I understood that feeling with a long time ex of mine. Doing something you used to love to do together, but then feeling so empty and alone while doing it together. It was a very sad feeling while growing apart. I hope the for the best and most absolute healing in people that go through it

They're not angry at each other, they're sad and maybe nostalgic. That truly is the feeling you get from feeling like your relationship with someone is dying. All of my short life I thought they only ever ended explosively, but I now get the feeling that sometimes maybe they end that way so as to avoid this. The flower metaphor, which normally would be considered very romantic, also implies fragility and the eventuality of their breakup in this case, as it always looks delicate and flowers rarely ever survive a human lifetime.
Even my relationships that ended in an explosion had this sad nostalgia of the good days near the end. Realistically you grow and not every relationship is meant to last or be; but looking back I wish I hadn't burned all the bridges I did because ultimately I loved those people and still value the moments I spent with them.
The flower staying red and yellow is a good detail, because the colors didnt mix at all and it portrays the concept of the video very nicely. (For /gens, the concept of the video is basically a relationship not going well, the flower didnt mix meaning they never actually felt happy with eachother. :C, this detail makes me cry.) /edit: mb, it wasnt just the flower also the objects around them!
You really captured the feeling of falling in love, and then falling back out. The emotional hug goodbye and the bench coming back at the end particularly stuck out to me. Really amazing that you could convey these emotions in such a short clip.

I think one of the best parts of this short is the final hug at the end. They knew the relationship was failing, they knew how wilted their flower was, but they didnt blame one another. Instead, they give a final hug, letting themselves go their seperate ways without hatred- and that just makes it so much more sad
If they hated each other afterwards, then it'd be that they both still have a piece in them that still loves the other but refuses it. Since they both accepted it and parted without any words of hate or sadness, they understand their relationship was a good experience and it had to be let go to not hurt themselves.

What I mean is that in the animation, the ramen that was once special lost that charm for both of them because it was then common knowledge that they both enjoyed it. Where they go to “the usual spot,” they should go to a new place neither of them have tried before. Where they both work the same office job, they should find new ways to liven up their work spaces. Real love should feel like a tree with ever expanding roots. The things you love should always be there, but new experiences will dig the roots further into the ground and make your love stronger. If the roots don’t expand as the tree grows taller, it becomes less stable.

This was weirdly recommended to me whilst experiencing this exact story. I’ve felt as if I’ve outgrown my ex, and he’s finding a new place to live so he can start growing on his own. There wasn’t any shouting or screaming , just a passive understanding this was the only way forward after trying everything to make it work. It’s such a painful experience , because the lack of an explosive ending makes you reluctant to breakup. I know if we were to stay together it would just make things harder later. I root for his success in the future and I know he wishes the same for me.

I don't think this is about falling into and out of love. If anything, I see two people falling in love and missing the younger periods of their lives. Sure enough, the flower wilts, but it never leaves until both of them are gone, and the bench is empty. I see this as less of "There's nothing there anymore" and more of "There's still something there, but the passage of time has shaped it into something else" and so they hold onto each other, trying to keep the shape even if the world wants them to be miserable. They share their plights, and confide in each other when there's nothing else. I don't know if this is the wilfully oblivious hopeful me talking, but I think that this is a beautiful reminder that love can change, but still be there. And if this is meant to represent love being lost, then that's beautiful as well. It shows the bench in the first and the last, and the grass empty below it, showing that even if the love isn't there anymore, where it begins may persevere and grow again.

Hi Andyland, I’m sure you probably won’t see this but here it goes anyways. A few weeks ago, I was in the hospital. While I was there I had daily blood samples taken by my assigned phlebotomist. I never did learn her name in the week or so I was there, but she would always distract me with a happy conversation while she drew my blood as she knew I had a massive fear of needles. The first time she took a sample from me, she asked if I liked any TV shows or movies. I responded that I more or less just watched independent TH-cam animations. She was interested, and had never heard of any of the animators I had told her about. The next day she came in and told me she had watched a few of your videos and she loved them. Her favorite was sleepy Tom, but she adored your art style. It wasn’t big, but in a place as bleak as the hospital, cut off from reality, a small bond like that means more than you could imagine and it was your works that let me make that connection in the most unexpected of ways. Thank you for creating a bright spot in the dark.

I think when she cries during the end while she has her favorite meal shows how unsalvageable red's relationship with yellow was. What was once a nice meal between two lovers was bitter and could no longer be enjoyed, kinda like their relationship.

