My Friend Pete lays it all down on why you should let the body shop do what needs to be done and not to interferr with the the shop owner. A professional shop will blend paint when necessary no matter what. This is a good example why paint blending is needed in most cases when you wreck your car or truck
www.swrnc.com or 972-420-1293
It gets really old when the customer tells you how to fix their car.. Can someone relate to this?
I dont listen customers..blend on all cars and thats what recomend all paint company..and they pay for it
Yes it’s called ignore them
Once she said no blending, I would’ve had her come pick up the truck
If the customer didn't want a blend done,I would first offer them a quote for an overall paint job(the only other option to blending by the way),and if they refused the overall offer,I would then escort them to the shop and kindly ask them to demonstrate for me another technique that I apparently wasn't aware of
if you Love Jesus Christ as Your God ......the World is gonna hate you Pete.......just the way it is ( and has to be ) - much love Jay.
HERE'S A GREAT IDEA PETER, Maybe not tell them there will be an extra charge for blending the paint. What they don't know won't hurt. In your case, you are not ripping anyone off because you do a professional job always, and your work is always beautiful and as soon as the customer gets their car back they are gonna love what you did to it. PROBLEM SOLVED.
Nailed it 😉
You're awesome Pete. I'm an amateur / do it yourself body man and have learned a lot from your experience. Thank you. Tom
Most panel repair jobs , HAS TO BE COLOR BLENDED, PERIOD!!!! Pete you’re 100% right, and we in this industry all do it, or it will never match!!!👍👍😎😎🙏🙏🍮🍮
I'm an estimator at Caliber Collision (one of the few times I'll actually mention my employer; it keeps me out of their social media use policy). Our rule of thumb is that if a repaired area gets within a clipboard's length (11-12") of a panel edge, the adjacent panel gets blended. Exceptions to the rule:
When repairing a fender, we don't do the hood automatically. Hoods are 3-4 hours of paint time generally.
When repairing a quarter, we don't do the trunk automatically. Trunks can be anywhere from 1-4 hours of paint time generally.
In these cases, our client will not pay it.
We don't blend bumpers. It's a different substrate (plastic versus metal) and so the reflective qualities of the paint will differ and it simply won't match most times. There's nothing we can really do about that. It just "is" unless you're ready to pay the painter to find that "magic match" alteration to the paint recipe that will match the metal surface. This could involve several test panel shoots and possibly multiple coats on the bumper. That then gets into the problem of sensors. They can have only a few layers of paint where the signal can get through - radar for blind spot systems, ultrasonic for parking.
Caveat: I've been off work since 10/16/2024 with a heart bypass. In that time, my home shop has gone from doing solely rental cars for one client to picking up insurance work, so I'm going to see if the blending rules change when it's insurance work. They pay our full rate. The rental car client pays 2/3 of insurance rate.
Thanks for the verification on the corporate end. 🤙. Good luck on your heart surgery 🙏🙏🤙
This was so refreshing to watch and listen of how to properly blend so true I bet there are tons of painter who can't or don't know how to move colors around or know what a color wheel is
From the beginning of your videos Pete , since 2009 …. You had me at “ DOIN IT RITE DOIN IT RITE …. DOIN IT RIGHT !” 👍🏻💪🏻
Great video young man! Look in to buying an electrical surge protector to use when dent pulling with your machine. Cheers , William. And YES, I agree 100%. Blend blend blend
You have to blend old and new paint no matter what. It will never match. UV rays impact old paint, different paint manufacturers have different colors even though they say they are the same, etc.
Yeah I prefer on the phone or in person conversation.
Text has its pros though, making sure it is on record
I agree with you 1000% Pete! If you would have left it without blending it’s damaging to your reputation because everyone would see it didn’t match!
Just like you said if they think they don’t need blending why don’t they just do it themselves if they know everything about paint and body 🤷♂️
You did a professional job and it looks outstanding! I would charge her, but that’s just me. God bless you brother, Jesus is King 🙏
One horse's ass made the dent and another horse's ass tried to tell my friend Pete how to do his job. Good lesson, thanks Pete!
💯 I work in a High Production shop. We blend It and send it!!
UV light will also change the color over time. I've removed bumper stickers and found the paint under the sticker to be darker.
