@@xsct878 there are ways i guess, farmers control the majority of the food, what happens if someone decides to do something else with their harvest? food issues gain city notice much faster than more corruption, most are dead inside to it now. @Rahvin Keaves banks have that one sorted. Corporates captured uni ag departments decades ago and convinced farmers to buy ag products, get into debt, now they have no leverage. I moved out to Outback Queensland to teach remotely, the same LNP over saturation is here too, lack of upgrades and businesses being denied access to towns is common. The local council here banned a seafood truck that comes out from Rockhampton from stopping in town because the local "grocery store" owner is on the council. Its a joke.
Not sure if you'll see this or not, but at 18:06 you asked why they test up stream. This is common practice when monitoring the effects of sewage treatment plants by showing background levels compared to levels past the outflow from the STP. That document you posted shows almost a 4x increase in total coliforms and a doubling of e.coli.
Im Victorian, so not as across NSW, but assume that the NSW EPA planning approval for the sewage site would have limits for the STP listed within its requirements. Does anyone know/can link to the approval? Would be keen to see how these results compare, but my understanding in general is that those sort of readings are fairly high.
@@nhodgie I'm not sure what their legislated limits are, ANZECC guidelines on water quality only really deal with faecal coliforms and e.coli specifically, while total coliforms include a lot of coliforms form soil, hence the background levels of 517. It's hard to really tell because they haven't specifically tested for faecal coliforms. Also during my time water testing I had little experience in e.coli, faecal, and total coliforms, so this is definitely an area I'm rather sloppy on.
@@TheWolfsLunch so a quick scan has the allowable faecal cloroforms discharge limit as 200 units/100ml withing the Permit, while the NATA report friendly supplies listed ~1900 (total not just faecal, however the background/upstream readings are at around 500, giving ~70% as likely sediment contribution from the plant), and the officially reported results for last year are at max 200.... so where is this seperate NATA testing comming from that Jordies has, and why does it appear on first pass to not align with the officially reported EPA testing results? But admittedly, I'm checking all this quickly on my phone, so will have to read it properly tomorrow.
I lived in a rural NSW town for about 10 years and saw plenty of corruption, dodgy dealings with council and police involved in most of it. Part of it is now the whole Windsor bridge fiasco. Even a prominent drug dealer operates out of the area and police look the other way. The didn't even care when I gave them info about a drug related murder that was all over the news. It was too much for me and so I had to leave. My father also experienced it back in 1990 with a Lake Macquarie (NSW) council using its powers to force him off his land. He wouldn't sell to a resort being set up by a Order of Australia winner who regularly used local councils to take over small caravan parks so he could capitalize on their success with his own resort style replacement. My father took them to court and won but had to deal with a lot of threats and intimidation for the duration including from police. Thankfully he was a strong man (and a lawyer) who gave as good as he got. Then there is the whole police and political corruption surrounding a prominent politician (Mayor of Lake Macquarie) who was being groomed for premier of NSW in the 90's. Too bad he was grooming young boys at the same time. Somehow he escaped serious punishment (only 3 years) and was able to leave the country for Canada. One of his pedo mates took the fall (and still does) and a police officer (presiding?) killed himself with his own gun after a mysterious phone call. The police actively ignored victims who came forward with at least one taking his own life. There is so much more that suggests there was a serious pedophile ring in Lake Macquarie and Hunter valley involving teachers, police and politicians that only parts have been uncovered so far.
Good on you for putting this together. My partner has a proprty down there and we've long suspected something strange is going on with rate notices from the council. The water usage bill is HUGE and well beyond what any normal tenant would use in a day. We called the council to double-check their numbers but they weren't budging. We also asked them if there was that much water being consumed wasn't it a worry to them in such an arid area? They said there's no upper limit on the amount of water residents can use - you could literally have the tap running all day and they wouldn't care. People like that should not be in power.

@Jay Dee not necessarily. Rural voters should be supporting Shooters, Fishers & Farmers if they stand for the policies the Nationals pretend to stand for. And if they don't like corruption. Labor and Coalition are also worlds apart. Don't buy into the false equivalence in the faux-left media narrative about Labor. They're definitely not without fault (I rarely preference them first, not for over 10 years), but they don't steal water, they respect environmental referral processes, and they actually sack corrupt people and refer them to police & ICAC.

