Bought me a nice pre-ownedHassy with 3 lenses. Oh my, it's so much fun, the Zeiss lenses are simply magnificent and it's much easier to focus than I thought it would be. Don't barf but I have mounted the lenses on my Nikon D810, the rich contrasty colors & details the lens delivers in my Nikon are wonderful.
A year ago I watched this video and knew I had to own a Hasselblad (500 cm ) , we have been in a loving relationship ever since . I will always be grateful ! My favourite lens is ALL OF THEM
Love Hasselblad cameras. I sold my beloved 500 C/M last year thanks to national managerial issues, but I have lucked into a nice 500C recently and I'm thrilled to get the lens back from CLA. The simplicity of this setup reminds me of why I love it so much.
This is fantastic Bellamy, even though you're super immersed in film and cameras, it's fantastic watching you get excited by a camera. I still get the same feeling with my 500C/M when it gets a run out. Nice to have the option of 6x6 and 645 backs too and I love taking it out on a tripod to shoot at night, it's a joy to use so I can completely relate!
501CM to me is the perfect Hasselblad. No electronics, no TTL dial which is only useful for like 1 model of flash, and it has the gliding mirror system to not have vignetting in the viewfinder for longer lenses. These reasons made me buy one a few months ago
I worked as an assistant for a large London studio complex eight studios in one building) back in the 80s, and loved using these gorgeous cameras. I would love to own one myself some day. My boss at the time had four bodies including an ELM, and a full range of lenses.
400H was a film stock that I had trouble scanning with a DSLR because I wasn't able to get colors right. Once I started using Negative Lab Pro, things became right and started to love this film stock. Sad that Fuji discontinued it the same way they did with Superia Xtra 1600 (a favorite of mine for rainy or night street photography)
Love my Hasselblads. Had a 500c/m for a couple of years and was given a 503cxi by a dear school friend. The C lenses of the 500c/m are good, but the CF and the CFE lenses with the 503cxi are just phenomenal! The look and feel of the cameras is fantastic too. You just know you are holding a wonderful piece of engineering. It certainly turns heads too, and not just from photography geeks like us!
I recently got a 501c in black with the original 80mm Planar in black that came with it. All in near mint condition. Unfortunately the Acute Matte screen seems to have been replaced for an older one.
Nice video and great photos. I'm glad I heard about the discontinuation in time and that my favourite Dutch supplier had enough in stock, so I bought 5 boxes.
I really like that the mannequin is out of focus! Because the wall behind is so sharp, it makes you think the mannequin should be as well, but because it's not, it seems more like a ghostly apparition that you can't quite see all the details on, can't be sure it's really, because there is something ever-so-subtly off about it. It almost gives me the chills, and it does the specifically because the mannequin is just slightly out of focus.
Awesome camera and well presented video , grabbed a few roll of pro 400h myself before it’s all gone , would be nice to see some more shoots with this camera , cheers

I totally agree with you regarding to your favorite shot of this roll. Can`t avoid seeing a crack of smile on your face when you looked at that picture, THAT is what photography should always make one feels. Great review. I was never a 400h shooter, but I gave it a chance when I traveled to Japan ( a part from the huge price difference from any imported Kodak film in Japan), and I got really lovely results which i ended up making a zine with the pictures :)
Well they're a niche company in a shrinking market. Leica kinda takes all the oxygen and even they don't have the muscles to be completely independent. Hasselblad could have faded honourably into obscurity but I'd rather see them keep trying. And let's be honest, the 907X is kinda exciting. If nothing else the V compatible digital back is useful for film photographers since you can use it to check exposure and lighting without having to deal with Polaroid backs. I think the film for those aren't available anymore.
I was quite sad when the discontinued PRO400H, it was the film I shot all the way though my last 2 years of school and that colour pallet for me has really become tied up in those memories of that time in my life. I was quite lucky though to score 3 boxes of it in 220 a few weeks before the price hike so I still have some stashed away for when I want to revisit that beautiful colour pallet again.
Great video buddy - I got mine in london with an 80mm. The light seals on the back are easy to replace and the quality of the 80 is stellar …….. my only real issue is getting the ubiquitous 1/4 pro mist filter on it using 60b to 67mm step up rings….(once you’ve used the bayonet you can’t use your bayonet mounted lens hood ) …… other than that just slam in a roll of cinestill or silbersalz (remembering to wind on carefully of course to preserve the gear train) and hit the streets. It’s ridiculously cool.
The Hasselblad is masterpiece, it is my go to for 120 film. I own a 501CM and 500CM, they are such workhorses. When I hit the streets and want to be lighter I opt for the Rolleiflex 2.8F, but the hassy is my favorite 6x6 camera! Thanks JCH for sharing this vid! 👍🏻
Great video, love the photos you got here. They look really nice with that neutral tone. Scandinavian skin tones always looked kinda weird with the 400H, but I loved using it for city and landscape stuff. Sad to see it go.