👍Pete giving facts out, pay attention folks!👍
Hi Pete !
I really love all your video !!!
I've learn a lot from you and Minnie !
Keep up the good work !!
Good thing I didn’t totally comment before the end because I was going to bring up the fact that my brothers shop never ever puts in his blend it’s all part of the bid.
I deal with idiots everyday. U said it perfectly.
...situation ..gas door was gouged up..had to blend with quarter panel and rear door ( i think it was a kia suv)...yep depends on color/metallic/pearls,,etc...and yes Pete is correct plastic bumper covers do not match 100%... its just the way it is....
Yup I agree Pete I also hate when they try to tell me how much there going to pay me to do a job 🤦
I F*cken Approve of this Message - Great Video !
Truth Spoken Here
Correct. Blending paint is super common no matter how close a match you got. I was always annoyed when clown acts tell me how to do my job.
Vevor took makes a good dent puller something like that
if you watch Vtuned channel, he uses one, very good product.
Easy dent. Heat shrink and cool. Always blend. Always ! Door, hood bumper if needed. And charge for fender or door decals
Well said PETE
I got out of the repair business years ago because of customer bs. Got tired of dealing with people.
That's right my friend Pete, don't tell them...👍
Just do what needs done and charge the appropriate amount and be done with it. They want to keep as much of the insurance money as possible in their own pocket and try to pay as little as possible for a repair.
Nice music Pete
800 door for blend. insurance usually pays to detrim door. Only gives an hour or less for for door blend. Maybe 1.2 to blend hood
I like your work and this repare is good stuff mite paint less repairs have worked ??
Did you see the dent ?
I had a red truck under parking lot lighting every panel was different.
That’s what it is Pete. You know what is best. Yeah new to chase em away.
Another thing, so much communication is lost in text! It need to be in person or by telephone call. Texting in such situations is ridiculous! Why can’t people just communicate in person or by phone 🤷♂️
Exactly. Texting makes you feel like the customer doesn’t trust you and they’re creating a paper trail of he said she said bullshit.
Do you disconnect the battery my friend Pete?
No. When not I use it’s hooked to a trickle charger and I only plug it in when need be
I can relate to customer telling me what to 25:00 do,anyway I had Progressive Insurance, they told me to replace right fender and paint just fender Victory Red.So I painted it lik
e they said ,anyway it didn't match so I called Progressive and told them to be here when customer comes to pick up vehicle and all I heard was Insurance wasn't gonna pay and then sh## hits the fan customer starts walking around in circles and cussing Insurance Co,long story short customer gives me a 100.00 and ask me Insurance check and extra 100.00 enough to make right and I told him yes, cause I was ready for it to leave so I could work on another car
Nah. Text is good. Nobody can say “I never said that”.
👍👍👍
I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t tell her how to raise Horses Pete.
If the customer knows more than you they should do it themselves.
If a customer knows more then you, Then tell them to fix it themselves.
Plastic reflex the paint different than metal.
Pete next time just bid the job to get paid what you need to accept the job, don’t open up a worm hole and say it’s gonna be extra to blend. Then you would not be doing it twice. You do expert work but you suck at dealing with the public. No offense
Dude is very angry. Lol
You should've just included the $150 from the git-go and blended it and saved yourself the trouble, she doesn't even need to know how you're doing it to begin with, as long as she gets her truck back and dunrite
color is way off from the fender to hood....too yellow n green..more white tint w/violet blue would kill the yellow
The fact you taped off all that trim on that door to blend it makes me cringe though Pete. I get it it’s a free bee but it’s a new truck. Knowing that was a panel repair I woulda did a spray out even on white. If that was silver or anything else that’s an automatic blend no question.
30yr bump paint guy
Anyone in this business has dealt with this type of customer within their 1st year! Even insurance companies play the same game! The fact that Pete is still bitching at his age means he has not learned how to handle these situations and established any ground rules for his business.
GFY
...wonder why she didnt want to talk instead of text
But match
just put it in the price and they can't say anything.
She pays for the Job...or she Walks or rides her hoss.
Are you mad at me?
It isn’t a nice car any longer, you wrecked it, blend the paint, get over it.
A few calls on phone will helpped
Jesus, relax
Another obamanation .
Nice job, did you ever consider PDR?
Paint was cracked and chipped off
