Tom, I never normally comment but I had to on this video as I was your opponent in the first round! The shot of adrenaline when I saw who I was up against was intense… Well played, I panicked a bit with Hong Kong but it was a good game up to then - hopefully I’ll run into you again sometime for a rematch. Love your videos, geoguessr or otherwise!
Dude, I used to watch your stuff many many years ago, when I was much younger. You really influenced a bit of my childhood dude. Quite nostalgic to be honest. Great to see you still around!
Tom 1 year ago: this shade of tree only grows on this coast in Sweden, I’ve narrowed the guess to within 50 meters Tom now: *staring at a sign that says Podgorica* I haven’t a clue
I gotta say this seems like the most fun you've had with this game for a while. These are excellent to watch as well. Faster paced with more rounds per video. Thanks for uploading!
A little help for you Tom. At 13:30 for the Denmark round: yellow license plates mean the vehicle is for work use ONLY, a license plate with 1/4 of it yellow in the left means it can be used for work and leisure (or something, don't entirely know) and a fully white means normal. So if you find a vehicle that looks like a vehicle used for work (like the van in the round) and it's yellow, chances are it's Denmark
Yeah the half yellow half white (“papegøjeplade”) means that it is a car thats owned by a company, but also allowed for private use. Cars with any yellow on the plate has to have their back seats removed.
That tip is amazing!! thanks man! unfortunately, I think I had less than 10 rounds in denmark.... in 2 years of geoguessr. I don't know why, but at least for me it's usually super super rare.
The thing about duels is that there's also a bunch of meta gimmicks (like the rift in the sky which always means you're in Senegal etc.) so even if you're good at observing surrounding and identifying where you are, someone in the higher up ranks might have that meta info unlocked for any specific location and be able to insta-guess much faster too.
That is true to any hobby though, isn't it? If you're a casual football player, you can have fun and be good through your own instincts. At higher, extremely competitive games (such as against higher rank Geoguessr players), you'll face adversaries who have tweaked their lifestyle to "meta" their performance (eating specific foods to increase specific bodily reactions; stretching specific muscles to increase performance at specific moments, etc). Not like you can't have fun without being meta - or being good, for that matter - just that if you wanna squeeze that 10% of increased performance, you gotta meta that shit.
@@rayres1074 I think the difference here is that the "meta gimmicks" he is referring to doesn't relate to the intended point of the game, which is guessing as close as possible, whereas the "meta" in football (eating specific foods to increase specific bodily reactions; stretching specific muscles to increase performance at specific moments, etc), is still related to the sport, as it is about physically and athletic prowess.
@@rayres1074 I mean I get your point but that's not a good example, as it isn't much more than preparing better for your games, just like you can study things like poles and bollards for Geoguessr. But yes, there are meta strategies in football (and every other sport for that matter), such as when sometimes players get intentionally physical in order to neutralize a good enemy player, or things of this sort.
@@bloxxerhunt1566 In real life sports there are less instances of such "meta gimmicks", but on e-sports they're pretty common. Think about pixel perfect placement, frame perfect movements in speedrun, use of glitches to minmax and exploit the game, etc. I guess it all depends on the ultimate objective - and in the duel's case, it is to defeat your enemy, which works better when you're excruciatingly fast, and technically you're still within the boundaries of the game. But yeah real life sports is a bad example, although one could argue that perfecting the biomechanics, hypertrophy, strength and mobility gaining to ultra-specific levels as it's often the case in cutthroat competitive sports is somewhat "meta" as well, considering you're getting better at something that transcends the sport.
A small tip that the last guy should've paid attention to: If you're at full HP, and the other guy isn't, it's in your best interest to instantly guess anywhere on the map. You won't get any points (no healing but you're at full HP) but it will immediately put a timer and lower the other player's chances of getting a lot of healing.
tom's commentary kept making me laugh out loud in this one... the stuff about the horse... "is this guy my long-lost twin brother?!"... this format is sooo much fun, i love playing it, and watching you play it is so much fun, too! brilliant!!
I love your "competitive" geoguessr content, keep it coming! Also, you're great, yes, but I actually like that you don't get the locations 100% spot on or immediately all the time. Keeps it entertaining, not knowing if you'll win or not. Watching players in the top 20 of the world that guess correctly every location NMPZ within 5 seconds gets pretty boring, there's no suspense, they're too good for content
I think it's more important to vote quickly if you know more or less where it is instead of trying to find the exact street etc. That's time wasted where you are not putting the pressure on him and the result is a difference of only a couple points. I'm especially talking about the Iceland round, the guy had it spot on, you however lost only 20
Exactly! After identifying the location as Francistown, Botswana Tom then wasted precious seconds trying to guess which side of the city he was on! Denying the opponents that extra 5 or 10 seconds is much more valuable than fine-tuning your guess.
Mate, don't ever doubt yourself. No matter how rusty you think you may be, you're the goat in my and many peoples eyes! Been here for a while and always love the content, especially the new modes!

14:00 there's something about the skylines of southern South Africa in GeoGuessr that really gives it away. I don't know if it is an effect of the camera used in South Africa, or if it is the sky itself (I've never been there), but you can sometimes see it in other high latitude areas too, like the Faroe Islands or southern Patagonia or even Lesotho. It's really cool.

