I Can only agree with your thoughts with regards weather or not the Mac Studio would be worth the money when once current computer does everything you need without breaking a sweat. Spending 2000 or more USD on new gear would be better put towards buying a higher end monitor. Haven’t however not yet found a monitor that ticks enough boxes at a price I am willing to pay.

Absolutely. I myself have yet to find that monitor that ticks all the boxes too 😆

I do not own any Mac computer at the moment and I’m still using a very old WindowsPC. I have started doing TH-cam videos using just iMovie on my iPhone 12 promax (my PC is too old to video edit on). Do you think that the Mac mini 16 GB would be sufficient for my needs (fairly basic video editing) or would it be worth getting the Mac studio? The other option is to get an iPad Pro 12.9 and continue using iMovie on that and then get the Mac mini M2 when it is released. Like you, I feel that the Mac studio is probably too much for my needs.

I would say a Mac mini with 16GB of memory is very much capable of handling what you want to do and much more. These M1 Macs fly through basic video editing even in 4K especially on iMovie and Final Cut Pro, and will serve you well for several years at least.
While you can edit video on an iPad Pro, I personally find it more tedious and limiting than on a Mac due to iPadOS and it can end up costing quite a bit more than a Mac mini depending on what spec and peripherals you go for. I don’t expect the new M2 Mac mini to be available to ship in less than 6 months either.
And you’re definitely right that there’s no need to shell out for the Mac Studio :) Thanks for watching!

I have a studio but my editing needs are more than a mini can handle and the process for more complex uses is much more enjoyable, but a friend has a mini and for even simple 4k it is more than enough. Unless you are using demanding titles/colour/ fusion (which makes most machines struggle a bit) you should be absolutely fine, do get the 16gb though you may well need it.

A lot depends on your budget and desires. Nobody on this planet *needs* a Mercedes S-Class. A Camry will get you from point A to point B just as well. The Mercedes is definitely not worth the money when you consider it purely from a utilitarian point of view. From a purely utilitarian perspective, no I probably don't *need* a Studio Ultra. But I really want one and I can easily afford it. So I bought one. Just like an S-Class.

Absolutely, if you just want one and can afford it, go for it! :)
