Game is waaay too hard for the casuals. A lot people thought it’s an easy story game I have talked with and got their a** beaten up. I love Returnal, Biome 3 is one of the coolest looking levels I have ever seen. As a from software fanboy, I love challenge and Returnal is delivering it with one of the best gameplays and sounds ever. I hope this starts a new genre like demons souls did. I don’t care that casuals where disappointed because it’s not an brain off game with cutscene after cutscene. Gameplay is king and Returnal delivers. But looking someone playing it? No way. Returnal is not that type of Game.
I am a casual gamer. Just started console gaming end of 2018 (I guess my youth on a friend's C-64 does not count). I am bad at FPS using a controller. That is why I quiet Wolfenstein and Doom after a couple of minutes. I hate hard games. They make me quit and never come back. But godammit I love Returnal! Love it so much it took me 89 deaths and about 30 hours to beat the first boss, Phrike. After this kind of training I'm looking forward to killing Ixion with many deaths less. This is not made for casuals. But you have to try it to know if it is for you anyway. Once you're hooked, you (n)ever go back.
@@elijahe7612 you will. I SUCK at games, very rarely venture beyond standard normal difficulty in them and usually have to power-level a souls game to feel comfortable even learning boss patterns. Its a cliche but i promise you it does get easier. It will hold your hand through the improvements while simultaneously kicking your ass to the point you don't even notice you are improving but you definitely are. The skills you pick up improve how you play massively too so don't be put off by struggling at the start. I honestly thought I'd never beat the first boss, then the second boss, then the game itself. All you need is patience (or stubbornness) and approach the game with the knowledge that dying can forward the story and reward you with something intriguing before jumping back in.
Meh. Hades is the baby game for rogue lites. Its like saying "dark souls1, dark souls 3, sekiro and bloodborne are cool...but i wanna see a dark souls 2 review! Thats the one i played and like". I mean its cool you got initiated into the souls series but dks2 is an abomination compared to the other games of the series. So yeah... hades is cool but is it really that good? No, its not. Its just a casual rogue lite so you can take baby steps. Now dont poop your pants.
@@kato093 nice elitist attitude. Hades is a good rogue lite period. It solves a lot of the problems the genre has and at the same time makes it open for new people who never would've played it. And good job just assuming its the first rogue like/lite I've ever played. I've played a ton of them. All of them at a certain point you can just blow through them, Hades with its heat system constantly ups the challenge.
@@jellybean358 to add to this the narrative is much better than any other rogue like I've played, which is a very short list. It's also one of, Imo, the best over all narratives in a game in a while, albeit simplistic but in its implementation. Hades might not be the best in challenge, I think the game play is tight, it's repatitive to a point, as all games in the genre are. Going to say something controversial using @kato093 referenced genre there.... Star Wars Fallen Order is a better game in that genre than the ones listed there, because the narrative is so much better. But by the same regard it's baby steps in terms of challenge in comparison. It's been a while since I watched their review of FO, but if memory serves they liked it, and I feel they would like or love Hades for the same virtues. It's probably one of those ones where Shelby would be more invested and end up putting more time in.
@@kato093 First: bro dark souls 2 is generally accepted as the hardest dark souls game. People don't like ds2 because Miyazaki wasn't involved and the level design was weird not because it was easy. Second: hades is super hard. Just because its accessible and isn't insanely difficult to start doesn't mean its easy. It gives you the option to challenge yourself and rewards it. Beating hades with maximum heat and no death defiance is genuinely one of the most challenging things in a video game I can think of and I've beaten all the souls games to ng+7, and sekiros boss rush mode.
I’m currently on my third try of just the first boss & I swear every time I think I’m leveled up enough, I get mad anxiety thinking about jumping into the pit. But I love that! This was by far the best review I’ve seen of Returnal. Thank you!
While this review is really fun and hilarious, you should watch Skill Up's review of this game. It's one of the best reviews I've seen. Like, ever. Maybe even THE best.
I'm obsessed with everything Returnal and after seeing how good your channel is everywhere for a while I decided to finally cave in and watch one of your videos. I was not disappointed. Subscribed!
I like that she managed to roast all the people that cried under the 2 TLOU2 videos one more time. I guess this means Mauler will make a 5 hours reaction video.
Last of us 2 did suck ass tho 🤣 returnal is actually pretty good at least still not worth 75 bucks tho especially considering all the crashes etc going on
This was not the heel turn I was expecting in 2021. Shelby praising a game where a core mechanic is simply repeating the same map over and over and over and over again. Fighting the same enemies with minimal/gradual story progression. I can't imagine that's a very riveting experience for backseat gaming.
I havent owned a console since PS3. And I've watched several recent comedians stand up routines who at best have gotten a chuckle or two out of me. Also, it's been awhile since I've seen one of your videos. That said, you only get better each time I watch one of your videos. I literally spit my drink out laughing at your jokes in this, and you make me nostalgic for gaming like mad. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your content. How much it means to me. To feel like an old friend, when there are no real ones in my life these days, is invaluable and beyond description. Gratitude just doesn't cut it. Nonetheless, I thank you.
Returnal is worth every penny. By the way you can turn the game off. When you beat bosses it checkpoints and opens up shortcuts. When you die in the middle of a run you can go ahead and turn it off because you lost all your items in death anyway so turn it off. The shortcuts will be there when you turn it back on.
As much as I loved Skyrim and played close to 500 hours, it's really not a good "backseat gamer" type game. Also it's a slower game which may not be their thing.
To be clear, I'm all for players that are way better than I'll ever be but don't be a jerk about it. With regards to the save thing I had my PS5 in rest mode last night and this morning there was an electrical issue in my building so they had to shut the power off. That has zero to do with my abilities of lack thereof.
1. It was a joke, considering this is a joke channel how people don't get the jokes still is just stupid by this point. 2. Don't leave your PS5 on rest mode overnight, PS5 since launch has had rest mode issues we've been warned about by Sony, let alone that "rest" is not "sleep" or "hibernate" its a rest, a break, 3-4 hours maximum, people complaining they leave their PS5 on overnight and get electrical surges with it are again just stupidity at this point.
@@CB-lw7ty I know it’s a joke show. As I said I am a fan. And I also know about the launch rest mode issues but honestly, I have no problems since the updates. Not sure why you have to call my actions stupid tho. Felt uncalled for as I don’t think I was doing any name calling.
Also, look I LOVE Dave Chappelle. One of I think the best comedians of the modern era. But I also think he can be full of it and I can certainly think some jokes are dumb and mean-spirited. Being funny is not a pass. If anything when I love and appreciate someone writing I’m more let down by what I see as low hanging fruit which the little babies thing was. Of course you are totally free to disagree but “can’t you take a joke” is I think missing the point and just seems to imply all jokes are good and valuable. They aren’t some are clunkers.
@@pajamo I agree not all jokes are good and valuable but saying "you don't need to be a jerk about it" implys that you A. didn't get that its a joke and B. that jokes are still jokes, whether you think they are funny or valuable or not is irrelevant, the point is they're throw away comments for a laugh, if it didn't make you laugh, fine, move on, saying "dont be a jerk" then writing a butthurt comment about how you doing something stupid with your console considering you also know about those console issues is as I said, stupid. If you don't want to be called out for doing and saying stupid things, then don't do and say stupid things more than getting defensive because someone's pointing out how stupid it is.
I was totally one of those people who was like "It looks fun but do I want to pay £70 for it?" and then Shelby said "Metroid Prime, Ratchet And Clank, And Doom Eternal" and now my pants are off. Definitely gonna buy it!

