- Jya jatana, tya shaataa ~ Rashtrasant Pujya Gurudev Shree Namramuni Maharaj Saheb
Vedaniya Karma is the Karma which induces feelings of Pain and Pleasure in any soul. There are 2 types of Vedaniya Karma - Shaataa Vedaniya Karma (that which gives pleasure and happiness) and Ashaataa Vedaniya Karma (that which causes pain and suffering).
Elaborating on the cause and effect of Vedaniya Karma, Pujya Gurudev explains that when compassion dwells in the heart, it automatically arouses in us care and concern for every soul and every living being. And this care or Jatna helps us bind strong Shaataa Vedaniya Karma. Thus, Seva or Selfless service is not just meant for helping someone else. It is indeed the cause of our own Shaataa in the future. On the other hand, our vices like jealousy, our ego, our competitiveness as well as our lack of concern for somebody’s pain and sorrow, ultimately invites Ashaataa Vedaniya Karma for ourselves in the future.
And thus, the reason that compassion and humanity is an immensely essential quality for every individual is that all living beings want to be happy. No one likes pain and suffering. What we wouldn’t want for ourselves, we shouldn’t do to others. Compassion for others in reality is compassion for your own self. The one who’s heart beats for others, never has to worry about his pain or suffering. It ultimately gets taken care of, and that is the biggest teaching of the Theory of Karma.
