A take on K-pop’s rampant and highly profitable fan culture, “Pied Piper,” is BTS doing what they do best: addressing a societal problem through their jaunty music. In this case, the obsessive nature of fans, originally derived from “fanatics.”
In line with the band's career-long focus on urging their youthful audience to pursue its own dreams, the boy band’s mellow nu-disco-imbued track serves as a playful reminder to ARMY that a boy band isn’t life's be-all and end-all. In an industry dependent on the taste and affections of its audience, BTS’ frank approach to the dangers and realities of the intense dedication from fans and the band’s role as a distraction in those people’s lives, is as contradictory as the group has ever been towards its place in pop music.
“Now stop watching and study/ Your parents and bosses hate me,” says RM in the first verse, referring to the time that fans spend absorbing BTS related content and how it distracts from their daily lives. “I know you don’t decide what you like/ stop [and] interpret the music videos later.”
Filled with lyrical tough love, warm affection is audible through the soft melody and the lighthearted delivery of the raps, turning the song away from being a bitter clap back and into a guiding ode from BTS to their fans, overflowing with paternal tenderness.
Penned by three members of the group -- Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope -- their company’s CEO “Hitman” Bang and several other regular collaborators, the lyrics are rife with nods to the German legend of the titular Pied Piper who led the children of Hamelin away from their parents forever as BTS poise themselves as an alluring danger that is “taking over you.”
"Follow the sound of the pipe/ Follow this song/ It's a little bit dangerous but I'm so sweet" sings the band during the chorus. "I came to save you, I came to ruin you.”
The track similarly refers to the Biblical tale of the Garden of Eden, with the band depicting themselves both as paradise and as the fruity temptation that led Adam and Eve away from the straight and narrow.
The literary references are nothing new for BTS. Fans have discerned references to works by the likes of Herman Hesse and Haruki Murakami in the band’s past music videos and songs. But the message of “Pied Piper,” with the group positioning itself as a danger to its fans, is unlike anything that the boy band and few other K-pop acts, have ever done before.

CalicoGirl WOW WOW WOW. I love this so much! And thinking about it, it’s a great prequel to the MOTS7 era because now we’re seeing the fruit of the obsessive culture that usually happen with boy bands. I love that the tempo and beat of this song is so contradictory to its message. Other artists wouldve so done this differently (if they’re even brave enough to write a song like this).

Jin has improved so much. The last couple of comebacks have had more of Jin in the center actually dancing. And boy is good! He's also opened up his nasal resonance and sings a lot in his lower range now as well as his upper range.

Jimin is so graceful but powerful! And jungkook was for the first time sexy for me lo. Taehyung wrecked me hard again also. And I was so proud of Jin for owning the dance and for singing so good. I also think that he sang so freely here . I don’t know either how we survived this, I remember live streaming the muster and being shook.
Lol I also skipped dimple sometimes but not after this, same as with pied piper. But Ifelt the same way with e.g. so what, and after the concert I loved it.
The falsetto in pied piper is jimin, especially you hear his swallowing the beginnings like the little crack.

About Jin's voice: I think it has to do with Jin becoming more confident and secure in his abilities as a vocalist, and also about BigHit finding a place for him, so to say. Especially in their earlier days, it always felt like Jin was too gentle for their concepts. I mean, all of them were, really, but especially Jin's voice isn't made for that kind of music, I think. He's allowed and able to be himself now, and I think that gave him the confidence to kinda... let go, in a way, which is why he sounds more relaxed and less strained now. Those are just my personal thoughts though.
Annique sounds about right though! But he’s definitely improved. Confidence does play a key role in giving a more relaxed performance
When i saw the reaction about jk's face in pied piper... same my dude same. No one ever recovered from that face ever again.

All I see is the words of professional ballet dancers or ordinary dancers and comparing them between J-Hope and Jimin, they say that Jimin's dance has mastery and balanced and elegant movements.
I enjoy fanboy’ing/fangirl’ing with you! So please don’t hesitate to appreciate the boys. 😉 and as for the falsettos, I think it was Jimin first then JK then Jin then V in that order.

While the members, especially V and Jungkook can easily switch fast from a falsetto into a lower register, the falsettos are mostly done by Jin and Jimin
JK himself doesn’t do it a lot as he is the main vocalist and so sings more parts which are then accompanied by the other three (V does the low parts)
But he is the one that does the sub-vocals for the rappers almost all the time and also accompanies the vocal line

Don't get me wrong, they were insanely amazing here but the camera really duped Jin during the Dimple performance because he did the same move as Jimin (the body roll where you do different coordinations) and he did so well and worked so hard for it but the DVD recording totally missed it and zoomed out at that moment. I felt really sad tbh. It's indeed not as smooth as Jimin, but it was so good too. (Also, Jin is the 2nd most flexible member of BTS from what I've observed, I know most people say it's Hobi but that isn't the main trait of his dance style, so if they trained him for contemporary or ballet he would really excel in it. Like, he can already do Leg Hold, Back Bending, Leg Extensions, etc. He can even do the same leg fold+back on the floor move that Hobi does in WAB pt 2, just without the falling part. He's always been flexible from the start, as seen in the few variety shows they attended back then, but he lacked the power, around the WINGS era though, he already gained more than enough muscle and strength to execute contemporary moves. I know it would have been a lot of work and of course it's better if they prioritize their health but they really could have trained Jin in that style. Like in Black Swan, it's easy to see how much that type of dance fits him. He's already good now, but it really would have also improved his overall dancing.) Sorry for the rant. hahahaha~ Just my two cents. It's something that I've always thought about it's just that I couldn't find anyone to talk to about it.

If you get the chance, I thought their Pied Piper performance at the Tokyo Dome was better. You can really see the dancing better. Must have had a quick change as Jimin finishes dressing on stage. Suga has a backwards news boy cap on that's adorable. The dancing at the end was impactful and really stuck with the theme of the song. I always feel like its the closest BTS got to their own Magic Mike moment. Lol.

In the original song jungkook and jimin do that falsetto but jk is the lead voice in the falsetto not jimin. they decided that jimin do the lead in the live and jungkook as a back. So they do both in the both versions.
