1:29 as an aside, Shinjuku Mad is an obscure Bandcamp punk rock band made of up two people, including Patrick Driscoll, a.k.a. Blank Banshee.
I started to get into vaporwave recently, especially future funk (which I think most of these songs are). I like how these old songs are turned into more modern "danceable" tunes. Of course, it sometimes lacks creativity but they are still fun to listen to. So I just enjoy the music the way it is. That's what music is all about, don't you think?
Oh, they are (fun to listen to)! The problem is that most times they don't credit the original artist. But I agree with you, they're definitely very danceable
blank banshee seems to be the only one who puts effort into his work instead of just slowing down songs
Iacon not only slows down songs, but adds his own futuristic MIDI drumming to it.
there are thousands of artists in this genre, and while I do agree a lot put little effort, there are also a lot of work put into some
plasticlouds I agree 100%
I admit, the seemingly lack of difficulty involved in the genre is partly why I want to try it out myself XD
A lot of Moe Shop's songs take a lot of effort too
That Moe Shop track is a lot better than it has the right to be.

Guys just wanna let you all know this was commented when I was eleven. Everything I did and said back then was basically satire. The closest thing to this I have on my channel is the 2019-2020 Vaporwave videos. But that was when I was more experimental. Just sayin

It's weird, Mariya Takeuchi it's actually the simbol of City Pop, but there's no much good Vaporwave or Future Funk of her songs
There's "PLASTIC" by Iacon, which sample's Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love".
Now that I've seen moe shops samples, I sort of see they don't do too much. Maybe adding a few sound effects and the speed, but other than that it's pretty dull. (But still really good music!)

What was changed? Literally nothing. Maybe an ever so slight pitch change.
A lot more than the pitch is changed. the drums are added in and the entire track is structurally different. As opposed to dropping the tempo and adding reverb.

Vapor wave on paper seems like a blatant copy. Until you realize that fair use allows this as long as it is transformative.

What makes me sad about a lot of vaporwave artists is that at one point or another (maybe even the majority of their time) they simply EQ, overcompress, and maybe reverb or pitch up/down the original songs. Some of the biggest offenders are:
1. Macross 82-99 (especially with Remember Summer Days, a blatant overcompress+EQ)
2. ADRIANWAVE
3. SUBWAYS (left a bitter taste in my mouth with their edit of Magic Waves)
4. YUNG BAE (give them some credit for his fantastic collabs with Flamingosis)
5. Moe Shop (people have been noticing it A LOT)
6. Saint Pepsi (again, the rest of the time he plays around more and has more originality)
You gotta give them _some_ credit, though. Many times they make the music sound a bit better, and they they have introduced many people (myself included) to amazing 80's j-citypop and funk in general. Also it makes you appreciate the originals more especially when the remixes are garbage lol
One thing though, for those low, effort edits of songs, they honestly don't deserve to be making that much money off of them. But then again I also can't produce very well, so take everything I just said with a grain of salt lol.
