    In the east bay of San Francisco, I grow Quinault and Sequoia in a hooped raised bed covered with mesh netting -- it's now Dec 1, and I'm still harvesting nice berries daily! You've helped me figure out what I'm actually doing right! Appreciate all of your tips, especially about removing the straw mulch after harvest! Thanks for sharing.

    3 questions.
    1) What kind of soil and fertilizer do you use?
    2) Do strawberries have to have the sun or can they have a lamp to grow?
    3) How often should I water them?

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sorry this ened up in held for review. I use a granular feed high in potassium and Phosphorus and water them daily. They prefer the sun but will grow under lamps too if you want that route

      Yeah your a few weeks behind the south up there, but if you can grow indoors get them in as they will be protected, the cold is not the issue with them just get them started early :)

    • @sandrat3253
      @sandrat3253 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      im not sure if cold is any obstacle, im in northern ireland, im a very exposed site, we had -10C this winter for 2 weeks and all my strawberries seem to have survived, they are all growing new leaves now. The varieties i have are: malling centenary, el santa, snow white, yellow wonder, cambridge favourite and colossus. Malling centenary tastes the best, snow white is funny coz the birds dont eat it (being white not red) yellow wonder is the kids' favourite coz it tastes literally like bubble gum.

    • @ChristophersMum
      @ChristophersMum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you seem serious about your strawberries, but thanks for the varieties that you have had success with. Yes we too have had quite serious -C's, and because we are quite high up the ground stays colder for longer, but I do start off all my plantings in the tunnel so we can get a head of the good weather to come. However it is forecast for more snow within the next few days, so we shall just have to see what that will bring us. As it is I think that digging will still have to continue, but not staying out for as long.

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sometime you got to know when to stay off the soil. We also got the snow forecast for the weekend, hopefully it doesn't come again, although its prob done the garden good bringing nitrogen and killing off the pests

    Love the subtitles for us ENGLISH that don't get the WELSH accent, LOL. Yes, protect your Strawberries as I grew mine in a tower in a greenhouse and as I thought it was getting a bit too hot in there, left the door ajar far enough for two of my 6 dogs to get in and have a feast. Now, I am growing them under a small Lidl Polytunnel and simply hope for the best. No idea of the variety as they're planted from runners given to me from one of my Bulgarian neighbours and IF I get some before the Cats or the Dogs then, I'm happy. Nice Video, keep them coming. Robert in Bulgaria where it is still too wet and cold to plant anything,
