In 2014 Putin agreed to freeze the conflict when his army actually could have reached Odessa and Kiev in a couple of weeks (the Ukrainian army was collapsing when the Russians and their supporters ageeed to a ceasefire). That gave tge West and Ukraine time to build an effective military. I doubt that Putin will make the same mistake again and freeze the conflict until Ukraine is ready for a third war.

And it's never enough...instead of being held responsible for all of the tax $ the government wastes their solution is always "we need more" and blame corporations and the rich for not giving them enough as if them having more money would solve anything. Ironically, many of those Democrats who vocally advocate everyone "paying their fair share" also accept donations from many of the same lobbyists and donors that contribute to Republicans so no matter what they're owed favors by politicians in office...The US is just as corrupt as most other notably corrupt countries but we just call it lobbying...

I like your podcast. But I have to disagree with your point about Russia giving up any territories in return for Ukraine not joining nato. Russia has learned over past few decades that those agreements mean nothing. In my opinion Russia will take as much territory as it could in order to minimize future threat. Even if Ukraine loses this war, there is no guarantee that they will not try to take back territory few years later. So, the logic is quite simple: big Ukraine big threat, small Ukraine small threat. It’s not about who’s right or wrong, it’s just the reality

Following the SMO in February 2022, the Russians and Ukrainians signed a deal in Istanbul that guaranteed Ukrainian independence and neutrality. As a sign of goodwill the Russians withdrew from much of the territory that they had captured. Boris Johnson flew to Kiev and stopped the deal. On 15 June 2024 the New York Times published extensive extracts from the deal including: "The Guarantor States and Ukraine agree that in the event of aggression, any armed attack on Ukraine or any military operation against Ukraine, each of the Guarantor States, after urgent and immediate consultations between them will provide assistance to Ukraine, as a permanently neutral state under attack ... ". It looks like that after two years of massive losses Ukraine will end up- with a worse deal than it could have had in 2022.

Inflation is only partly due to down-chain cost increases, with the bulk of it due to profit-seeking. Rent is another area where cost increases to renters are not linked to costs to the owners - typically such owners are huge corporations in the case of the US.

I thought that that couldn't have been more clear.
Zelenski might have a tiny window left open to him, a call to the Kremlin saying that they will start walking away from the current combat lines and towards the borders of those 4 provinces.
If he did that, Putin said, the war would end one minute later, and negotiations could start with the head of the parliament, or other representative.
He might even save his own life if he offers to provide evidence against the Americans in the International Courts.
And get to live out the remainder of his natural life in some tiny village somewhere in Siberia. Would be pretty generous, but hey, the Americans right! There are still some things to settle with them.

A unifying project is required to keep the US from falling apart. It would be smart to look at something long-term and peaceful where existing expertise could be used, such as resource extraction from asteroids. The mistake with the early space exploration was that the ‘space race’ was defined as landing on the Moon, and once that had been done the public interest evaporated.)

покpовителей пpовaльныx Cтaмбyльcкиx пeреговoров.
