    Some things to note: Some monitors support DisplayPort daisy chaining allowing you to attach one monitor to the next allowing for fewer cables to the thin client providing a clean setup. Also, a UPS may not be needed when using a virtual desktop. If your workstation loses power, you will not lose work as your session will be saved on the server which (should) also be UPS/generator protected. One last thing, the 5070 supports many other VDI clients such as VMware, Microsoft RDP, PCoIP, and more. It is not limitied to Citrix, unless your organization has specifically configured yours to do so via policy from WMS.
    I use a 5070 to telework from home via VMware Horizon and it utilizes DP daisy chaining to feed three 1440p monitors with fewer overall cables.

      Thanks for the comments! In my opinion using one cable to each monitor is a less problematic setup and is more intuitive for the average user. It is actually the same number of cables if you count them. Also on the monitors we have you have to go through the menus to enable multistream functionality (which a lot of users are not familiar with the menus on their monitors). But glad to hear it works for you!
      I hear ya on the UPS not being required if using VDI. But they do protect the physical hardware from damage caused by power surges, brownouts, etc., and in my opinion are a good investment. Thanks!

    Good video, but what I am looking for is the beginning of all the cables installed not the end product. Ty

      Sure. It's kind of hard to record video while climbing all over the desk though. Maybe I need a GoPro I can mount on my head. 🤔🤣 What part were you not able to follow from the video?
      To summarize: Each device needs its own power cord. So in this case, you'd run power cords from each monitor to the UPS under the desk. Also you need a DisplayPort cable for each monitor (3) between the terminal and the screens. There's also three USB cables between the terminal and the monitors (to activate their built-in USB port hubs), a USB cable between the terminal and the UPS (so it can monitor power status), a power cord between the terminal and the UPS, and the network cord from the terminal to the Ethernet jack in the cubicle. The mouse and keyboard are wireless, so all you need to do for them is plug in the receiver. These are all pretty standard connectors used by most modern desktop computer equipment, you can't really screw them up. A DisplayPort cable won't fit into a USB port, for example. 😉
      In my example video, everything is routed through cable looms, the triple-monitor stand, and the stand-up desk adapter (all purchased from Amazon), but not every installation would have all this extra equipment. Hope this helps!

      Hi again! As I mentioned before, it's really pretty straightforward. The DisplayPort cables can only plug into DisplayPort ports, the Ethernet network cable only fits in a network port, USB cables only fit in USB ports, and so on. About the only thing to "watch out for" is some monitors have both a DisplayPort input port and an output port. The output ports are for special daisy-chain configurations. Unless you are doing that type of setup, always use the ports labeled "input" on the monitors. Hopefully this diagram will help:

    Can a PC with Win 10 or 11 have the Thin OS on it as well? Tri - monitor setup! Recently found a tossed out Dell Wyse AIO 5470. Thank you 🤓

      Hi! Thanks for checking out my video. My personal opinion is that if the machine is capable of running full Windows 10 or 11, stick with that. You may need to upgrade the memory or storage, but that's going to give you a much more functional device vs. any of the "thin" OS's available. You may need an appropriate license, of course, if the machine was never licensed for full Microsoft Windows.
      Congrats on your find!

      @@CompTechMike that should be "nice tri - monitor setup"! As a kind of hobby I look for electronics in dumpsters and curbside stuff. The Dell Wyse AIO (found in a box by an apartment dumpster I check periodically, along with an additional Dell 24" "P" series monitor ) has Thin OS 9.3.1129, has a Quad core 1.5Ghz CPU. From what I have learned from other videos where a small size Wyse PC is upgraded, installing Win 10 might work but may not run as well as expected. Win 10 Tiny or Win 11 Tiny would work, & Linux or similar would do good too. Thank you. I don't know how upgradeable the 5470 is.

      Hi! Thanks for checking out my computer videos. I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. Yes, most modern desktop computers and operating systems support showing different images on each connected screen. This is a function of the OS and hardware, and is what makes things like dual/triple/quad monitor displays possible.
      Are you having difficulty locating the settings in Windows?
      Perhaps these additional videos may help:

      th-cam.com/video/4ytTXViarO8/w-d-xo.html
      Obviously you will need a computer that supports multiple connected displays. If you're working with a laptop generally this means you'll need a docking station. And if you have a desktop PC, you'll need the appropriate graphics card (to physically plug in the multiple screens).
      Most desktop PC's manufactured in the past decade do support multiple displays. If you'd like to comment back with the exact make & model of your hardware, I may have more specific suggestions. Good luck!

    Hi Mike. Can you set up 4 displays with this client? 3 Display Ports and 1 VGA?

    • @CompTechMike
      @CompTechMike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Thanks for the comment. That is a very good question. And one that I don't have a good answer for at the moment. My experience with quad monitor setups is pretty limited. In the past we've done a couple of them. In my experience, the weight of the equipment (4x 24" monitors + Planar quad monitor stand) was such that I had concerns it would collapse the desk. It was very heavy! Also, there always seemed to be "something" wrong with the setup. A loose cable, or something like that, which would require additional assistance from the IT team.
      That said, this was on a much older regular Windows desktop PC. I have not tested quad monitors with a Wyse terminal. I should be back at that office sometime in the next week or so though, and would be glad to "plug one in and see what happens". Will let you know! 😊

      @@ScottyCBBQ Hello! Just wanted to report back to you on my testing. Hooking a 4th monitor up to the available VGA port on the back of the terminal immediately disabled the third DisplayPort monitor. I suspect it uses the same "channels" on the motherboard. So you can either use one or the other, but not both. I was unable to find any setting that allowed enabling all four physically connected monitors simultaneously. I suspect this is a hard limit, given the limited capabilities of the device. There might still be some kind of way to enable the 4th monitor using something like a USB video adapter, but you would need to work with your IT support team on this. Most Wyse terminals do not allow the installation of additional software/drivers that would be needed to make something like that work.
      I'm not ruling it out as completely impossible, but it's not as simple as just "plugging it in". At least not if you have the same model equipment as we do. Sorry! 😢

      @@CompTechMike I appreciate the update. I bet adding a video card would work but that is a little more than what we want to spend.

    • @CompTechMike
      @CompTechMike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ScottyCBBQ right. I mean, obviously you can't add an internal video card in this type of computer, but a USB-to-Video adapter (such as USB-to-DisplayPort or USB-to-VGA), with proper drivers, may work. I've had pretty good luck with them on regular Windows desktop PC's. But getting one to work on a Wyse terminal like in this video would be tricky.

      Hi! Thanks for the comment. The specific model shown in this video does not, no. It only runs on a Citrix virtualized environment, with appropriate servers. Although I suppose you could set up the infrastructure for Windows 7 via VDI, but I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of work for little reward.

      @@arkillerking1519 Hi! I'm afraid I don't have whatsapp. I recommend upgrading to a more modern operating system. Windows 7 end-of-life was more than two and a half years ago. Many manufacturers and software publishers are no longer supporting it. I recommend upgrading to a supported version of Windows 10 or 11. In most cases this is a free upgrade from Windows 7. You may also want to take advantage of this time to perform other upgrades to your system, such as more memory or an SSD drive which can greatly improve the performance of an older system.
      If you'd still like to share a picture, I recommend posting it to Imgur and sharing the link. But upgrading your operating system to a supported version of Windows would be my first recommendation.
