Would You Drive a Concrete Mixer truck?

  • Hey guys, I’d love to address some things,
    1. I wouldn’t wear a seatbelt because it would get in the way of my driving since I sit at the edge of my seat, but after reading the comments regarding this topic on my last video, I started putting my seatbelt on because it’s the laaaaaaw, but not only that, I realized I need to be a better influence to those watching my videos so thank you for those who left a comment, it opened my eyes for the better.
    2. In my job, mistakes are always being made, I think I can say this is the case with any job, so please be patient with me as I’m learning as I go. I’m lucky to be in the field I’m in as I feel I’m learning things that others my age wouldn’t learn until years for now, so I’m always analyzing and reflecting from every mistake made, big or small.
    And I very much value the comments you guys leave me, I learn alot from your own experiences so thank you to those who have always left a comment!
    That being said, this video and next weeks video contain clips of me not wearing a seatbelt but Ive changed that as of this Monday back at work after reading comments.
    also, ive decided on a Gopro since it will be easier to still bring you guys content and as well allow me to do my job correctly.
    Thank you guys again for always tuning in… say “BANANA 🍌” in the comments if you read this far, I want to see if people do read the descriptions, have a great weekend!

    I am a retired concrete driver out of Chicago. I drove for 34 years. If there’s anything I could help you with is safety is the most important part of your job I have tinnitus because when I first started, I did not wear hearing protection and there’s ringing in my ears that will never go away, you need that seatbelt. It is very important it will save your life. Never go near a pump without safety glasses on I don’t want to sound like a old guy but the longer you drive you’ll see the most important thing is to take care of yourself, I really enjoy your videos

      Dang man.. I am working like a normal guy... Worked all my life.. since age 15 in hard labor... And of course I didn't think at the time... I just thought like a average joe... This great looking female just popped up on my page.. seem her video some time ago think I was going to watch it.. but just left it... So from your honest opinion.. as of now I pretty much got everything settled... But I plan to just invest into houses rent them and let that do it's wom thing for the long run... I have heard many many things.... I've seen opportunities and left them.. wanted to do barbering but I see it's just so much competition... Another is painting cars want to learn that.. but I see it does take time and perfection.. but that is a 100 work house 24/7.. just build a house for paint and so on.. does not matter if it's raining at your own pace and time.. anywho I worked in construction for a longggggg time.. now am 23 turning 24 this July.... Want a stable job where I can say man I am super happy driving here enjoy my day to day job.. and be someone in life opportunities are endless..

Speed, haste and hurry have no place in this job. Because that's where most mistakes happen. I speak to you from experience, I have been on the road in over 35 countries and have covered almost 5,000,000 kilometers in all my time. By the way, you're doing a great job, a man's job so to speak, and you don't have to hide behind this male profession. One more request to you: be careful when handling the concrete and its additives, I actually come from the construction industry, have a bricklaying and concrete construction apprenticeship behind me and later switched to the truck driving profession. Cement and its additives can sometimes trigger allergies in people if these substances come into contact with bare skin. You should know that the skin is the largest respiratory organ, not the lungs as most people assume. For this reason alone, take precautions to avoid becoming ill at some point. Greetings from beautiful Upper Franconia in Bavaria.

    Them mixer trucks have an extremely high center of gravity and are more prone to rollovers, even so more than 18 wheelers from what I’ve heard and seen! Much respect to you for doing such a job!

    • @drcornelius8275
      @drcornelius8275 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      And add the rotation and speed of the drum.... it can actually make the truck even more prone to a rollover when cornering

    • @TxMx214
      @TxMx214 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s actually not, it’s pretty safe from what I’ve heard…that’s why they drive around with the drum turning so that the center of gravity remains as low as possible meaning the concrete constantly mixing by the drum spinning won’t keep it from sticking to a particular side of the drum and cause nueve weight. So therefore by spinning the weight is distributed evenly as possible.

    • @orbis7770
      @orbis7770 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@TxMx214 That's not true. Not safe at all unless you are driving empty with no load.
      Higher Slump concrete will be pulled up the side of the drum by the fins
      as they rotate, increasing the forces to one side of the truck. Being
      more fluid in nature, it will also react quickly to changes such as sudden
      braking or sharp turns on a roadway.
      Lower Slump concrete is thicker in nature and will be pulled farther up the
      side of the drum by the fins, thus significantly increasing the forces to one
      side of the truck.

      Yeah I've driven a big tanker trailer and now drive a ready mixer and I can confidently say I felt way safer in the 53 ft tractor trailer. Not that I'm scared driving a mixer it's easy to get used to and feel for it, but it's definitely less stable than the tractor trailers.. plus with the boosters down, those pop and yall can easily roll, I heard stories of a girl she was 19 and her booster tire was low but went for one more load and never made it home.. truckers are the blood cells of the country. Tbh you straight up do drive for yourself and everyone else on the road, you don't know what that means unless you're a trucker, people drive way more stupid around trucks than other cars

    Like you she complained the seat and belt makes it hard for her.
    I schooled her of the importance.
    I couple years ago her co-worker complained the same then one day she rolled the dozer off a hill.
    Had she had on her seat belt, the ROPS (Roll-over protective structure) would have saved her.
    She left behind three children under the age of 10 yr's old.
    That was a heads up for my wife to wear her seatbelt.

    I'll usually have drivers rip the fiber bag slightly before throwing in to make sure there isn't any balling issues. However, those micro fibers usually won't have any issues unless the slump is above 7" or so or you have a sand or small aggregate mix. Then you have to worry about the bag not breaking open fully when there isn't enough friction and shear to break apart. The bag will also want to "float" more in the concrete. Testing out a new fiber dispenser now at one of my plants, hopefully it will shave some time and keep drivers off the ladder for safer operations. Cheers!

    No way, no how. Too crazy on the roads these days. Drove on a Class B(transit and bobtails). Was never a career, just a living , along with some warehouse and construction labor, obtaining a Material Handling Equipment certification. The career was 10 years inside of 20 as a railroader where I earned my Locomotive Engineer Certification. Good luck to 'ya and stay safe!

    When you were spraying it down there with water there actually the mixer blades that makes the concrete mix and divide it and makes it so those would be your mixer blades keep the concrete whirling through the mixer blades FYI 🎉 good job!

    Love the content as it's very relatable(fellow mixer driver). Getting loaded early so you can wash your truck seems a bit counter intuitive. As you know concrete loads are time sensitive. Letting that concrete sit in your drum is only hindering the contractors you are delivering to. Why not wash on your truck first, and then get loaded when it's time to hit the road? At my plant we only wash on our trucks if we are empty, and have some free time. Once we get loaded it's all business/delivery time. New to your channel, but loving the content. Have a good day! Keep smiling 😁

    To answer your question about what do you call the spiral steel inside the drum? Those are called blades, mixing blades, or drum blades. They are a type of auger blade. Auger blades are mostly found inside pipes at grain silos, where they lift grain from a lower elevation, to a higher elevation or can even be used like a conveyor belt, moving grain type material from point A to B.

    I drove a front dump mixer in the Atlanta area for about 6 or 7 years. Loved the job and the big offroad trucks but hated the hurry up and wait aspects. Loved going off road and having to spin the drum to move the mud and shift the weight for traction. Just couldn't take the sitting doing absolutely nothing as I'm a go go go kind of person.
