    I worked for U-Haul for 5 years, in a store. One thing I acquired respect for was the way the trailers were built. I don't know anything about the travel trailers, but U-Haul designs and builds their own utility trailers, very high quality, built to take a beating from renters who don't necessarily care, and last a long time.

    This really is the perfect little family camper in my opinion. Its literly everything u NEED. Camping is ment to be outdoors. Camper is to keep you safe dry n sleeping arangments. Cooking if need. Just get a little porta potty and ur all set !!!! This would be my dream , but i have four kids lol. Still id much prefer the smaller size campers. It just feels so much cozier and fun for some reason. Prob reminds me of my childhood i guess lol
    Non the less. Wonderful little camper.

    The space below the hanging closet was for the heater. Yours was removed. ORG. Cooling was by a swamp cooler.. We just sold our all original CT-13. The complete rig bumper to ball is 13 foot, the box is only 10 and no toilet you need a porta potty that is stored in that center cut under the bunks.

    I lived in one of these for about 2 yrs. Traveled coast to coast 3 times, as well as up and down the West Coast. Pulled it with a Chevy S10 4cyl 5 spd. Does yours have original registration in the little pipe underneath? Good times. Great looking, original, complete looking unit you have there.

    • @OurGoldRoad
      @OurGoldRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is so perfect for towing because it’s so light. We love it. I’ve never heard of a little pipe underneath. So I will have to check.

    • @civilcivilian
      @civilcivilian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurGoldRoad Very cool historical tidbit for you there. Steel pipe with threaded caps on both ends, about 8 inches x 2 in. Plastic tube inside should have original registration showing where it was originally set up for rental service and was probably auctioned off at the same location. That's my understanding, anyway. Mine did have it as described.

    I am interested in a 13' U Haul travel trailer. It looks great. Have you had any issues with yours? I have a Hyundai Santa Fe - 6 cylinder. Do you think I would be able to tow the 13' U Haul camper?

    • @OurGoldRoad
      @OurGoldRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a great little trailer. Know that most of them (if original) can have leaking issues with the windows. (We have very slight issues on the side windows. We will be rebuilding them soon. We always store it under a roof. Actually, if you watch our Tyler State Park video, you'll see we even put up a large tent to keep it under AND have additional patio space to hang out outside.) Some of them leak at the door, so the gasket would need to be replaced. Make sure the elevator bolts in your frame are present and not rusted, and replace if needed. Outside of that, it has been a great trailer for us. Every used trailer will be unique with issues, but these are the common ones if it's in really good shape.
      As for your towing, the trailer's dry weight (empty weight) is about 1100 lbs. Unfortunately, I can't advise you on your tow vehicle. I will say that it's commonly advised NOT to exceed 80% of your max towing. Google "how to calculate towing capacity" and read several posts. There's some math to do.
      And as a note, the Uhaul CT doesn't have trailer brakes.
      Best of luck!! (And if you haven't already, check out the other tiny fiberglass campers like the Boler, Trillium, Scamp, Burro, Bigfoot, Casita, etc!)

      @OurGoldRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark! Sorry for the late response as we were on a trip!
      Originally, the Uhaul CT had a gas furnace which could be controlled with the thermostat. We removed it (still have it in the shop) because we needed the storage where it sat, and our cold weather trips are rare in the south. If we need heat, we have a tiny space heater that we've used.

    Where did you vent the AC, through the floor?

    • @OurGoldRoad
      @OurGoldRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cut 2 holes (one for intake and one for exhaust). I cut 1 hole on the door side of the trailer for intake. I cut the other hole in the front of the trailer for the exhaust. Then I drilled a hole in the flor underneath the A/C for water condensation drainage.

    • @OurGoldRoad
      @OurGoldRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have 2 vents cut in the trailer for vents. I have one vent at the bottom right of the door for the air intake (for the side of the A/C). The second one is at the bottom-left on the front of the trailer for the exhaust (at the back of the A/C). We also drilled a small hole in the bottom of the trailer floor for the condensation to drip out.

      They also had a 16 foot option. And no, they don't sell them. They were a rental option at Uhaul in the '80s, but at the time it wasn't profitable. They would have killed it if they were still doing it.

Owners will list their campers for sale in the group when they are ready to let them go. You can also check the website fiberglass-rv-4sale(dot)com - several makes of fiberglass eggs are listed for sale on that site. We found ours on Craigslist using SearchTempest to search a 1000 mile radius. 📌 I will say that because they are rare, be ready to travel for them when a good one comes up. We drove 17 hours for our CT and then camped on the way home. Good luck!!! 🧡

    no offense but what is wrong with southerners that they install the A/C unit on the floor? This isnt the first camper I seen like that, your losing alot of cooling power. Cold air is heavier, and floats to the bottom, hot air rises. Thats why A/C's are usually window units, or on the ceiling. No wonder Texas goes crazy with 6 feet of snow.