Yea they need to lock your screen and not allow you to tab out or you forfeit. I knew right away something was fishy with how accurate that kid was. It’s in every game these days, no one is legit and most people cheat for exploit to win.
13:32 in Denmark the lorries and vans (basically the commercial use vehicles) have yellow plates, while the normal cars have white ones :) anyway excellent video as always, Tom!
7:22 This sign bottom right showed "Podgorica"... Now I don't know anything about topography but I do know all capital cities of every EU country. So I was kinda hyped when I saw that and knew where it was

I'm rank 920 and your 2nd opponent was 100% a cheater. I went to the location of the South Africa round @ 14:31 and there was a sign with the nearby town name on it just down the road. Yet somehow when there's no street signs he guesses Colombia on the most obvious Brazil I've ever seen. Plenty of them about unfortunately lol.
@@mike.og13 The red soil, rurality, road quality, lack of trees and just general appearance makes southern Brazil one of those areas that's almost instantly identifiable by an experienced player
The opponent got his signs mixed up. He saw the black back and thought it was the Columbian cross. Both those countries have the clue but he got them switched.
I just want to say to you Tom that you’re good enough at geoguesser to make your videos fun to watch and your not too good to the point we’re all lost. I love hearing you work things out loud and the thought process behind it. Also please start using the space bar to make guesses. Thanks
Nothing better than binging a sesh of GeoGuessr and then seeing that Tom has uploaded a GeoGuessr video just after you finish, getting me through Covid isolation!
So cool to see Romania often on these duels. It's quite funny, as a Romanian, to see you struggle with the language. Cheers! To be fair, without the text I wouldn't even know I am in my own country
I’m sure you’ve given it some thought already, but I think you could grow a big audience of live viewers either on TH-cam live or twitch. Some of the biggest twitch streamers in the world play quite a bit of Geoguessr and it is loved by their communities.
Ooh another one so soon? What a treat! This is definitely my new favorite GW content right after the geodetective episodes! It's almost as thrilling to watch as missions, only with much less anxiety xD The round with Dan was especially entertaining (totally not because of the swearing haha). Looking forward to the next one!
When you're full health on the healing round you should make a guess anywhere as quick as you can to give your opponent as little time as possible to get a good heal.
‘I’m so bad at this, so out of practice, I’m going to loose right here, I don’t know what I’m doing...’ *all while completely destroying the competition*
Yeah that second guy was definitely cheating. There’s no way you can get 4.9k consistently and then guess colombia for brazil like that just doesn’t happen. It also makes sense for him to go out on russia because he could not find latin script to use to look up where he was.
Tom's ability to guess a country: level 99 Tom's ability to say the country out loud that he is thinking of: 83 xp until level 2 Funny to have back to back videos where he says the name of a country and I'm like "oh fuck Tom that's not it". But then he gets to the map and chooses the correct one. Said Philippines here but went Indonesia(as he should have) and did the same thing last video.
The duels are even better than Battle Royale. Cheers, Tom!

This is very enjoyable to watch with the tense music. Dropping those frustrated F bombs was hilarious.
If it’s a small country and you know it, you should guess immediately!. Don’t give them a chance to catch up by finding something.
Duels are so fun to watch. Thank you Tom, we would love to see your journey on the leaderboards
Your normal games are fun to watch, but these are AWESOME to watch. I haven’t felt this entertained by a TH-cam video in a while
It was great playing you Tom, if you ever want a rematch let me know :)
Came for the missions, but I enjoy the GEoguessr stuff. The duels add something, make it a little more engaging. Good on ya Tom, keep it up!
Do more of these, please!👏🏻👏🏻
These are amazing, proper gripping! Please don't stop these.
Unfortunetly in some of these matches people cheat. So if you wonder why they get so close sometimes they just google a sign and get really close.
Lol I thought I was the only one petty enough to do it. It’s not the most big-brain strat ever, but it’s pretty petty
Can’t wait for the top 5 episodes, sound like a blast. Duels are great! More please!
‘I’m so bad at this, so out of practice, I’m going to loose right here, I don’t know what I’m doing...’
*all while completely destroying the competition*
I bloody love these, please do them whenever you have free time! They’re so addictive
Yeah that second guy was definitely cheating. There’s no way you can get 4.9k consistently and then guess colombia for brazil like that just doesn’t happen. It also makes sense for him to go out on russia because he could not find latin script to use to look up where he was.
They need to implement a anti-cheat where if you leave the window you just auto lose
@@JohnnyStambino they really should that would make the game so much more enjoyable I’d rather not go against google you know
@@JohnnyStambino But they still can use another device, like a cell phone etc.
These classic geoguessr videos are gold.
Tom's ability to guess a country: level 99
Tom's ability to say the country out loud that he is thinking of: 83 xp until level 2
Funny to have back to back videos where he says the name of a country and I'm like "oh fuck Tom that's not it". But then he gets to the map and chooses the correct one. Said Philippines here but went Indonesia(as he should have) and did the same thing last video.
Need more of this content insane 2 videos had a ton of fun watching
