Something I feel the show doesn't get enough credit for is the amount of visual communication it's able to convey through the sheer amount of expressiveness. There's so much extra characterization shown through it. I've seen most people talking about the animation purely for the action scenes and the choreography which is still good, but there are so many intentional body language and expression choices that convey so much--it's ridiculous. Thank you for bringing it up. You're one of the only reviewers I've seen acknowledging both that and the circumstances production teams go through. I think what stuck out to me is the way they continually used so much expressiveness to show Nine's hesitation during all of his time as an antagonist. His reaction when he flips the world in episode two isn't "yes, I'll kill everyone to get what I want" he's actually shocked and worried seeing an innocent person about to fall but also knows that even with the power to alter reality it's not enough to stop Sonic. It put into focus that Nine isn't an evil, power-hungry edgelord trying to kill everyone, he's a hurt child who has never known any proper love or care and feels worse thinking the only one who's ever shown him love was projecting someone else onto him and feels his only recourse is to live in isolation. He needs Sonic to shut up because he can't bring himself to be vulnerable and admit that he was hurt and that Sonic still cares about him. We see all the pain the prism puts him through and the body language between him and Sonic when they have those slower moments are fantastic. I still think pacing is an issue, but also feel that many reviewers aren't catching these details and discussing them. I've actually been drafting my own review to post, so I wanted to see how others were talking about it. I feel yours is one of the best reviews I've seen yet. That said...I don't know how Sonadow shippers made it out of this show alive. I don't even really ship characters personally but wow. Sonic didn't need to give up his shard energy--he and Shadow clearly made more than enough rainbow energy throughout this show to make a prism for everyone.
Yes! I definitely agree about everything you said about nine! I actually had that moment he was scared for that innocent person. And then I just, forgot to talk about it smh. But yeah I think some people are being a little too harsh on the show, where it fails in some aspects I think it excels in others, especially in character animations! I loved all the expressions and subtle animations and I hope the team gets to do more sonic stuff going forward! Thanks for watching!
It’s so weird how little every one of these multiple versions of these characters interact with each other or comment on anything about them fighting robot versions of themselves , I don’t know why they limited themselves they had the chance to go all out and bonkers
Sonic is saved by his 3 girlfriends and his boyfriend shadow at the end 🤣
Omg yeah that was so funny 😂😂😂
