  • Germinate apple seeds in 2 days | Germinate apple seeds without putting in refrigerator Philippines
    Hello fellow growers! Today, I will share this video on how I germinate apple seeds the easiest way without putting the seeds in the refrigerator. I made this experiment because I didn't have a fridge in our rented place. (It's pandemic, I can't go out)
    I was so happy that the apple seeds germinated even without placing them in the fridge.
    Because I saw some videos germinating apple seeds in the Philippines, all of them they placed the seeds in the fridge.
    Now, I know that it's possible to germinate apple seeds here in Philippines without fridge! :)
    (Gardening keeps me sane during this time of pandemic, thank you God)
    Thanks for watching!

    Me and my granddaughter planted 3 seeds from her apple randomly after her eating it. She watered them daily and now she has 3 trees started. She is 4 and very excited 😆

    I came across your video while in home isolation because my two kids, my wife and I were tested positive for covid-19. Strangely enough, keeping aside my fascination for apple trees, your video just gave me that boost I've needed recently. Thanks a lot.
    So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Amen.
    Best regards from India

    All I hear people around me in the USA say is: "Do not grow an apple tree from a seed. Buy a grafted tree instead!" But buying a tree can be expensive.
    Seeds, however, cost nothing. They are free with purchase of an apple! The only real investment I see here is a few paper towels. THAT is affordable.
    Your quick germination method is far more impressive than using a fridge, which is what the other videos I saw did.
    I think I will give this a try.

    • @sethphil6009
      @sethphil6009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly..im so fed up from ppl saying buy a graft...but where's the fun in that?😂

    • @joshuatheregularguy8974
      @joshuatheregularguy8974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@sethphil6009 Yeah, exactly. There is no fun. No excitement. Just boring old reliability. Now, there is something to be said for knowing what you'll get, and I can respect that. But why not TRY? I mean, there's zero harm in it and my only investment was some potting soil that I was going to buy for tomato starts anyway.
      I didn't follow the video instructions exactly. Just popped seeds in a damp paper towel, and zipped them in a bag with a label. And I did label them too, because I must have tried 15-20 different kind of apples and pears since I made my comment, and I saved ALL the seeds out of each variety. Now I have 25 little plants going in the other room from 11 different kinds of apples + 1 "Asian apple pear"! I'm super jazzed about them! 😂
      Soon as frost danger has passed for my area I'll be hauling them out to my Mom's house and planting them around the 15-acre former-pasture area behind her house. Hopefully one of them has the proper parentage to make something good, or at least not wholly inedible. And if it turns out they DO suck, meh, I got a chainsaw.

      I've been reading up a bit and the reason why grafts are preferred because the trees grown from seeds may or may not produce fruit, because that will depend a lot on the genetics of the seed (along with other factors of course). Grafts from trees that have produced fruits most definitely bear fruits. I'm not an expert, but just saying what I've been reading up :) good luck!

    Today is Wed May 18 2022. I decided Sunday 5/15/2022 to purchase 3 "seeded" fruits for a basic test. I purchased 1 each of a lime, lemon, and Gala apple from our local "K" store. We attempted to harvest seeds from all 3 fruits. The lime had no seeds so going forward; we only had 2 seeded fruits. We took 10 seeds from each of the 2 remaining fruits. For the Lemon we did "husk" the seeds, for the apple just collected from the fruit. We rubbed the seeds to "dry" them on a paper towel, put them on a clean paper towel and immediately (within 10 minutes) wet the paper towel, put in a "Z" bag, and put them in a dark place. (for us the "junk" drawer). I have a note on fridge to check them this coming Sunday 5/22/2022; but I am impatient (as most of us are). So THREE days into germination we have 2 Apple (Gala Variety) seeds already showing 1/4-1/2 in roots! I was expecting 1-2 weeks for any sign! The lemon has sign on 1 seed. Given we did this on a whim and used the basic parameters for citrus (grabbed an apple just for SNG). The apple from the store is performing well above expectation. We have planned to pot our seeds at the 2 week mark (for all seeds to ensure fairness across plants) Again the apple was a fluke add on. But seems to be easier than any tutorial I have seen so far!

    I did this method.. my little seedling is growing like a weed.. But , how do I take care of it in between all this..?? It’s about a 1/2 inch tall, I just don’t want the little tree to die.. how do I keep it growing?? Do you have a grow light ??

    • @WorthwhileHobbies
      @WorthwhileHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Dear. I dont have a grow light. I just put my apple seedlings in our terrace and balcony together with my other vegetable seedlings. its shaded by other vegie seedlings.. it just grows well. Im not an expert however in my experience growing apple seedligs, the most common problem is root rot and damping off because of fungi infection, because of over watering of seedlings...avoid over watering the seedlings, you can use sprayer. If you can visit an agri supply store, you can purchase a fungicide, the one that prevents damping off...then just follow the instruction on the label on how to apply the fungicide. . Also you can use soil less medium as your growing medium or cocodust or cocopeat or cocopeat with vermicast, to prevent fungi infection. This video was made during the pandemic lockdown, thats why I just used garden soil..I just had limited materials to use that time coz we cant go out... But now, I tried using cocopeat with vermicast as my starting medium, and it grows well. hope it will work for you as well. happy gardening!

    I left 2 apple seeds in the fridge for 2 weeks and only one sprouted. It sits outside In a blue pot in the backyard with the most sun. It's been near a month since I planted it, but I'm worried if giving it half a cup of water is damaging it, because other people's germinated apple seeds have alr sprouted in 12-15 days, I just have to wait 7 more days and see if there's any major difference.
