You don't need to be a business seller to promote or have access to the eBay hub. Also according to eBay and HMRC as long as you declare your earnings you don't need to have an eBay shop or business account while selling on eBay..
Do you have a link to where eBay say that? I’m sure technically you SHOULD register as an eBay business seller. I think what puts some people off is publicly displaying addresses. I guess you can use a virtual office address ? Anyone know if that works? If you obviously put that address on your business bank account I guess eBay can match it up and let it be ..
@haroonk1217 No, I don't, as they've said that in transcripts to me, it doesn't say it on their website anywhere. As long as you have your return address in your labels when you ship. It's fine.

I spoke to the chat agents and as a business seller you need a cert. incorporation and business bank account etc etc. I asked how a sole trader can provide this as they wont be on a companies house. I guess they just said its okay to carry on as a sole trader in the mean time
The major difference of private or business is TAX season! Keep in mind now anything over $600 has to be and will be reported by eBay and you will have to claim them on your 2023 taxes.. with a business account you will have bigger taxes than a private wich will have close to none.. I prefer private

I have plenty of good quality stock , but listing as a private seller you get 80% discount on sellers fees … which is very appealing ! Have a competitor who is smashing eBay with a shop and listing daily and his sales are 15 plus a day
Thanks this was really helpful, so say If I decide to open up an ebay shop on the 25 pounds a month deal, do i have to independently contact HMRC to make sure I pay the right amount of tax, or is this all included when you pay ebay what they ask for? Sorry if that's a stupid question
Ebay won't contact HMRC on your behalf, they don't get involved with that side of things. You would need to open a Government Gateway account if you don't have one already and then find the link to register for tax self-assessment (as self-employed, or whichever type of business you are). This will provide you with a Unique Taxpayer Reference number (UTR). Then you don't have to worry until after the end of the following tax year - in this case, after April 2023, when HMRC will send you a self-assessment tax return to complete. Remember to document all your income and allowable expenses. For example your eBay fees would be an expense that you would deduct on your tax return. And also, it's £25 + VAT so actually £30 a month.

Another great video, Sam. I’ve got a niche I’d like to try (new to selling on eBay) I’ve followed your tips and found 5 items. How many of each item would you recommended purchasing? I was thinking 10 per item to get me going?
I would do 20-25 units of 3 items. In 10, you may not have any buyer issues but within 20 if there are any issues they will be found and you’ll know if it’s a good item to continue with or not.