I love how yellow fell first, with the first two petals forming yellow. Then the pot, symbolizing the start of the relationship. Then over time it grows, and the flowers indicate that although yellow fell first, red fell harder, with most of the flower being red. When they are both sleeping, we can see the first petal fall, the yellow one, indicating that yellow was the first to lose feelings. Although everything was falling apart, red still loved yellow, even through their last moments. The white petal at the end symbolizes acceptance, from both parties, and then nothing is left of their relationship. This is just my interpretation of this.
Also when theyre sleeping in bed yellows phone lights up with a red hued screen meaning theres likely another woman hes fallen for and talking to, you can see in his eyes he looks sad/guilty seeing it light up

I don't even know that what popped up on the screen really matters. Sometimes all we want is to remain frozen in a moment of perpetual happiness, but time marches on anyways, the phone chimes and you wake up, it's just what life is. It happens day after day, until things fall out of sync and suddenly you're sitting next to a stranger.

this has the same feeling as New Normal by Jack Stauber, nostalgic and heartbreaking. While his was more focused (in my opinion) on the loss of *life*, with the indirect ways of showing isolation and death, and this being the loss of *love*, with it telling a more direct and to the point story of a love life slowly burning away, with both having almost haunting music to back them that have lyrics tied to the video itself (in Jack’s case, that might be vice versa).

Yeah, well in an online scenario. it's difficult to have one that lets say would stay if your online interests don't align. And you cannot do anything irl because you are that far away. Of coarse you could try doing videos and movies, which I have done. It's just it stopped being a thing. This happens when interests don't align and if there is a lack of affection and attention to either side. Then if it fades away you basically are left by yourself in that scenario. You basically try to make accomplishments in your life. But the lack of someone and if you feel like your life isn't going to be well in the future can make you have a state of mind that can be very bad. Of coarse, you can survive it based off of pure luck or if someone gets you out of it. But yeah, there are things that can happen when you are alone. Which is why you basically CAN only have the mindset to go to a jobcorp or a college depending on how well you did and because of specific situations that put you through that path. Like family. Am I here, yes. Will I be, Probably. Do I know what I like. Yes, but I cannot tell or show it. Stress can give you literal heartburn and so you go through it while your mind keeps burning as you go through life. I claw at my chest sometimes..

Isn't it strange that when Yellow looks down at Red's phone a petal falls off? I think he noticed that Red was talking to someone else, or maybe he saw something she may not have been honest about, but they both try to keep things working. Red tears up later, which looks like regret, so when their relationship eventually grows distant, they couldn't even stay friends, unfortunately.

Relationships can fail for a number of reasons, and one of them is that your relationship can start to feel like a job. Once the "honeymoon phase" is over, the part where you are filled with a kind of giddy joy and wonder in sharing your life with someone, things can start to fall apart a little. Maybe it's because you didn't get to know the person fully, and there are parts of them that actually don't fit so well into your life. Maybe it's that you're both very busy people, and while at first you happened to have matching schedules, suddenly you find yourself having to constantly reorganize your life to fit them in. Maybe it's simply just that while at first you felt passionate, now, you merely feel an obligation. Whatever the case may be, eventually you can reach a point where you're in this relationshop, but it no longer feels self-sustaining; it begins to feel like effort to keep things moving along. In essence, your love for them becomes a kind of "work", a task you have to perform every day, forever, which can slowly drain you of any tender feelings you may have once had. I think it's evident that the people depicted in this video still care for eachother, as they embrace at the end (when they presumably split up), but for whatever reason things just didn't work out. Things stopped feeling natural and started to feel forced, and rather than living together in a way that exahusted both of them, they parted amicably. Does that make sense? I hope so.

not all flowers last forever. even though wildflowers are fleeting does not mean their short time is any less beautiful. trying to keep a plant going past its time is just delaying the inevitable, and can be harmful for the seeds to come down the line, only delaying their proper season.

My boyfriend hates being vulnerable and has a hard time showing emotion in general. He loathes too much physical contact if he can't look at his phone and scroll at the same time. I once asked a counselor for help and she said he sounded like her husband who was diagnosed with autism. And, it all clicked for me somehow. I no longer feel like we're drifting apart or falling out of love and (whether or not he's autistic) just recognizing that he works different than me and shows love different than me helps me through the ebb and flow of our relationship. But, we broke up several times before that realization due to these constant feelings like the relationship had just run its course. It made me feel a lot like this. I remember having meals together or lying in bed together and crying because I couldn't understand and he didn't have the words to explain it to me.
I’m autistic, and it really is hard for us to put how we feel into words, but I’m glad you’re sticking with him. I tend to show more traits, despite trying to mask it up, so no matter how hard I try I’m alienated, and miserable. What I find really interesting is that we tend to be extreme on a lot of things, either “I love this so much” or “oh my god this is disgusting”, not particular reason why, but personally I just wish I could have someone hold me and tell me I’m not gross and that I’m special, sorry for kinda turning this into me pitying myself, but what I’m trying to get at is that I’m glad that he found someone who respects him, quirks or not, so that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore. This video resonates with me on a personal level and pops up every couple months or so. It reminds me of all the good times I've had but also that it wasn't meant to last. I loved those years yet I don't yearn for them to return. Those last days were sad but we also accepted it. After the end I was sad but also relieved. this hits me especially hard. The person im most afraid to loose seems to be drifting away already and this breaks my heart a little more. We would often draw together since our best interest was arts, and he loved this silly character I drew everywhere that was supposed to portray me. I coloured it with yellow and a red outline. As we grew closer and closer, I made a character for him that was red and had a yellow outline. I said he was a part of me. He used to draw his character and my character together and always sent me a picture and god it made me so so happy when I was feeling down. I don’t receive these pictures anymore and I’ve stopped drawing my character. Thank you for this, the colours made me remember.

