Dear, Jay and Jill. Thank you guys for bringing this up. Entertainment is WAY more than people give it credit for wether it be games, comics/manga, tv shows, movies, music etc… has helped me personally and so many many people. This media can positively change peoples lives for the better and even save them as you pointed out. Give us courage and hope in very dark times. So many stories and examples from DBZ inspiring people to workout or this movie/game giving someone hope to push on and through. I just wanted to say I appreciate you guys, and thank you for covering this topic 😄

I’d say a few games that ended up changing my life was Detroit Become Human, Knights of the Old Republic, Mario Kart and most importantly Persona 5 Royal! Persona 5 Royal helped me see life from a different perspective and helped me get more in touch with myself!

Games provide a break from reality so that you're not overwhelmed with you daily problems. It also provides you with examples of individuals who overcome hardship and improve themselves. And multiplayer games can boost your self-esteem trough victories over other players.

The games we play, the stories we experience. It helps us learn and grow. Like watching the assassins overcome their issues helping us learn that we can move on we can be better. Kratos showing us the story of a man who lost everything and went on a quest for revenge and now regrets ever doing it. The infamous games showing us how Cole sacrifices himself for the greater good. These games change our lives. The experiences we go through help us deal with real problems. Also I like cheese pizza

Yes I absolutely agree, The World Ends With You on the DS single handedly changed the course of my life. It made me see the world in a different light during the hardest part of my life. I realized I wasn’t alone in my feelings and only a game could have done. The progress part of a game is a big part of why games mean so much to us, we are going on the journey with the characters. I’m glad other people can understand and articulate what that feeling is like so thanks for this. My favorite pizza is Pepperoni

Not only do I feel empathetic toward ppl who not only had a game change their lives but I feel even more empathetic and sad when said ppl are older and don’t have a way to access it in the modern day. I can personally relate as a Sly Cooper fan and MvC1/2 fan hoping we can experience those games in the modern day via rerelease but great video tho

I 100% agree. I think too often people just dismiss video games and that’s because they don’t play them themselves and think of them as childish. I’m sure there was a time when people thought the same way about books and movies when they were first invented. The reason I love video games so much is because more than any other kind of media, you can interact with it. You can literally put yourself in the world and interact with it (as much or as little as the developers intended.) It gives ideas and thoughts even more inspiration, so when someone cuts down this fact it’s like they’re cutting me. I have no idea where I’d be without video games, considering they played a part with my father and I before he passed. Shout out to OG Star Wars
Battlefront 1 & 2. I also believe video games are legitimate works of art, considering the insane amount of time that goes into development. So when half-baked comments surface, they’re not only under-cutting your personal experience, but also under-cutting and under-valuing someone’s job, someone’s livelihood. All in all, I truly believe that games can change people’s lives and that they deserve more recognition and praise, rather than scolding and criticism. If you don’t like the game you don’t have to play it. Also, my favorite kind of pizza is pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon. Keep up the great content and work Jay and Jill!

Video games have shaped my life so much. I've bonded with people across the world and in my personal live over them since I started my journey with the original Wii Sports when I was 6.
If i were to say a game changed my life, it'd probably be Dragon Quest XI S. It gave me easily one of my favorite protagonists of all time through a story about going above and beyond what it means to be a hero even with the whole world against you. Really empowering stuff.

As a someone that's physically disabled and does admit to self-loathing and the desire to die, I get this. A few years ago I admitted this to my dad and he gently tossed a knife and said do it then. Mass Effect 3's opening still breaks my heart. Watching that little boy die and Shepherd's face knowing they can do nothing still makes me cry. What I see is my brother's son and my baby sister's little boy and that just makes me want to beat the Reapers with everything I have every time. The Assassins mantra of "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted" is the closest thing to religion I have because I get what it's saying. And finally pepperoni and bacon topped pizza

Cool to see Yu-Gi-Oh get some love, that's how I met my best friend. I was in 10th grade and my mom suggested I join the club at a library down the street from my high school. I hit it off with most of the people there, but my eventual best friend and I really hit it off because for a time we were the only people from our high school going to that club.
The amount of great memories I have playing video games feels like too many to count. Playing split screen multiplayer in MW3 with my Dad and brother, or my brother and cousins, or split screen spec ops with another cousin, playing Skate 3 with my brother, showing my Dad or one of my cousins the story of Assassin's Creed 2 as I played it, watching my babysitter play Jak 2 and 3, making up stories in Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, helping my brother complete Batman Arkham Knight and accidentally spoiling it in a moment of frustration, I should stop now before I completely drown in nostalgia. Point is, I agree, good vid.
Edit: BLT pizza. Yes I commented this before finishing, to make it even funnier, I paused the video only about a minute or two before you said comment your favorite pizza.

