be not very well. Once I have flown it I will change it to a 17" that I have, be interesting to see the difference
Thank you, pleased you liked the video. The tissue paper needs to still retain some strength and not fall apart when wet, so you need to test the tissue before use
For trimming tissue, buy some cheap safety razor blades online. They're really cheap, come in huge multipacks and are far, far sharper and cheaper than scalpel blades. They're no good for balsa because they're too flexible but for running along edges to trim tissue, they can't be beaten.
Not to cope or anything, but that slightly mottled effect makes it look like it was covered with the most thin and fragile of tissues, if anything it sells the idea of the vintage performance plane feel with the most weight saving in mind, when in reality with that doculam it is as puncture proof as a brick.
Looks really good, Love the colours.
Thank you! 😀

Thank you very much, greatly appreciate your kind comment, I will be putting on some decal which will do as you suggest
Looked absolutely fine to me. Not forgetting its meant to be a vintage model and non perfect finishes make it look vintage. Coming along just fine 👍
Thank you very much, greatly appreciate your comment 😀

Thank you for the suggestion, must try it sometime 😀
I’d cut the varnish fifty fifty with water and just use that for all steps.
Would this process create a surface that would readily accept paint ?
Yes it would, very nicely
@@MarkRobinson555 I'm tempted to try it on a laminated wire cut foam model

Hahaha, great point, thanks you, appreciate the comment and support 😜
…quality of the tissue? It’s from EBay!! 🤷🏼♂️!
