He wasn't sure if he'd ever wrestle again. He returned finally after about a year, and not even a year after that, he went on to be a main event star and have a hall of fame career. So I disagree with Simon here. I think the lyrics do work with Edge being a heel. By themselves, the lyrics are about a person who, due to newfound clarity, has resolved to leave their past mistakes and hardships and bitterness behind and make a new life for themselves. It is very positive, which one would think would make it great for a face. Be positive, always look forward, every day is a second chance, etc. But Edge being a heel brings shading and nuance to this otherwise simple picture. Instead of clarity and hope, Edge’s nasty persona turns the impetus of this person’s drive into spite and anger. People told me I couldn’t do it, and I had to fight for everything I have. I had to do terrible things just to get where I am, and fuck you if you don’t like it. I see now that this is who I am, and it’s who I’m gonna stay. Edge’s persona brings the depth that these lyrics lack on their own.
Metalingus was a working title during production of One Day Remains they thought it was a cool name so they just kept it haha no meaning to the song title
James Rodolfo Mark Tremonti said that he came up with the name Metalingus as a joke lmao. He literally mixed the word cunnilingus 😏with metal so basically the word Metalingus means oral simulation of metal 😂
Edge debuted this theme around his heel turn in 2004 when he became frustrated in the midcard and became obsessed with the World Heavyweight Championship. The music fit perfectly with his gimmick in 04-05. Probably should’ve changed it around 08
