- The Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and Adidas Adizero Boston 12 are both daily trainers that use some of the top tech from their brand’s carbon super-shoes. They are also two of the very best all-rounder running shoes on the market, with versatile rides that work well for speed sessions and slow plods alike. But which should you get? Nick runs through the pros and cons of each shoe in this video.

Ive been waiting for this comparison for ages
I've been waiting for this :D
Great comparison! I own both as well and basically agree. Speed 3 is a bit more comfortable overall and just the king of versatility. Boston 12 has a better fit for me but I think both shoes could use thicker tongues, especially for the Boston 12.
Please do the sc trainer v2 comparison 🙏
The chickens appeared again!! Great comparison. I have the Boston 10 with almost 600Km and the Speed 2 with 850 km, have used them for steady to threshold and long runs as well.
Can't use the Speed 3 for recovery runs, easy runs or easy pace long runs because they make me run faster than I want to. I use them strictly for up-tempo runs like tempo, threshold, VO2 max, etc.
Yuppp
I bought and immediately returned the Speed as all I could feel was a bump under my arch. I think the Boston 12 is the best shoe to come out this year. It’s an all round shoe that you can use for all your types of training. I bet you will get more miles and durability from the Boston than the Speed.
Great video. Thanks
I have speed 3 and get constant hot spots in them they are a bit wide for me and need to cinch the laces up a lot there comfy but just too soft for me .The Boston sounds it will suit me better thank you for that informative assessment
I had 2 pairs of speed 2s and loved them. Speed 3s have a baggy upper and also gave me the biggest toe blister i have ever had from any shoe. Im gutted but i am just not enjoying the 3s one little bit 😢
Looking forward to seeing the Boston v the Prime x strung.
I own both shoes and as a not very fast runner I’ve definitely been gravitating towards the Boston 12 more. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I did have better fit going down a half size in the Boston 12 though.
so I just got the Boston 12s in size 9 (I've always worn size 9 in bostons from the B6-B9) and I feel like I have too much space in the toe box. Would you recommend me going with a size 8.5?
@@Dnman218 definitely
@@duplomacette was that your experience as well? You tried the size you always wore and then realized they didn’t fit right so you bought a half size down?
@@Dnman218 my normal size 10 probably would’ve worked but felt a little roomier than normal so I went down a half size and still had enough room in the toe box so I got the smaller size and have had no regrets
@@duplomacette Gotcha, thank you...just ordered a size 8.5. Yeah, I feel like the size 9 for me has more than the standard rule of a thumbs width in the toe box. Glad you are liking the half size down, hopefully mine works out as well.
Found the fit for speed3 cuts into my bunion 😞 whereas the Boston supported the bunion.
Thus bought the Boston ☺️
Own both and am a massive Boston 12 fan now, brilliant all rounder and lightstrike 2.0 is a massive improvement over lightstrike, and lightstrike pro just gets better and better my favourite elite foam a perfect training partner for the impressive adizero pro 3, the speed through 1&2 bottomed out a lot quicker than expected I just think the Boston 12 is by far the best for what it does for a much cheaper price, whilst a lot tend to buy the speed for racing which imo there are much better race day shoes available and at competitive prices
Which would be better for longer runs and marathons?
I have both and I am a heel striker and slow runner.. Speed 3 much less stable at recovery pace but Boston 12 needs to warm up.. In the first mile or so the Boston 12 feel bottom heavy and clunky but as you pick up the pace they are excellent. Boston 12 keep my Achilles Tendon and low calf muscle fresh but Speed 3 will kill my Achilles Tendon and low calf muscle if my cadance is low.. Speed 3 becomes mushy after an hour or so but Boston 12 gets better and better the longer you run.
Dude same here. Boston 12 only gets better the more you run. Ppl just gotta give ‘em a few runs first to break them in. But once you break them in they are beast. Ran 22k last night in them and I woke up with legs feeling fresh so I understand you how you’re saying they help your Achilles and lower calf cus I was having the same issues running other shoe but Boston 12s literally fixed that 🔥
Speed 2 trumps them both. The original super trainer 🥰 The Speed 2 ruined my shoe rotation because it was so good and bested most shoes for their use case. Speed 4 would love it to be closer to the 2 but suspect it will be all foamy as is the trend lately.
Actually you can grab the Boston 12s at the Adidas outlet for $86 with tax here in the US. Got a pair about a month ago and love em. So good on the feet and the upper mesh is really breathable so feet runs nice and cool
What about magic speed 3 and puma deviate nitro 2 against them ? Im thinking about getting one of these 4
I tried the Boston 12 in store and I found that the lateral side of the heel was not level with the medial side (lateral side was not touching the ground), making it I guess not very stable at the heel.. Is it safe for a heel striker? All my shoes have significant wear on those lateral heel sides.. thanks
I know Kieran is not in this video but could you please do a side by side mile?
The upper on the Sauncony is far superior, incredibly comfortable and long wearing. I’ve put 600km into my pair and they look like new
I was about to get the Boston but Puma had a 45% off sale on Deviate Nitro Elite 2 here... ended up much cheaper option. Fast trainers covered for a bit now since I bought 2 pairs.
