Question: I bought my first quad (Cheerson CX-10) a few months back and really enjoyed it. After many smashes and crashes it finally broke, so I'm looking to upgrade. What would you recommend? My main concerns are:
-durability (or at least fixability)
-good for outdoors and indoors
-good transmitter range
-HD video (or GoPro attachment)
So basically I want something relatively cheap that is decent for video, but also fun to fly by itself. Somewhere between a CX-10 and a DJI Phantom.
Anything like that that you would recommend? Thanks!
you seem to do the best reviews out of the many that do them , the others seem to fly way out of my ability to see what it is doing and don't have a format , always changing and they don't always show night time or out side shots
iam4god2day Thanks! Flying in my small kitchen was something I very specifically decided to do so that the model can be seen at all times. And I also picked a format and decided to stick to it, to give all my reviews a similar design so that people can know what all to expect, and when in the video that info may be given. :) Glad you appreciate what I've done to make a good review.

I just got the orange "riviera" version of this. Its identical to this, and it's remarkably controllable. I really like it. The bad thing about mine is that the low battery warning starts as soon as I take off, and I only get 70 seconds of hovering flight.
Sounds like a bad battery. :(
Have you checked out the FQ777-124 The Take Anywhere Drone? It looks like a pretty good quadcopter.

Brian James Fadol Thanks! Nope, what I showed in the video is what you get (well, what you would get if you could actually buy it anywhere right now. heh).
Yeah the advantage seems to be the everything in one box approach which slightly balances the lack in performance.
Depending on what protocol the transmitter uses one could in theory mod the charging connector out for a cable and use it with whatever nano the TX is compatible with, as long as the flier fits physically.

I know its sold out, but about how much did that set you back? Really neat design though, but I prefer something that has outdoor ability but still small... Also since I live the beach, a wind steady camera quad is really what I aim for, but I could see thud being fun as a quick fly round on the go kinda deal.

In the new version of this ( I put a link in my previous comment ) they have redesigned the charging port and you can charge with a USB cable! The way they have redesigned it is much better! And you can pre order them for August 2015! XD

Great video, it got me in the zone for pocket quads. But I need a bit help as well.
Can you tell me what drone is the most suitable to the following requirements? It would really be appreciated.
- Either a micro or nano drone
- Stable and easy to fly
- Can do flips and tricks
- IT HAS A FLIGHT time of at least six minutes
- SUPER STRONG, doesn't brake easily
- Below USD 35
If it can be a pocket quad, that's great.
Please reply. I'm going crazy choosing which drone suits these requirements. There are just so many drones out there. And I'm not that experienced. So please help. It would be appreciated.
+THE HONGKONGER I simply don't have the memory or info to know of a quad that meets all those requirements. And, in fact, it may simply not exist. You need to sacrifice some requirements in exchange for others. For example, ones that are strong and well-protected don't have long flight times because the protection adds weight, which reduces flight time.

Definitely going to need some rechargeable batteries for this one, unless you remove the AA batteries and rig up some other sort of charger for it.
What is the max flight time? Would you recommend this or the proto x? I have had like a few hours of flight.
+Amit Skanda I covered flight time in the review. I don't think you can buy this anywhere though, so the Proto X would be easier to fly. I'm not sure I'd really recommend it to a new pilot though. The exposed frame design of it makes it a bit vulnerable to breaking in crashes. It is also fast and twitchy, making it harder to fly. You might consider the Cheerson CX-10 instead.
My friend got me one for my birthday and it can't even take of and only goes forwards on the grounds and every time it touches something it switches of it self but that was just mine one in general it is very good

You could put a small piece of plastic on the battery contact so it doesn't over charge the li po :)
You could leave it fully plugged in, and slip a little bit of paper or plastic between the batteries and a contact, opening the circuit and making it safe so quad won't rattle or get overcharged
jbozarth81 But then I'd worry that the plug being connected may in some way slowly drain the quad's battery.
which can happen on some models. I wouldn't make something that way, but then again mine would probably cost more and never sell. like make it an induction charger so once it reports full and stops there's no more connection. Ah well, a guy can dream.

Yes. Btw, this model, you were right. If i forget to remove the little pin that charges it, the battery drains out pretty fast so i only have like 2 mins or something!

Sweet review Ryan. This is the same as the Helix S1102 which can be found on Amazon (comes with a USB charging cable though). Have you use the High mode on that thing? It should give you far more aggressive flying capability than Medium, at least in my experience. Also I found the pocket quad to be a bit quieter while in flight than the CX-10.
Yes this is the original. The indiegogo people keep posting is a fake relabel to cheat people of more money. Faking he made the product but not.

And yeah, I am familiar with the X8C and will likely review it. It's much bigger than the X5C. The X5C upgrade is called X5S, I believe.

Just a heads up, they have changed the name of the drone. It's now from the company "Revell Control" and the drone itself is now called "Nano Pocket"

Hi Guys. I think I can help. Check out Pocket Drone from TX Juice. It's launching on Amazon and Toys R Us in the US in October. It's almost the same but has Auto Trim and spare props (It's also being distributed by Horizon Hobby in the US). The Auto Trim is amazing. You simply press the joysticks in the opposite direction for 3 seconds and it's then perfectly trimmed every time! Awesome.

Kind of cute, but the lack of USB charger is a big minus. You're right, it will go through those AA batteries rather fast.
bukster1 I think the plug type is fairly standard, so you could probably buy a USB charger for it. I don't really blame it for not coming with one, since the entire point is for it to be transportable, and sort of an "all in one" package.

I ordered mine, but haven't received it yet. A couple of the reviews on youtube suggest that this model is pretty good, on par with CX-10 or even better.
James T Yeah, I just got mine. It seems pretty similar to the CX-10 in flight. My main issue with it is that the transmitter is nearly unusable for pinchers.

Kyle Schieler 200 QX is definitely the better flyer and has better LEDs, but the X6 is cheaper and has GPS.

Does the blade have more powerful motors? I love the return to home feature though, but I want a fun powerful flyer too.
Kyle Schieler I think the Blade would be more powerful, since it is lighter. I've only flown my X6 once so far though, so I'm not overly familiar with it yet. Blade has great FC programming though, and it's my absolute favorite quad, so I think it's highly unlikely that the X6 will out-perform it.

What's an ecceloromiter?
An accelerometer is an electronic device that knows what 'level' is. It is what smartphones use to know the angle of the phone, so you can tilt it to play games, etc. Quadcopters use the accelerometer in order to hold a level hover. :)

What's the range
I see you asking this question on a lot of my micro drone reviews, and basically the answer is... the range is your eyesight. These small drones are not meant for long-range flight, so the range is pretty much irrelevant. You will likely lose sight of it before you lose the 2.4GHZ radio signal connection.