I used to love someone like this. We started out as friends, then close friends, then lovers, and then ended as strangers. We used to do a lot of things together. We watched the same shows, ate each others favorite food, played games together. I remember she used to tell me how much she loved to listen to coldplay even if I wasn't a big fan of it. Eventually I started listening to her favorite songs, her favorite albums, I even played random coldplay songs to see her reaction about it, all because I wanted to see her happy. She would smile whenever she saw me being genuine about it. I learned to love those songs because I loved seeing her all excited and cute about it. But now, those songs will never sound the same to me again.

The flower staying red and yellow is a good detail, because the colors didnt mix at all and it portrays the concept of the video very nicely. (For /gens, the concept of the video is basically a relationship not going well, the flower didnt mix meaning they never actually felt happy with eachother. :C, this detail makes me cry.) /edit: mb, it wasnt just the flower also the objects around them!

I think one of the best parts of this short is the final hug at the end. They knew the relationship was failing, they knew how wilted their flower was, but they didnt blame one another. Instead, they give a final hug, letting themselves go their seperate ways without hatred- and that just makes it so much more sad

What I mean is that in the animation, the ramen that was once special lost that charm for both of them because it was then common knowledge that they both enjoyed it. Where they go to “the usual spot,” they should go to a new place neither of them have tried before. Where they both work the same office job, they should find new ways to liven up their work spaces. Real love should feel like a tree with ever expanding roots. The things you love should always be there, but new experiences will dig the roots further into the ground and make your love stronger. If the roots don’t expand as the tree grows taller, it becomes less stable.
I don’t think it’s routine though, when they are asleep together, the red ones phone turns on and when the yellow guy looks at it, the flower starts to die

This was weirdly recommended to me whilst experiencing this exact story. I’ve felt as if I’ve outgrown my ex, and he’s finding a new place to live so he can start growing on his own. There wasn’t any shouting or screaming , just a passive understanding this was the only way forward after trying everything to make it work. It’s such a painful experience , because the lack of an explosive ending makes you reluctant to breakup. I know if we were to stay together it would just make things harder later. I root for his success in the future and I know he wishes the same for me.

I don't think this is about falling into and out of love. If anything, I see two people falling in love and missing the younger periods of their lives. Sure enough, the flower wilts, but it never leaves until both of them are gone, and the bench is empty. I see this as less of "There's nothing there anymore" and more of "There's still something there, but the passage of time has shaped it into something else" and so they hold onto each other, trying to keep the shape even if the world wants them to be miserable. They share their plights, and confide in each other when there's nothing else.
I don't know if this is the wilfully oblivious hopeful me talking, but I think that this is a beautiful reminder that love can change, but still be there.
And if this is meant to represent love being lost, then that's beautiful as well. It shows the bench in the first and the last, and the grass empty below it, showing that even if the love isn't there anymore, where it begins may persevere and grow again.

Hi Andyland, I’m sure you probably won’t see this but here it goes anyways. A few weeks ago, I was in the hospital. While I was there I had daily blood samples taken by my assigned phlebotomist. I never did learn her name in the week or so I was there, but she would always distract me with a happy conversation while she drew my blood as she knew I had a massive fear of needles. The first time she took a sample from me, she asked if I liked any TV shows or movies. I responded that I more or less just watched independent TH-cam animations. She was interested, and had never heard of any of the animators I had told her about. The next day she came in and told me she had watched a few of your videos and she loved them. Her favorite was sleepy Tom, but she adored your art style. It wasn’t big, but in a place as bleak as the hospital, cut off from reality, a small bond like that means more than you could imagine and it was your works that let me make that connection in the most unexpected of ways. Thank you for creating a bright spot in the dark.

