I changed the oil and filter on my 110,000 metro(1.1) every 6mnths and other than a couple odd spark plug changes it never missed a beat, so for me it was top class
A lightweight winner...that spat out head gaskets more often than I change my socks. Dear god, in what possible way could this engine be considered a "winner"?
Just about every person I know has had a K series engine Rover has had a head gasket failure. Those of you who have a fault free K series unit I wish you well!
probably the less reliable engine of his generation ! almost everybody had to change the head gasket for differents reasons ! it's unacceptable ! sure, it's light, sure there is a good power but unfortunatly, that's all ! this engine is the reason of rover death !

fantastic engine...have one in my rover 45 1.6...after the old headgasket was changed no problems at all...pulls strong and is economical...
As a ex garage owner it was very good engine for my profits 2 sides to every storey
It was all going so well until 19:11. I still think the K-series is a great engine though.
Putting a 1.6 twin cam in a metro... Good lad lol Also who knew Rory Stewart worked for Rover back then 29:00
Had a few k's, shame about the head gasket problem.
bravo :)
who was in charge of designing the headgasket?
BMW fault for overbored liners causing a lot of stress on such a under engineered package 1.4 engines are stronger than 1.8
A lightweight failure. we had a rover 214si 1993 head gasket went and all the electrics failed.

technically it's not the engine that's the problem, but the inadequate cooling system.
Joe Smith Also the plastic dowels didn't help
Indeed Gavin :)