I just took my Boston 12's out for their first run which was a slow and easy run. First thought were they didn't feel as nice as my speed 3s at slower pace. Hopefully they soften up a bit.
dont use B12 for slow/easy run, they're more tempo shoes....aka 5min/km or below :)
@@tadejdanev5030 thank you. The review states they are good at easy runs too..was just saying they wasn't best which backs up your point.
I don't think there's any plated shoe that's good for slow recovery runs, because the plates or rods (either nylon, pebax or carbon or something else), are there for the snap thus promoting faster transitions... wouldn't feel nice at slow paces. Then again, may be subjective I guess.
I made the switch from speed 3 to the boston 12 after 550 miles. The speed 3 does have a bit more comfort but the boston 12 def feels quicker with a firmer feel. The boston is probably what i expected the speed 3 to be. Im pleased i made the switch.
How is the sizing on both? I wear a 10.5 in the speed 2s but not sure what to go for in the bostons
@Icavein1 I'm half size smaller in the boston 12. I seem to be a 10 in saucony but 9.5 in all adidas range.
I've just ordered the speed 3 ,got 220 miles in speed 2 gonna retire at 300 and gonna get boston 12 for long runs after my novablast 3s get retired
This is such a hard choice for me. I love the Speed 2, and, like Nick, the Endo Speed 3 is a bit roomy for me. But, it's still an exceptional shoe by all accounts, as is the Boston 12. I think I'll just try to squeeze out more miles from the Speed 2 and then test them both out myself -- it's too close on paper/review alone!
If the Boston is anything like my Takumi Sen 9 upper, then it just wouldn't be comfortable enough for longer runs, fine for up to 10 km, but I do get lace pressure and hot spots in the Adidas; I believe due to how I have had to lace them to get a decent lock down and try to stop foot movement (as I am getting hot-spots, probably not got the lacing right just yet). I think I'll stick with my Speed 3's for my longer and easier runs, the uppers are just far more plush.
try lock laces?
That's my impression so far as well, owning both. Speed for longer runs since it's a bit softer. Boston for faster shorter stuff because it's nice and snappy.
Always enjoy seeing some chickens in the shoe portraits!
The Boston 12 is the better shoe. It's far more stable, the cushioning doesn't bottom out at distance, it's significantly faster, and probably more flexible than the Speed 3.
Do you prefer Boston 12 or zoom fly 5?
I still think the novablast 3 is still the best daily trainer out there, especially for the price
Wouldn’t the Boston 12 be more comparable to the Kinvara Pro, given the use of 2 midsole materials?
Kinvara Pro is much heavier and higher stack. I found it very different to the Boston 12, more of an easy day cruiser, rather than an all-rounder like the Boston and Speed
I have to say for the cost of these shoes, and running shoes generally. Companies need to think more about the outsole, id go for the adidas as the outsole in the speed just looks awful, puma do well here, great outsoles at a fraction of the cost of asics/saucony et al. Hate feeling like am slipping when running
Love the chickensss
Wellness speed three doesn’t work for me or lease not like speed two in the one, and it would be a good suggestion as a replacement for the original speed
Do you have any thoughts on sizing compared to the Adidas Prime Strung? I got my normal 11 in that and it felt very slightly loose. I wear and 11 in the Speed 3, which fits great - although the Pro 3 was way too tight and I needed an 11.5. I know - it's all very confusing 😝😂
I wear the same size in the Strung and Boston 12, and went half a size up in the Pro 3 too. I don’t think I could go a half size down in the Boston. Hope that helps, sizing always tricky with Adidas for me!
@@TheRunTesters helps a lot - thank you! The Strung I've only worn a few times, so I think I just need to play around with the lockdown a little - so I think I'll stick with the 11 and not risk the 10.5. Thanks for the rapid reply and love the content :)
I want to try the Boston 12 but I have a wide foot (I wear mens run shoes because that’s a women’s wide but sometimes they are still too narrow “cough cloudsurfer cough” and I can’t have tight laces otherwise my feet go numb 😩 love my Speed 3s but I save them for races.
Boston 12 has a wider toe box, and not as tapered as the Speed 3. Mid foot and heel are narrower… depends where you need the width.
Is there a significant difference in terms of stability? If so, which is the most stable option? (Currently using the Saucony Tempus as a daily trainer and want a bit speedier option)
great question!
Speed 3 no question
Adidas must improve the heel (collar, padding), lace, the upper mesh on the 13th version of Boston which can be found in the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Then for Saucony they must improve the outsole by imitating PowerRunHG or PowerRun, that's it. Definitely will be supershoes for daily training or even for racing if they have it improved it properly.
i have to give the edge to the boston 12 just slightly as when you are going well that shoe just explodes and keeps you going. Speed 3 is more comfortable at a bit easier pace.
Totally agree and why I think it's a better shoe if you only have one (the speed 3).
the boston actually has 34mm heel and a 6mm drop
Both comparable with puma DN Nitro 2
Where is the cat?
Usually asleep somewhere just out of shot
I have both…. And love ‘em.
But the Adidas upper isn’t made for durability/ longevity. Definitely the weakest part of the Boston 12s
The Boston 12 upper is trash. Not a good fit for me at all. Endorphin S3 is great 👍
It's still a fantastic shoe? The boston wasn't a fantastic shoe, at least the 10 and 11.
Judging by design:
Adidas: 1
Saucony: 0
If you need any tyoe of stability forget the speed 3, over time the foam began to collapse & caused a knee problem