Great camera but kept mine for only a year. As few of my pics were square I switched to Mamiya RZ to get the real film estate when cropping. Zeiss lenses were excellent but so were those for RZ and a few were even better than their Zeiss equivalents! Now shot Mamiya for 15 years and no regrets.
I have 2 ,, a black and a silver , sadly selling a the black to fund a fuji g617 , the hasselblad is such simple camera and pure experience , everybody loves it ..its a Leica m3 on steroids .. anything without a meter and batteries is worth a look , there is something about holding a pentax spot meter and working out your exposure or using the sunny 16 and shooting , their is something rewarding about shooting without any electrical or computerised aids .. and yes they will go and on and on and on and on ...
Owned a 500cm for several years and found it cumbersome to use; not ergonomic, more like taking photos with a brick. Funny thing though, I found using a TLR easier to handle without the fear of dropping it. Mechanically it was like a fine Swiss watch and the Zeiss was sharp, but I always feared it was going to hit the ground. still have the Hassy manual by Wildi and a few other mementos.
Nice shots! 1600 and 1000F preceded the 500cm and are focal plane shutter cameras. Best advice is to avoid them. They are notorious about jamming and hard to fix, also no auto stop down! I didn’t know my black 501C was rare! I just love using it.
For Hasselblad owners : Always release the body and any lens/shutter that you own when storing them ! PLUS ! Remove the dark slides from the backs when storing those too. - High tension springs in the bodies & lenses and foam light-trap compression in the backs...
Fortunately my local camera shop has quite strong stash of PRO400H, and film scalping is not big here (most people doesn't even know that Fuji discontinued that film) so I am good for a moment.
I still have me some Fujifilm pro160, 400H, 800 in 135 and 120 format and Venus 800 in 135. And I still haven't shot those rolls, because I won't be able to shoot them ever again... I always preferred them over Kodak (though Kodak is extremely good). I should probably just shoot them though...
Nice athmosphere, personally I also like the Hasselblad and the Fuji 400H, though in the past I liked to use the 800Z 220, unfortunatly also discontinued.
Nothing quite like shooting a Hasselblad. I see you’re holding it like a Rolleiflex. The recommended way to operate a 500 series Hasselblad is to operate the shutter release with your left index finger. Your right hand working the lens and winder. Not surprised you’re tempted to keep it. You should try the 60mm f3.5 lens. Great for indoors while still compact.
Hey, you forgot about the 1600F and 1000F which was made BEFORE the 500C :) The 501 CM can have an issue with when you have fired the shutter and wind it up again, then the mirror can be a bit stucked, but if you tolt the camera and shake a bit then the mirror falls down in position, this is a known issue which can be fixed at a repair shop. Only the C-series Lenses have Compur shutter, later versions have Prontor which are much better :) The overall best lens for 500-series are the Macro-Planar 120mm 4.0 CF / CFi / CFE. The overall best Hasselblad Lenses are for the 200/2000 series cameras the Distagon 50mm 2.8 F and the Planar 110mm 2.0 F, I will also recommend the Mutar 2X and the Tele-Tessar 350mm 4.0 F :) Have a nice day.
Im saddened by the loss of Pro 400H. It is my favourite colour negative film. I've shot a lot of rolls and it never let me down. I truly hope Fuji brings it back like Acros. The stated reason of a raw material shortage like Acros may lead to its return. We can only hope.
Great video, but as the JAPAN camera hunter you should get a Bronica!! Bronica is underrated, the Bronica S2a is known as the Nipponblad. It was designed over 7 years and was based on the Hasselblad.

love pro400h. I've one roll left and I'm saving it for when I can afford a Mamiya TLR. Not using my last ever roll on the Lubitel.
A lovely, precision kit with my favorite work flow. I’m 70, and my heir will be blessed! Not happy with Fujifilm’s gradual abandonment of rollfilm!

Most likely it was the bubble era in the early 90's. There are a lot of abandoned hotels and businesses in the area.

I bet that is exactly what happens. Fuji will find other sources for the materials and there will be a PRO400Hii.

That's the mirror you are hearing. The leaf shutter itself is really quiet.
That is not the leaf or the mirror but the shutter curtain collapsing
