They are my pride and joy but never get used, as they are all now remastered to digital. Maybe my grandchildren will realise their historic value, when they grown old. Great rendition of the solo. A lot of people may not realize that the beginning of this solo is no cake walk. The syncopation and the unexpected speeding up and slowing down are both central to the appeal of this solo and why it's so damn hard to do well.
I hope more people realize that the folks making music right now are not actually musicians . But with the folks back then they definitely were musicians. I don't even know but I'm sure like half the people you hear on new release radio hip hop stuff didn't even know how to play single instrument even partially know anything about music

I'm 60 and spent many years around the music scene in LA. I have to say that I've never heard anyone play any Steele Dan. You absolutely rocked it!! All that time practicing has obviously paid of!!
Yeah definitely a visual thing. It doesn't sound anywhere near as good until you see it in action. The way it came in with the fret slide put the hairs on my neck up.
Haha. It's funny how different ears hear different things. The insanely complex solo is definitely what drew me to this song in the first place, even when I was quite young and not yet a guitar player. It's a pretty great song, any way you slice it. 😀
Whether originally played on a Sitar or a Guitar this fellas rendition made me watch the video 6 times! 3 just because it's Steely Dan and deserves that respect. Twice to see the girlfriend's reaction and enjoyed her reaction as much as he did. 1 more time just for him feeling proud of himself, enjoying the entire moment in full. Played on a Coral electric sitar. Pretty cool instrument, it's basically an electric guitar with a lot of sympathetic strings that vibrate when the guitar is played, as well as a sort of plate on the bridge that lightly touches the strings and gives it that sort of rattley sitar sound. There's plenty of vids on here that show them, maybe check some out if you're interested!
I can usually tell a cover or live version from the studio version within a couple notes, but oh my god this just blew me away with how close to the original it is! Your amp settings, the way you let every note ring out for exactly how long it needed to, and just how smooth the picking was in the more technical sections was absolutely insane. You're an animal lol

I've heard that tune so many times and never knew it had a killer solo like that. Sometimes we hear, but we don't listen.
Visual effect is the key. I guess. I never saw everybody playing that solo, so I have no clue how hard is tu duplicate such terrific sounds.
Yeah definitely a visual thing. It doesn't sound anywhere near as good until you see it in action. The way it came in with the fret slide put the hairs on my neck up.
It’s one of those tunes that gets buried in with the drive home hour on the easy listening stations.
Haha. It's funny how different ears hear different things. The insanely complex solo is definitely what drew me to this song in the first place, even when I was quite young and not yet a guitar player.

Whether originally played on a Sitar or a Guitar this fellas rendition made me watch the video 6 times! 3 just because it's Steely Dan and deserves that respect. Twice to see the girlfriend's reaction and enjoyed her reaction as much as he did. 1 more time just for him feeling proud of himself, enjoying the entire moment in full. This was worth recording, worth watching and worth commenting on. Great job!
Played on a Coral electric sitar. Pretty cool instrument, it's basically an electric guitar with a lot of sympathetic strings that vibrate when the guitar is played, as well as a sort of plate on the bridge that lightly touches the strings and gives it that sort of rattley sitar sound. There's plenty of vids on here that show them, maybe check some out if you're interested!

I can usually tell a cover or live version from the studio version within a couple notes, but oh my god this just blew me away with how close to the original it is! Your amp settings, the way you let every note ring out for exactly how long it needed to, and just how smooth the picking was in the more technical sections was absolutely insane.
