    Wizard skating isn't old enough to have been capitalized on, turned into a competitive sport with different values applied to different moves. The only prioritization of one movement over another is when people emulate their heroes, and not some "objective" panel of judges who crown a winner at some corporate-sponsored event. Maybe one day that will happen, but for now, it is a beautiful open field of international creatives just absolutely frolicking in the flowers. Thanks for another fantastic endorsement of this practice, Tom!

      It's a weird thought but that's almost why I hope Wizard skating doesn't hit mass appeal the way aggressive did. Wizard skating is so unscripted and natural, everyone in it is so uniquely expressive because there is no right or wrong to it, only what feels good.
      It'd be a sad day when a kid feels the need to do a trick a certain way to make it valid, and not because "that's how my favorite skater did it."

    It's the adaption of inline skates into a flow art, which is any physical activity that prioritizes expression and creativity over competing like a sport. I feel like flow arts are the next evolution of physical activity as it allows individual and group activity in a very natural way, also focusing more on your own development in a non-competitive environment.

    You hit the nail on the head with this one as you have in many other videos! Wizard skating is the purest art form of rollerblading and we should all give praise to skate Jesus leon and his disciples mushroom blading guys mike Torres brattey brothers mike witzemann that have bred a culture within the culture.

    with wizard skating being fairly new to me as a participant i noticed how much more fun it is to just try things when there's no label on certain tricks. i mean sure there's names but it feels a lot like when i started skating agg and we didn't know that there were names and "unwritten rules". i just follow people that wizardskate and try to recreate certain moves that stuck with me and see how i can build that into other moves and so on :)

      @@slingshotmcoy it's a shame there's people like that, that's one of the reason I used to be hesitant about calling my skating Wizardskating. I used to just say flatland cuz I'm not good at all that technical stuff.

    • @billyarlew
      @billyarlew ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@slingshotmcoy I definitely think that certain terms like lion and gazelle imply an edge switch, but that doesn't mean that center-edge swivels are *not* a wizard trick, they're just a different kind of wizard trick

    • @TomMoyse
      @TomMoyse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it’s at a great stage of exploration. It’s not strictly defined so the user is free to make it whatever they want and other wizard skaters seem to appreciate this. You can probably do that with agg as well, but you’ll face far more criticism, maybe even self criticism as you don’t feel like you’re following what the vast majority are doing. So sick

    As an early inline skating participant, 'Wizard' skating was at the start. I was young and have great memories of skating the local business complexes and through the malls. We didn't have any names for the moves, but we would try and imitate eachothers 'flow'. Its amazing to see so many of the things we did in this video.
    I am just getting back on skates 25+ years later. My current skates have a rocker frame (4x80), and it feels amazing. Today, I was messing with putting harder wheels in the center to give them more slides, which led me to TH-cam. I wanted to see what others were doing. It looks like I have a whole rabbit hole to go down.

    I've taken breaks from being on wheels sometimes 2-3 year breaks and I've found that when I am actively training my coordination, I am more coordinated in all other aspects of my life, if I'm actively and ambidextrously engaging my brain ambidextrously then in turn I am a better guitar player, a better pianist, a better painter a stronger swimmer and a quicker thinker. I'm more patient throughout my entire day if I start it out on skates. Being back on blades has worked wonders for my depression. And the shift in mood and just all-around metal presentness makes it so rewarding using this strategy for self-care.

    I have no idea what “Wizard Skating” is, but during the 1990s there were few things that I loved more than aggressive inline skating. I always wanted to be a skateboarder but I was terrible at it; I couldn’t even Ollie no matter how many times I tried. But rollerblading? Dude, I was pretty good. I had a pair of ‘trick blades’ that cost close to $300 in 1996 and had no breaks on them. Didn’t need them. I was pretty darn good and I loved doing it.
    At 45 and pretty much completely crippled I won’t be buying a new pair and heading out to the skatepark, but I’m glad to see that rollerblades are regaining some popularity.

    I still find it weird that no one has made a "wizard like" printed frame for the 50/50 prime frame cores, they fit up to 72mm supposedly, yet all the frames bar one are for 60mm.
    Cost is definitely an issue for wizards all around with frames and big wheels being a fairly large expense (relatively speaking, this isn't golf) But a complete setup is still going to get pretty close to 1000 dollars, if not more. Limits the accessibility somewhat.
    Also, I laughed audibly at least 3 times during this one, impeccable. 👍

      4x100 is the best all round setup. Better for distance skating with the big wheels. Better for urban skating over different terrain. • @mr.rodriguez5099

    This is half of the story. The other part is that the wizard set up incredibly limits the grinding possibilities. Without groove tricks, inline skating is diminished. I can understand the desire of skating flat but wizard is limiting. A few toe rolls and a few spins are not comparable to the complexity, the adrenaline and the challeges of the agressive skating.

      @@TomMoyseyou are missing the point Tom. Everyone choose what they want to be creative with. Some aggressive, some may be wizard or a bit of both. There are evident differences. People have to accept that. Cheers

      @mr.rodriguez5099 you can make anything sound boring by oversimplifying it. I could say agg skating is just a couple of grinds and turns but it's more than that. So just saying "a couple of toe spins" proves no point

    • @TomMoyse
      @TomMoyse  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use just a longer frame and wear down the wheels until they become rockered, this will give the basics of the wizard feeling

  • @mikecynic5167
    @mikecynic5167 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks cool, but the entry fee is absurd. Maybe someday.

    • @TomMoyse
      @TomMoyse  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few ways around that. You could rockers you wheel to get a feel for it, see if it's something you want to pursue. There are alternative brand, I can't vouch for other brands quality wise as i've only used Wizard. Agreed it's not cheap (cheaper than other sports for sure, but that's not the point) but the frame would last you, pretty much as long as you wanted to use it.

  • @imomedvidek

    It would be nice if the frames didn't cost an arm and a leg. The prices for what is essentially a piece of aluminum are ridiculous.

    • @TomMoyse
      @TomMoyse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The price is reflective of quality and design. If you think it’s just a piece of aluminium and that’s all your getting yes that would be ridiculous

  • @H3nrque
    @H3nrque ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest downside is the price. These frames are absurdly expensive for us folks in developing nations. You can't even find one locally and would have to import and pay 120% of the price in taxes.

      You don't need that much... Any frame with a long wheelbase (longer than your foot) will do, if it's flat you just need to skate a bit until the natural rocker developes 😉

    For the skaters who pushed tooth and nail for Rollerblading to be a legitimate sport, worthy of being recognized as a hobby that only the bold dare to compete to be the top of, Wizard Skating came in and completely ruined all that hard work LOL.
    I personally don't care anymore but that's how I felt when it first came onto the scene. I thought it was .......frankly......"gay". :D
