My favorite part of this scene is that they wrote it no differently than any normal date scene. You could play this date scene (the lines between Gary and Veronica) with two new actors (and a girl as Veronica) without the context of the episode and people could still make the argument both that she clearly was uncomfortable and that he could misconstrue it as flirting enough to contextually make sense to keep going (misguided but no more than normal for the average ass). My favorite part was the “yeah I could tell from the way you’re dressed” like a long sleeve full coverage dress is supposedly asking for it
Shawn's "I just wanted to look nice..." is so sad, and Rider played it really well. In that moment, it seemed to dawn on him how terrible and unfair this situation was.
He was wearing a skirt, I know from experience men get turned on by a skirt and “the benefits” from a skirt because they don’t have to deal with pants as pants harder to have their way with a girl
I don’t know the year of this episode, but a long-sleeved velvet mini dress was iconic in the 90s. I remember Blair on One Life to Live donning a similar hairstyle to Shawn and the same dress, but in red, as she started her legendary romance with Todd Manning. I can’t recall a tv show of the decade that didn’t dress their ladies in the classic velvet dresses for their date night episodes.
The problem with trendy fashion is that certain men believe women wear things to “trap a man.” So, fashion is never worn for herself, in their eyes. Therefore, why would Shawn put on the most fashionable outfit if he wasn’t seeking male attention for it?
Those kind of men think the same way about makeup. Their only logical conclusion for women to wear makeup is that they do so to attract men. If you try to tell a man that he’s wrong, well then obviously you’re lesbian! Lol. This scene played it off so well.
Plus no matter what they are wearing, it's not asking for it it's just good fashion/style, I should be able to wear what I want without people being overly creepy. It's one thing to show interest but another to not back off when a boundary is clearly set.

He and Shawn both used the phrase “play the game,” but each were talking about different things. Shawn was being more literal and talking about foosball, while the other guy was talking about playing for his affection. Teaching Shawn how to play foosball was just a way to touch his body.

So, it is kind of funny that you think the tight-fitting micro mini is comparable to the Amish. The micro mini is 7 hemlines above the full skirt. Seven. Micro mini is the shortest length.
Low risers were the forthcoming fashion craze. Girls had to wear thongs (whale tales) or repurposed tube tops just to hide their butt cracks from showing, (and that’s while standing up). While the low riser jeans may be full length pants, I certainly wouldn’t call them conservative attire either. One part of the body can be covered while the rest is exposed.

I lost count of how many men spread gossip and lies about me that I slept with them when I was in the army. They put me in harm's way because when men make false accusations, other men consider the woman a target and will harass her, assault her, and r*pe her.
I have been on this earth a long time and I have met so few men who behave with honour, dignity and self-respect. He had to make false accusations of things I never did or said. It's sick.

Even after surviving abuse, bullying, sexual assault and rape at the hands of men, here I am still believing that there might be a man who sees me and actually wants me. He's probably gay because he's relaxed, treats me with respect and is forthright and honest in his interactions. I can actually breathe around this man and he accepts my caring nature. He doesn't mock or belittle it or tries to start pointless arguments about everything under the sun. He actually LIKES women and sadly, many heterosexual men hate women. They like our bodies and what we can do for them, but they don't like us.

@@Smartass012 because it’s a good way to illustrate what actually happens, and having a hetero male (Shawn) who doesn’t want anything to go down other than dinner have another male (Garry) do what a lot of guys actually do it makes Shawn rightfully uncomfortable because Shawn didn’t want to be touched and even though he explicitly said that Garry basically ignored that and continued until Shawn punched him hard enough to get the point across, unfortunately as you may know in most cases men are physically stronger than women and women can’t just knock them out which means that unless they are lucky enough to be able to get the guy to leave her alone if she asks or has someone else who will help her she’s pretty much helpless and has to hope that nothing really bad happens

I think Corey and Topanga's first kiss was with Corey handcuffed, his hair looking ridiculously awful, and he saw Topanga as very strange; not yet cool or attractive. She kissed him then because she wanted it to come at a time when he felt like an outcast. It was the first kiss ever for both kids. Corey was quite uncomfortable with it but Topanga got a pass because she was a girl and kind of cute for her age. To be fair, she was showing love for Corey, not strictly trying to gratify her own lust, like the guy in this scene was trying to gratify his, but certainly a double standard exists. Women are allowed to make men uncomfortable far more by society than the reverse. Some women are predators and they are more likely to get away with it predatory behavior than men are, especially when the predatory man does not have a powerful position. Many powerful men get away with it too but the fact remains, they face more social stigma when discovered than women do, generally speaking anyway.

I love how in this episode they are acting like they learned something yet in season 7 ep5 shawn and cory eat all of Rachel's food, read her diary and go through her underwear drawer after they invited themselves over, and rachel walks out in a towel. They go in her underwear drawer to leave her a list of groceries that she should get them. They don't act apologetic in the slightest and topanga and angela are quick to brush it off and defend them. What a huge contrast.
The writers don't communicate
This episode was about respecting women in the sense of consent the episode your referring to is different because it doesn’t have anything to do with consent and I mean sexual consent. No they weren’t respecting Rachel in that episode but they were respectful sexually tho they did have girlfriends at the time but even so the episodes are two different lessons of two different TYPES of respect.
And also about what you said about Topanga and Angela they did brush it off but only in front of Rachel they gave Cory and Shawn a hard scolding afterwards and I think it’s important to note and include that. They didn’t lose their dignity or respect of themselves or other women I guess they just didn’t want to yell at the boys or possibly embarrass them in front of Rachel. And by the end of the episode they leaned not to sugarcoat certain things in front of others. I think that episode needs a rewatch.

@@iliveinsideyourhead7532 Never seen the movie "She's the man", huh. You should watch it and compare, if you do you'll see that it was still not as mentally taxing as it was to be female for a day. (It took multiple days for it to be even remotely as hard as it is for guys who only have to do it for a single day) I know arguing with a guy who is actively choosing to not use Google to learn is pointless, so I won't respond to any taunting but I do hope you check out that movie.
Edit: There was also an episode of "K.C. Undercover" that had the main character be a guy in a dorm, but that was more for general bullying issues rather than anything that has to do with couples or dating.

Anyway, there's a movie called "She's the man" that kinda has a girl in love with the "guy" and he's not interested (because "he's" just a girl being her brother for a while and not actually a guy) but I don't think they had any sexual harassment going on, if they did then I don't remember since I saw that movie years ago. If you respond with taunts or sexist comments I'm not gonna bother with arguing, just judging from your name and profile picture I already know it'll be pointless. Enjoy the movie.

I'd like to take a minute to appeciate the writer's on this and the show runners who put in the effort that 15 years later a lot of shows still struggle with. Not only did they do a fantastic job portraying how this plays out, the detail of the type of guy who says "I'll have my usual" right after aknowledging the person taking their order couldn't possibly know what that is, is so on brand for this guy.
