  • In this episode of my 2002 BMW E46 M3 restoration journey, I provide an overview of the work completed so far and continue tackling issues to make this car road legal. This E46 M3, with 160,000 miles and a Category N write-off history, has come a long way, but there's still plenty to do to get it back on the road.
I start by addressing the engine management light that appeared at the end of the previous episode, before replacing the incorrect wishbones. The ones I originally fitted were for a standard E46, but what I needed were the proper M3 wishbones for this car.
In one of the earlier episodes, I fitted the front bumper, but two key issues remained: the bracket that connects the bumper to the underarch was coming off, and the gaps between the bumper and the headlights didn’t look right. In this episode, I tackle both problems using creative DIY methods to improve the fitment and appearance.
Another front-end issue was the temperature sensor wiring, which had been ripped off. As a result, the car thought it was -40°C outside-a problem that definitely needed fixing to restore proper functionality.
Finally, I move on to a snapped bolt that holds the V-brace to the rear subframe, a challenge I’ve been meaning to address. Unfortunately, this repair doesn’t go as planned, adding another layer of complexity to this ambitious restoration.
Just as I thought I was ready for the MOT inspection, an unexpected issue arose, making this E46 M3 project even more challenging.
