It's isolated from the Detroit mix of the album. You can hear that from the guitar at the beginning, which they seem to have removed in the LA mix. It's a nice effect, but the LA mix is for sure better in general (no doubt one of the best mixes of the 70's), so it makes sense that it would sound slightly worse to you.