My parents moved from Melbourne to Deniliquin a few years ago, we holidayed there for decades and that's where they decided to retire, beautiful small country town by the river, even proposed there in feb this year because my partner fell in love with the town, the vid is on my channel. Anyway, The first time I visited their new home up there a few years back i distinctly remember the shower water smelling awful like a combination of dirty river water/ sewerage. It got so bad my parents started to notice it worsening even whilst doing the dishes. My dad contacted the council and other bodies several times to ask whats going on with the water, we've been visiting Deni for decades and have never had this issue, every single time he makes an enquiry he's met with the exact same answer: " it's within EPA guidelines" nothing more, nothing less. He asked if the person on the phone if they lived in Deni? would they drink it? Would they bathe in it? Same response: "it's within EPA guidelines" What they've done to the Murray/Edwards and Riverina areas waters and ecosystems are absolutely abhorrent. There is NO WAY that water is within EPA guidelines and ive said next time I come up im getting samples but a part of me also knows that no matter what my findings it will just be swept under the rug like this, like they also do. They've destroyed so many beautiful towns and ecosystems all in the name of greed. Pigs.
Just a stray thought but have you considered doing the test then giving the findings to someone like Jordie or Michael West? If he can get people on the ground running these tests for him over a number of locations in these seats it would be definite proof that this corruption is a widespread practice. It would be a lot harder to sweep under the rug if a case like that can be made from someone with a following...
If you really want to get mad about this, look up the rate of motor neurone diseases around there. And then look up the link between blue-green algae and motor neurone.

i used to work in the shit works, thats a pasfeer or however its spelt system, probably atleast 50 years old based off old epa requirements, they’re pumped into the pasfeer, aerated, and let to settle, the clear water at the top is what gets decanted and discharged, which is then dosed with chlorine (maybe, if it does anything at all) but those systems dont do too well at controlling ammonia and nitrate content, as well as all sorts of bugs which chlorine will only kill so much, i wouldn’t be suprised if the effluent that is discharged exceeds epa “limits” anyways
The conversation around 27:00 is exactly the sort of thing that Sarah Taber (@SarahTaber_bww on Twitter) talks about in rural areas of the USA. They're controlled by a handful of landowning families who specifically DO NOT want economic development that benefits the whole community because that will decrease their power.

Holy revolving plastic Jesus, I'm terrified. As somebody who grew up in & still has strong ties to the Lockyer Valley, QLD, from the very first 'popular fish&chips' gag I've been overwhelmed with deja-vu. I just know, in my bones, that these exact same kind of foul, corrupt, double-dealing shenanigans have been going on 'back home' forever, or at least since I was old enough to be aware of 'other people's lives'. This is the sort of thing that's so common out there, it's 'normal'; it's standard conversation fuel, it's what people talk about after church, or at the pub, or waiting for the bus. Sometimes it feels like anyone with any real stake in the community has a direct or near-direct experience of blatant political corruption, but somehow, tragically, it's become such a standard, expected part of the 'rural lifestyle' that people don't even connect it to voting and political participation anymore. It's like lack-of-rain, potholes, or telemarketers; people just write this stuff off as 'inevitable', then turn to the Murdoch tabloid nonsense for their political information as a kind of sick, twisted 'antidote' to the crushing banality of their actual community needs...

"FORGET IT JAKE, IT'S CHINATOWN" Classic quote Jordan. Narrandera is as corrupt as the Government of 1930's Southern California was. You could've lifted the plot wholesale and modernized it in that town. The political game is dirty and disgusting. A Federal ICAC couldn't come quicker enough.
The rail feasibility report they won't release, surely an incredibly simple possibility is that there just is no report. Somebody just took $500,000 and couldn't even be bothered writing a report? I mean, it is not likely, but surely it is an option that could be considered.
Good point, Barnaby "delivered" ~$675K worth of drought envoy reports via sms's to the pm - which he can't see to find now coz it's another phone or something...
The report either says it cant be done or it can but it is too expensive. They don't release this so they can keep on dangling the possibility of a railway every election time - if there is a report people can cite that when they make the proposal again.

I moved out to Outback Queensland to teach remotely, the same LNP over saturation is here too, lack of upgrades and businesses being denied access to towns is common. The seafood truck can bypass that by just doing phone orders and deliveries.

Crikey!

Same response: "it's within EPA guidelines"
What they've done to the Murray/Edwards and Riverina areas waters and ecosystems are absolutely abhorrent. There is NO WAY that water is within EPA guidelines and ive said next time I come up im getting samples but a part of me also knows that no matter what my findings it will just be swept under the rug like this, like they also do.

Jordan, Whilst I loved the joke about the fish shop at the start, that building was the original "Popular fish and chip" shop, they just moved. 😂😂😂
Fun fact; the old shop was so dirty that the air vents were clogged with fryer grease. They caught fire once 😂
Geez, didn't know it was that bad! 🤢😂
4:06 -- they note at a meeting days after "the site was completely dry." Do they not know about evaporation? The liquid is gone, but the ground is still poison.
"You make mistakes, you get things right, you get things wrong. I've always realised in this job, if you own up to where you may have failed, people respect you for it and that's why I think the public are right behind the Premier."
Quote from John Baliaroo the day this was uploaded. The irony isn't even funny
I hope you’re all ready for an unforgettable luncheon.
MMMYES :|
Dude I got a pizza just for this