@@ag7367 that's fair! I think my expectations skewed a lot of that where I felt Returnal would be whatever and was really surprised, and then I wanted Village to be this tour de force because I love RE4 so much. just didn't click for me.
Of all the games I’ve purchased, this was definitely the best value for money. I bought it for £20 in GAME store pre owned. The brand new copy was £60. I was sceptical and cautious at first. Thought there had to be a catch. I couldn’t understand why none of the staff bought it for themselves. I could literally of bought it and sold it at CEX and made an instant profit. The disc was perfect and I’ve been having a blast with the game. Installed without any issues. Tested the suspension save feature and it worked without any problems. Best bargain I’ve found in a long while. Whilst all my games are relatively new and I’ve only just sampled the others, I can see me spending a lot of time playing this game.

I don’t care that casuals where disappointed because it’s not an brain off game with cutscene after cutscene. Gameplay is king and Returnal delivers. But looking someone playing it? No way. Returnal is not that type of Game.
its hard to learn, but easy to master
Yeah I love videogames but I am absolutely not good at them at all. Returnal looks fun but I legitimately don't think I'll be able to do it.
@Michael Lochlann Agreed, seemed interesting, but I don't have the time to put on the game just to see the story, it's just not worth it.
Mentions a bunch of rogue-likes and then fails to mention Hades.
A grave crime was committed this day.
Yeah i came here to pressure them into reviewing Hades, it's a beautiful rogue like and they will love the narrative

While this review is really fun and hilarious, you should watch Skill Up's review of this game. It's one of the best reviews I've seen. Like, ever. Maybe even THE best.
No shame in using a boss guide! That helped me out a lot with the first boss. Now I’m stuck on the second one lol

This was not the heel turn I was expecting in 2021. Shelby praising a game where a core mechanic is simply repeating the same map over and over and over and over again. Fighting the same enemies with minimal/gradual story progression. I can't imagine that's a very riveting experience for backseat gaming.
Same map?

6:36 Whoa Shelby, calm down 😂
I havent owned a console since PS3.
Wish I wasn’t wearing headphones,The dual sense scream had me jump out of my seat 🤣

As much as I loved Skyrim and played close to 500 hours, it's really not a good "backseat gamer" type game. Also it's a slower game which may not be their thing.
@@jonathansmith3063 but modding is hella fun
There Are Places to save that cost 6 ether though I can't remember what they're called.
Omfg this may be one of my favorite reviews from you two. That “wittle baby” shit had me in tears. God bless the both of you.

I sincerely feel like Returnal was worth every ounce of my $70 and then some (can't stop playing), and tbh Resident Evil Village didn't justify it's $60 price to me.
@@SonicBroham I feel the exact opposite way 😂

All that said, you do keep permanent upgrades when you die and come back, so you might lose up to two hours of progress, until you git gud, then you'll lose what 30 minutes?
I died 115 times, and mostly in biomes 1-3(87 in 1-3, 28 in 4-6 and secret ending). Took me a while to 'get it'.
