This is a rare rare treasure with surprises all over the place. Who would have thunk that Tom Buckner's 1750 Arch Street Records was a player in this show, and why not? To have this extended interview with Ligeti coming at us in two languages was a hoot, and because German was a second language to Ligeti, it was comprehensible. I saw mention of JB Floyd, who played Larry Austin's Accidents at U.C. Davis in th60s along with Ives' Sonata #1 and Schumann's Kreisleriana. How's that for a show? But I don't see the connection here yet...thanks for this gift...
Poor old Nankey! Spends his life perfecting player pianos - only to see his life's work effortlessly superseded by computers. Should have been born 50 years earlier/later.
register shifting from the German voiceover and the Spanish subtitles which I can understand a bit better, to the actual spoken English which I couldn't hear, made me a bit dizzy
Sorry. A bit long. But at the begining says the most important words. He says: "for me, this is a subjetive judment, Nancarrow is the best current composer, at the level of Johan S. Bach or the older Beethoven".
20th century, what an astonishing century for music 💚
Study No 21 - my current favourite. Love it.
Best video on youtube
Well, it's not in English, but I came because I wanted to hear Ligeti's voice. Thank you so much!