Imagine giving him the budget of a current affair the amount of change could happen
Having lived in Steph Cooke's electorate and hearing her brag about all the grants she gets but not having seen the outcome of one. I am not the least bit surprised.
Ask her about that. Tell her you don't see the results of the grant money and you want to know where it is going.
Wow, I forgot what actual journalism looked like until this
I grew up in another small town in the same electorate and felt pushed out as I became an adult as once I finished highschool there was nothing left for me there. I had to leave as I wanted to get a tertiary education and did not have that option without leaving. So I really resonate with what they have said about the fact the government doesn't seem to want the young peole to stay or for there to be population growth.
So in like 20yrs? There will be nothing left of the town
I felt the same in the small “national” seat in outback QLD, it’s mostly surrounded by gas fields now
in 20yrs it will be all mines, gas fields, fracking, corporate farms - whatever is most exploitable.
vote the bastards who support the gutting of our nation the fuck out; federal, state and local.
>"its an hour long minus whatever we have to cut for legal reasons"
>video releases and its half that length
jesus christ
Props to jordie and the team for trying to do honest journalism while being stalked and probably marked for death, felt like i was watching an extra episode of the first season of true detective.
Geez, corruption at the highest form.
Didn't think it would be this bad in Australia.
Thank you for this documentary, I will be sharing it as much as possible. The council members need to be held responsible for all their actions, whether good or bad.
Calling Narendra council now to tell the staffers to watch this video.
Call them and ask them to respond to the allegations of corruption aired in this video, I just did and they shat the bed...
Revisiting this thread for an update on these calls.
@@willlarsen6967 Would defo love to hear from other people. Oddly enough I left a reply here before but I had the Narrandera council phone number in it and I assume that's what got it deleted. I spoke to a lady at what I assume is the front office about 30 minutes into the premiere. I urged her to look into a video about Narrandera Council that had been released that morning that was "going viral"
The response was a predictably confused "Oh uhm, ok thank you"
Subsequent calls made by other users have asked directly what they know about council corruption. I would enjoy hearing replies from anyone who spoke to them directly as I cant call them myself right now as because I do not have a council slush fund, my phone is cut off lol.
I think if you dug around rural NSW would you find most of this commonplace. I know I used to live in a country town north of Narrandera and the corruption was so out in the open, that a 14 year old (me) could see it.
If it's north of Narrandera, is in in Leeton's electorate? Worth checking in and seeing if it's gotten better under Helen Dalton?
they're "rust belting" other towns to keep them dependent on the Nationals?
Government corruption is basically just a larger version of when you're a kid and your parents deny you small allowance because they're too broke from their gambling addiction. Who are you gonna dob to? Your parents?
Having visited Nerandera during 2008 for work, it's spooky seeing not change a bit.
Seems the nationals are happy to destroy the town for practically no reason other than to maintain power over old people
Amazing work Jordies and team, this should be the benchmark of journalism
Bruzfeed delivers once again
This Labor aligned comedian would make a pretty good journalist.
That poor little boy. His cries just made my heart break.
It totally broke my heart. How could these people be so utterly cruel to a child? I feel so bad for his family too, especially his mother.
I am in awe of the work friendlyjordies does.
WHERE is the mainstream media? WHY are THEY missing in action?
Also be aware that Murdoch bought APM recently and most local newspapers have been shut down so no local council coverage now... recipe for corruption.
Narrandera Argus is a very independent newspaper, not owned by Murdoch
This is a core problem
@@scottrowlings5345 Good to hear. I was commenting more generally. How is their Council Reporter getting on? Any scoops?
@@scottrowlings5345 is it owned by a council buddy?
@@XX-qj9sj ...I don't know if the owner is a council buddy. Looks like the council has lots of buddies... any scoops?
"FORGET IT JAKE, IT'S CHINATOWN"
Classic quote Jordan. Narrandera is as corrupt as the Government of 1930's Southern California was. You could've lifted the plot wholesale and modernized it in that town.
The political game is dirty and disgusting. A Federal ICAC couldn't come quicker enough.
its more like Queensland from 1968-1987
The political game is an organised crime syndicate
I'm glad you and your boys got out alive Jordan! Following you guys closely from across the pond in the UK!
"Consequently the attitude now is what's in it for me, more than what's in it for the Country. I see a tremendous lack of vision in the Political process"
- John Sullivan
Truly a comment that he will be remembered for.
Gladys will just say again "I Don't Need To Know"..
"Woohoo!"
Jesus Christ Jordie Team, this is fantastic. And if you ever need a safe place to hide out in Canada just let me know.
"There's no lab in Nerrandrah" "A cop in Nerrandrah can see a meth lab from his balcony" well now, I think I know where that $20,000 lab benchtop went.
Watch this get zero coverage from the ABC, Murdoch, Fairfax, etc.
If he gets any coverage at all it would be something like "racist controversial Labor aligned comedian attacks rural towns"
It always perplexed me how some councils and local governments seemed to deliberately run their communities into the ground. Now I know why.... POWER!
Commenting just to get the algorithm to pick this up, but jesus the saddest part of watching this was knowing that the attention this'll get from aussie mainstream media is jack. My heart out to all the regular folks in Narrandera and every other National stronghold town.
Giving a voice to the voiceless, standing up for the little guy, nothing but respect for you brother good work
The death-shriek of the cockatoos is strangely ominous