To be honest I don't have anything too crazy profound but a simple conversation with a friend of mine in 6th grade where we talked about video games in the hallway introduced me to gaming with other people. Really I would just play single player games or online games by myself but the simple question my friend asked me "Do you have a playstation 4?" got me in to gaming with a large group of friends. Also I like pepperoni

Silent Hill 2 helped me through a really rough patch in my life a year ago. I had been going through a dark age already at that point but that game really helped kick start my recovery. I lost a lot of people that meant a lot to me. 2020 was a really shitty year for me. Kind of ironic given how messed up that game is. Media isn’t disposable.

First and foremost, Triple Meat Pizza with Mushrooms and Olives 😂😅
But the game that changed my life most recently was Sid Meier’s Civilization 6. I first found it at a time where I was just about to consider getting my autism diagnosis (which I now officially have been diagnosed as having) and I felt like I couldn’t do anything right and that I was just an absolute moron, but the more I play Civ 6, the smarter I feel. I actively feel like I’m optimizing correctly and that I’m getting smarter every time I load up a new map with a new leader.

The game that changed my life the most:
    Mass Effect

  • @ankuriboh

I think a big thing about why people dismiss video games is because they're called "games". TBH I think most of the people who would say "it's just a game" are also sinking countless hours into an endless stream of shows on Netflix.
I think Mass Effect, Dishonored, and Deus Ex are the games that really made me love the medium. Mass Effect stuck with me the most that I was roleplaying as Garrus in a D&D campaign where the DM decided to insert Mass Effect characters (when he found out what I was doing), but he got mad at me for correcting his descriptions of a Krogan. I explained they have humps with water and nutrients like camels, not hunchbacks. He yelled at me "They don't know that! They're not xenobiologists!"
As for my favorite pizza... I actually don't eat cheese, so my go-to is a thick crust cheeseless pizza with pepperoni, salami, sausage, mushroom, and black olives.
You can probably tell things are difficult when I go out to eat.

The game that changed my life the most for me is Life is Strange I played this game for the first time back in 2020 and before I played this game I was really dealing with a lot of identity issues when it came to my sexuality and growing up in a Christian household I was taught all of that was a sin and it caused me to have serious depression that I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone about. And this game really taught me that you shouldn’t let religion bring you that much shame and guilt over anything. The character of Kate Marsh shows this perfectly as she felt shame in the game for what she did and became extremely depressed. I also learned through this game that there is nothing wrong with being bi or any other part of the lgbtq community and it can and should be normal. This game truly changed my life and without it I wouldn’t be where I am today. Also my favorite pizza is meat lovers.

Non-gamers might think that I am crazy, but _Final Fantasy VII_ and _Batman: Arkham_ series changed my life, especially the latter. Arkham moved me so much that a decade ago, it was the only thing I talked about with my friends to the point that they just wanted me to shut up for years. I was this missionary passing on the Gospel to everyone, and I proselytized two friends into Batfans. I successfully converted two dudes into fans of the Arkham series. I listened to the soundtrack of each installment like a pensive congregation listens to psalms. (Fun fact: while most of my friends were listening to _Blinding Lights_ two years ago, but my top Spotify song of 2020 was _Aerith's Theme_ .)
When Batman said "you are about to find out" to Oswald, I felt goosebumps. When Joker said "me? IN A THONG?!" in _Asylum_ , I bellowed with laughter. One of my classmates would creepily tell me "heads or tails, kitty-cat?", and I would scream "TWO GUNS, B**CH!". These dialogues felt so iconic to me that speaking them felt like quoting commandments from arcane scriptures.
Prior to _Arkham Asylum_ , I had never played a stealth game, so not only did Arkham introduce me to the stealth genre but also to the _Metal Gear Solid_ series, which is known as the great who-is-the-almighty-boss-grand-daddy of the genre. A poster of _Asylum_ in the November 2009's issue of the PlayStation Magazine piqued my curiosity, and I head out to TH-cam to see what was the big deal about it. The first ever video pertaining to this legendary franchise I saw was the walkthrough of the Silent Knight challenge map (from a channel that was perhaps called "AnEvilBowlOfCereal"; I am a little foggy). Within the first minute of that video, Batman toggled detective mode, grappled on to a gargoyle, silently dropped and crouched on a catwalk, and subdued an armed henchman. Just a handful of those moves in a minute sold me on the game. This sort of gameplay is not special or groundbreaking in any way today (and even not so much in that time), but I knew in less than a minute of that vid that this game is going to be unlike anything I had previously played. Just a fraction of a minute was enough to convince me that I was in for a hitherto unseen Batman experience.
It is also the best Zeldalike series in my opinion. Those who say that _Breath of the Wild_ is the best Zelda game should try _City_ and _Knight_ .
It's not just a game. It's an emotion, a memory, a parable, an experience, a world, and a subject of thoughtful discussions and debate.
    Great video, by the way.
