    As always, by using 'going to' instead of 'will', you add more certainty to your statement or underline the fact that this is a firm intention or plan.

  • @AngloLinkEnglish
    @AngloLinkEnglish  12 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yes, native speakers use these tenses, particularly the Future Continuous Tense (I'll be doing). The other two are less common, as they refer to very specific situations.

  • @AngloLinkEnglish
    @AngloLinkEnglish  12 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    They're all correct and there isn't a huge difference between them, other than each change making the message slightly stronger. Changing 'will' to 'going to' increases certainty, and changing 'Present Simple' to 'Present Perfect' insists on the completion of the first action. Therefore, you have 4 possibilities:
    I'll watch a movie when I finish ...
    I'll watch a movie when I have finished ...
    I'm going to watch a movie when I finish ...
    I'm going to watch a movie when I have finished ...

    Thank you very much for your lessons. As many people here say - You are the best teacher! I totally agree with them )) And please do not pay attention to those who ask you to be more energetic or speak faster, please do not. The slow and calm eninciation helps me (and I am sure, to many other people who learn English) to understand all explanations and rules that you give. Rapid speech we can hear and see by TV on BBC news ))

    This is wonderfully helpful, even for a native speaker! As an ESL teacher who was never given much in the way of grammar education, this video really helped me marry structures I understand intuitively with formal grammar.

    The Future Continuous (I will be doing) is an alternative to 'Present Continuous' for a Future arrangement. When you use this alternative, you are no longer underlining that it is a specific arrangement.

    To be honest, you know, you are the best grammar teacher that I have ever met so far. It is obvious to understand all the English tenses in your explanation. I will have been following you next lessons for long time in the future. I am so appreciate to it.
    I tried to use the tense after I had watched your videos. Please correcting my mistakes if you have time. Thanks a lot again.

    • @AngloLinkEnglish
      @AngloLinkEnglish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome, Jessica.
      Correction: I will be following your lessons for a long time in the future. (future continuous)
      By the end of this month, I will have been following your lessons for 3 months. (future perfect continuous)

  • @AngloLinkEnglish
    @AngloLinkEnglish  11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yes, and I would add:
    'going to' or 'Future Continuous' for plans
    'Future Perfect' to predict the future time by which an action is completed.

    Dear Miss Minoo,
    I have watched nearly all your video lessons about Tenses. May I say yours are the best, comparatively. That being said, the reasons are as follows:
    1. First and foremost, you start your lesson with a brief explanation, which is concise and easy to understand.
    2. You give the Formulation.
    3. The Usage and definition.
    4. Following with a time line diagram.
    5. The Common Mistakes, which students often make.
    6. Finally, to end the lesson with some useful exercises.
    Great. Thanks to you for doing your job as a teacher with much dedication and zeal.
    Kind regards,
    Fazil

    Here are the 4 Tenses in this context to further clarify it for you:
    1. I drive to work every day. So, as usual, I will be driving to work this time tomorrow.
    2. I sometimes drive to work, and sometimes take the bus. I think I will drive to work tomorrow. OR I have already decided: I am going to drive to work tomorrow.
    3. I have to pick up my colleague, Alan, and drive him to work. I am driving to work with Alan tomorrow.

  • @AngloLinkEnglish
    @AngloLinkEnglish  12 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    'They will have been flying for several hours by this time tomorrow' combines 3 ideas:
    1. They are flying now or are going to start flying in the near future.
    2. They will continue to fly for several hours.
    3. At this time tomorrow, they will still be flying.
    It is not a very common tense, but as a student of English, you need to know that it exists and what it means.

    There are websites to teach and test pronunciation, but really a piece of software cannot tell you how good your English is. I recommend you have a one-to-one lesson with a teacher online or face-to-face. Ask the teacher for a conversation lesson where you do 80% of the speaking and they give you feed-back on your English, and point out what you need to improve. You can then use online materials to work on those areas.

    I think as a native speaker, you probably always use a contraction for both 'will' and 'would' (I'll & I'd), which makes it really hard to differentiate between 'will' and 'would'. I can assure you that the 'Future Perfect' is formulated with 'will' rather than 'would', as its name indicates.

  • @AngloLinkEnglish
    @AngloLinkEnglish  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    No future tense is wrong in isolation. The question is always whether it says exactly what the speaker intends to in the context or not.
    If you have a plan to attend this conference or it is on your agenda to do so, 'We will attend ...' will not tell the speaker that.

    Good day Miss Minoo.
    Correct me if i'm wrong. The Future Tenses are same with Present tenses in formulation except:
    1.) You add "will" in future.
    -I am doing = i will be doing.
    -i have done = i will have done
    - i have been doing = i will have been doing
    2. the use of Have and Has.
    - He has done - He will Have done.
    thanks.

    In my opinion, this is only useful if your goal is learning how to translate from one language into another. If your goal is to communicate in English, then you must learn vocabulary in context, and by memorising meaningful phrases and sentences, and without translating them into your mother tongue.

    Because I am describing a 'state', not a completed action. If I use a different verb than 'have', I can use the Future Perfect: By the end of this video, you will have learned ... / practised ... etc.

    Hi! First, I'd like to say that you are a marvelous teacher.
    Second, I'd like to answer you the following question:
    - Could the example you've used at 10:11 be translated to:
    "He will be packing his bags tomorrow morning because he is going to leave for Mexico tomorrow afternoon"?

    • @AngloLinkEnglish
      @AngloLinkEnglish  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your positive comment, Victor.
      The first part is fine. The second part (He is going to leave for Mexico) would only work if the speaker lived near the Mexican border and had the intention to get into his car tomorrow afternoon and drive to Mexico. For anyone else who would have had to book a plane ticket in advance the correct sentence is: 'he is leaving for Mexico'.

    As I explain in the lesson, these are examples of Future Perfect Continuous. Your confusion possibly comes from the fact that in sentences 2 and 3, the Tense has switched to Present Perfect Simple. This is because 'to be' is a state verb, and 'to work' can be treated both as a state and an action verb. State verbs don't take Continuous Tenses. I recommend you watch my video entitled 'State Verbs' for more information.