I think when she cries during the end while she has her favorite meal shows how unsalvageable red's relationship with yellow was. I love how yellow fell first, with the first two petals forming yellow. Then the pot, symbolizing the start of the relationship. Then over time it grows, and the flowers indicate that although yellow fell first, red fell harder, with most of the flower being red. When they are both sleeping, we can see the first petal fall, the yellow one, indicating that yellow was the first to lose feelings. Although everything was falling apart, red still loved yellow, even through their last moments. The white petal at the end symbolizes acceptance, from both parties, and then nothing is left of their relationship. This is just my interpretation of this.
I also want to add the the drifting apart could be because of a lack of spending time, as shown with the separated work desks.
And how the first pedal immediately fell after yellow’s screen lit up and he looked at it. Maybe yellow’s focus started to move on from red

I don't even know that what popped up on the screen really matters. Sometimes all we want is to remain frozen in a moment of perpetual happiness, but time marches on anyways, the phone chimes and you wake up, it's just what life is. Yeah, well in an online scenario. it's difficult to have one that lets say would stay if your online interests don't align. And you cannot do anything irl because you are that far away. Of coarse you could try doing videos and movies, which I have done. It's just it stopped being a thing. This happens when interests don't align and if there is a lack of affection and attention to either side. Then if it fades away you basically are left by yourself in that scenario.
You basically try to make accomplishments in your life. But the lack of someone and if you feel like your life isn't going to be well in the future can make you have a state of mind that can be very bad. Of coarse, you can survive it based off of pure luck or if someone gets you out of it. But yeah, there are things that can happen when you are alone. Which is why you basically CAN only have the mindset to go to a jobcorp or a college depending on how well you did and because of specific situations that put you through that path. Like family.
Am I here, yes. Will I be, Probably. Do I know what I like. Yes, but I cannot tell or show it. Stress can give you literal heartburn and so you go through it while your mind keeps burning as you go through life. I claw at my chest sometimes..

Isn't it strange that when Yellow looks down at Red's phone a petal falls off? I think he noticed that Red was talking to someone else, or maybe he saw something she may not have been honest about, but they both try to keep things working. Red tears up later, which looks like regret, so when their relationship eventually grows distant, they couldn't even stay friends, unfortunately.

Relationships can fail for a number of reasons, and one of them is that your relationship can start to feel like a job. Once the "honeymoon phase" is over, the part where you are filled with a kind of giddy joy and wonder in sharing your life with someone, things can start to fall apart a little.
Maybe it's because you didn't get to know the person fully, and there are parts of them that actually don't fit so well into your life. Maybe it's that you're both very busy people, and while at first you happened to have matching schedules, suddenly you find yourself having to constantly reorganize your life to fit them in. Maybe it's simply just that while at first you felt passionate, now, you merely feel an obligation.
Whatever the case may be, eventually you can reach a point where you're in this relationshop, but it no longer feels self-sustaining; it begins to feel like effort to keep things moving along. In essence, your love for them becomes a kind of "work", a task you have to perform every day, forever, which can slowly drain you of any tender feelings you may have once had.
I think it's evident that the people depicted in this video still care for eachother, as they embrace at the end (when they presumably split up), but for whatever reason things just didn't work out. My boyfriend hates being vulnerable and has a hard time showing emotion in general. He loathes too much physical contact if he can't look at his phone and scroll at the same time. I once asked a counselor for help and she said he sounded like her husband who was diagnosed with autism. And, it all clicked for me somehow. I no longer feel like we're drifting apart or falling out of love and (whether or not he's autistic) just recognizing that he works different than me and shows love different than me helps me through the ebb and flow of our relationship. But, we broke up several times before that realization due to these constant feelings like the relationship had just run its course. It made me feel a lot like this. I remember having meals together or lying in bed together and crying because I couldn't understand and he didn't have the words to explain it to me.

Hey AndyLand, I wanted to express how much this short means to me. I just broke up with my girlfriend today. I’m in so much pain and sadness, because I never realized that what was once a constant in my life would suddenly be gone, possibly forever. this hits me especially hard. The person im most afraid to loose seems to be drifting away already and this breaks my heart a little more. We would often draw together since our best interest was arts, and he loved this silly character I drew everywhere that was supposed to portray me. I coloured it with yellow and a red outline. As we grew closer and closer, I made a character for him that was red and had a yellow outline. I said he was a part of me. He used to draw his character and my character together and always sent me a picture and god it made me so so happy when I was feeling down. I don’t receive these pictures anymore and I’ve stopped drawing my character.

I used to love someone like this. We started out as friends, then close friends, then lovers, and then ended as strangers. We used to do a lot of things together. We watched the same shows, ate each others favorite food, played games together. I remember she used to tell me how much she loved to listen to coldplay even if I wasn't a big fan of it. Eventually I started listening to her favorite songs, her favorite albums, I even played random coldplay songs to see her reaction about it, all because I wanted to see her happy. She would smile whenever she saw me being genuine about it. I learned to love those songs because I loved seeing her all excited and cute about it. But now, those songs will never sound the same to me again.
