    This is a real Milwaukee 2648 sander review. Unlike the others that take out from the box try it for few seconds and speak wonders about a product and collect money from the company. Thanks for the info.

    The problem is you used it to sand drywall and the dust has clogged the bearings. I bought this sander 2nd hand with the same exact problem. Open the unit up blow all the dust out add a few drops of mineral oil on the bearings and you're good to go.

    I have this same sander for a month or so and it is doing the same thing and I have an electric Milwaukee sander 6034-21 that I've had for a year or so started doing the same thing. So aggravating and I am in the middle of a cabinet job. Milwaukee needs to address this issue. Too many people are having the same problem

    My Sander spins full blast like yours, only when placed under load, the sander stops completely.
    I bought it in January, but actual operation time was only around 10-15 hours. I haven't talked with customer service yet.
    I'm looking to fix it at home. Seems like there are a couple commenters that have some solutions. Thanks for those, and thanks for the video.
    You're right, not a lot of info regarding this issue online. I'm sure Milwaukee will correct the issue in later models.

      Never fixed mine. Fixed it enough to run it on full speed, and apply light pressure to the work piece.
      If I apply too much, the sander shuts down. So, I can use it for rough sanding. That's all. I use a 6" sanding disc, just oversized so I can skim sand using the outer edge.

    In my case, after using the product for a few months, I dropped it once, and then the pad started rotating too easily. Even when I stopped it, it kept rotating for a while. The original product has a brake. So, I disassembled and reassembled it, but it didn’t fix the issue. Upon further thought, I realized that the parts were not held tightly enough. When I tightened the screws on the main body by hand, it worked perfectly, just like when it was new. In my opinion, the bottom pad of the sander needs to be tightened so that there is no space.

    Your bushing has went bad and needs to be replaced. It lost its orbiting and now has become a grinder. This has happened to me on several orbiting tools. The bushing is under the sanding pad. Cheap fix, but this shouldn't of happened so soon.

    Mine is the $87 Milwaukee orbital sander, and I was using it on my table top, first project ever, and then it started doing this, and ruined my table, I had to redo the whole thing from a nearly finished state. Second project, a picnic table top, I turned the sander off to talk to my daughter, and when I tried get back to work, it wouldn't turn back on at all. Haven't been able to finish my project for three days now.

I have a tendency to trip on the cable, pull it off the bench...it hits the floor, bends the shaft and its toast...$20 sander or $400 sander...they all break...easier to throw the $20 model in the trash....I spend my money on quality sanding products (3M,etc.)

  • @rauldelgadillo8447

    I remember dropping mine and noticed that it started spinning like that. Theyre not supposed to turn into grinders. I took it to homedepot and guy immediately said i was using it wrong and should start it while on surface. I told him that its still not supposed to become a grinder that wants to walk accross the surface. He said hell take a took. He replaced the bearing. When i picked it up, still a grinder. Guy said he did everything you could do.
    Glad im not crazy, they definitely shouldnt be doing that. I notice a good unit doesnt spin as easily and is stiffer than a bad unit.

    Had same issue with mine I returned the first one after it failed within a week. The second lasted 2 days. After reading these comments I took it apart and blew it out with my compressed air hose and now it’s working normally again. For anyone reading this try blowing it out with a compressor first through the vents and if that doesn’t work disassemble and give it a thorough shot. Pretty disappointing . My old dewalt lasted a few years. This unit clearly isn’t up to the more industrial applications. Too bad I really like the dust collection adaptor,. It works much better than dewalts dust extraction attachment.

    I had the exact same problem. You need to replace the brake, it wears out over time and will gouge the work piece. It is not covered under warranty and is considered a consumable. Just replaced mine and it works like new.

    Never start an R.A.B off the sanding surface. Problem or not, they will always ruin your material if you try to put them on the surface while already running.

    • @rauldelgadillo8447
      @rauldelgadillo8447 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old comment but the video is still correct in that its not supposed to turn into a grinder. The sander will start to want to walk accross your surface versus staying in its relative location.

    • @jmoe6402
      @jmoe6402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      DA air orbital sanders will do this as well. Remote climber is right. I build cabinets for a living and, I never start my sander until it is in contact with the material you are sanding. Sheetrock dust is also really fine and it will get into the bearings and gum it up as well. Maybe that’s what’s causing this. (Just trying to be helpful. ) I don’t have this sander but I plan on getting one soon.

    • @rauldelgadillo8447
      @rauldelgadillo8447 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmoe6402 the issue with this one in particular is the break dampening method are just little tabs of plastic running against the main rotating pad. Thats it. When those wear down theres nothing slowing down the spin so it just turns into a grinder. Youll see it immediately when you remove the four screws in the bottom. The black plastic mold around the main pad has the little plastic tabs molded into it and it wears down fairly fast.

    Having the same issue with my corded Milwaukee palm sander, it started doing this thing where it would bite the wood very aggressively when it first touches it, then it winds down to normal. I have to smoothly and slowly float it over the wood so it gradually slows down to normal speed. Very annoying.

    • @seanedyson
      @seanedyson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryanbahling2877 always have to have whatever paper pad you are using compressed on whatever surface you are sanding buffing or it will spin out of control. It has an internal clutch. Same reason if you compress too hard it won’t spin at all

  • @charlschuck6

    3years wow there’s a break pad what wears out most orbital systems have these also many have said depending on how user uses it and pushes on the machine the break tends to have less time of usage . My Milwaukee corded ROS did this after a couple years use. Replaced it and new one is working fine. There is a break inside or some kind of clutch that stops this rotation. I had a Rigid that did the same thing... so, both brands started making a tink sound inside and eventually stopped working all together at the same time the rotation limiter thing broke. they still work fine even with high speed rotation, just need to brake it manually after stopping unit or making sure you start on your wood surface. It is a pain!

    I've replaced the pad/brake pad and sander has start spinning again. Pretty rubbish really, and not it's not always practical to switch the sander off before you remove it from or bring back onto your work surface. Other than this issue, great sander but this problem turns it in a useless piece of junk. Be great if Milwaukee could put out a permanent fix for this issue. Will be voting with my wallet and heading over to either Festool, Dewalt or Makita.

    Sorry everyone, didn’t expect any real response to this. I also had a gnarly back injury right after I posted this had surgery a few months ago feeling better now. I got the sander replaced again under warranty and took a video of how it operated out of the box and the third one failed the same way as well. I understand how to use a sander but the way it operates now if I lift it from the surface to, say move to another side of a bird house, it spins up like crazy and damn near rips from my hand. This is obviously a very common issue that needs to be addressed
