New oil brushes have been added since this video was made! The Thick Flat Oil & Thick Round Oil shown in this video now have the suffix "Harsh Edges" and new blending versions have been added.
Thank you sooo much for these! Absolutely stunning results. I have a question about the oil paint brushes. I have the new set with the “harsh edges”, I’m not getting that 3D look with mine…still looks somewhat soft and the darkened edges are not appearing very much at all. I’ve tried different pressures and tilts but it doesn’t make a difference. Is it possible that my iPad age could be the problem? It’s a first generation iPad Pro 12” with the first generation pencil. I understand the newer iPads are treating black differently. The look I’m going for is that thick, oily paint look and it looks more like the acrylic on mine. Thanks again! I’m having a blast with this set and the ink set. 😊
Thanks for your purchase, I'm glad you like the brushes! I actually still have my old 1st gen iPad pro 12" and 1st gen pencil, so I just did a little test to see whether the brush looks different on that iPad, and though there is some lag, I can't see any other difference between the new and old iPads on these particular brushes, so that iPad shouldn't be a problem. I sent out a free update to the "Harsh Edges" brushes 6 days ago on July 14 - if you bought them after this date or downloaded the update (sent via email), you have the latest version, but otherwise I think that the update should help you so please drop me a message at hello@alainajensen.com so I can make sure you get your free updated versions of these brushes.

Hello! I just bought these brushes and I’m excited to work with them. I’m having the same issue I saw a few others mention- that the brushes don’t have the same dark edges and texture like it shows in the video. I used the harsh edges vs soft, etc. I’m fact I went through all the brushes and none of them had this effect. Is there any other setting I’m missing?
Alaina, thank you for this! Your brushes are THE best and I’m excited every time you come out with new products. I am creative but, I don’t consider myself an artist. At long last! My search is over. You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for these, this kind of brush strokes. I actually started to think it was impossible to make these for Procreate. They are stunning and you are so so talented. You have made my dreams come true! Thank you.
Thank you so much Hilda, it really means a lot that you say that! Procreate is definitely very tricky with this type of media but it's such a great app otherwise! I'm really glad that you like the brushes, thanks os much for your kind comment.
Just bought this set and their brilliant brushes. The canvas textures and colour palettes are very nice too! Perfect for traditional looking digital art. Thanks for making this set👍

@@AlainaJensen it’s a pleasure! The only brush I really think is missing in your set is a hard edge palette knife. I’m trying to figure out how to modify the existing Palette knife brush which is my favorite brush into a hard edge one.
@@thatchipmunksings Thanks for this feedback, I will add it to a list in case I do an update! As I recall, when I was making the brushes, the flat palette knife was a bit difficult due to the way the Procreate wet mix properties copy the image and drags it out, which looks a bit funny unless there is more movement. Will definitely add it to the list to explore again anther time though.
I’ve just bought your 2020 &2021 Bundles and I’m really enjoying playing around with them. This video was a great introduction to what your painterly set can do. I’m inspired now to get some paint on the canvas ❤️

As someone who has made literally thousands of Photoshop brushes it's interesting to be reminded of how much Photoshop's brush engine is lacking. These brushes look pretty amazing!! Needless to say I'll be buying them, I love supporting other brush makers. Now I just need to look at all the other brushes that you offer. Sadly I never really fully grasped Procreate's brush engine the same way I have Photoshop. There's a bunch of settings that I'm unsure of, such as the different glazes and renderings.
Thanks so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it! That's so true about the differences between the Photoshop and Procreate brush engines. Something I admire about Procreate is that they haven't just gone and copied Photoshop, they really put a lot of research and thought into the brush engine and made something that is different in a lot of ways. Which is why it's so difficult to just translate a brush set from one format to another. There are definitely strengths and weaknesses to both but I feel like there are more possibilities with Procreate, because of the exponential combinations and settings when experimenting. It's like a candy shop to me 🤩
@@AlainaJensen anytime! I think you inspired to give Procreate's brush engine another chance with regards to making my own brushes! Yes, both have their pros and cons. I wish Photoshop would add the innovation that Procreate and ArtStudio Pro have added to their brush engines. For example, both have a ton of different ootions with regards to applying the pattern to the brush, such as 'movement' pattern angle, etc. None of which is in Photoshop. One huge draw back of Photoshop is Performance. The only brushes that dynamically blend are mixer brushes, yet a bunch of brush settings are disabled for them such as dual brush. Which is hugely limiting. One thing Photoshop does really well though is faking watercolor like effects using dual brush. Watercolor brushes really can look wet while using them. Keep up the amazing brushes! :)
Alaina, thank you for creating these wonderful brushes. I’m really enjoying using them! Also, I’ve watched a number of your tutorials. You really have a nice teaching style. So if you test with those two they should look the same as the ones in the video, I hope that helps!
I'm so glad I saw this video. I just bought these brushes today and have been looking for oil brushes that will give me the textures I was looking for. I'd like to know how you got the thick oil strokes that you have on your cover? It was the one on the left hand side and it is in dark green color.
Thank you so much! The dark green on the left is a brush called "Choppy Strokes" near the beginning of the brush list, I often use this one to splash color down and then nudge and blend the edges with surrounding colors using the palette knives with the smudge tool. I have a new tutorial video coming next week showing that process with this particular brush.
Those brushed look incredible but I wonder if you can post a video of an actual painting? Because I would like to see the kind of result you can get with them. I know you have some videos already posted but I wonder if you can do something more complex than a flower, something more "in depth". Thank you and congratulations for your work

Thanks so much! Hi Alaina, thanks for your video! I just downloaded your brushes i have juste one question. Why does the color randomly changes when i use the acrylic brushes, it's a bit hard to make an actual realistic painting when the color suddenly changes. Ty
Hi Thomas, thanks for your purchase! The color variation is meant to emulate dynamic color mixing that happens as you paint, but if you don't like it you can just turn it off by tapping the brush, going to color dynamics and then moving all the sliders to 0. Or you can email me at hello@alainajensen.com and I can send you a version where I have done that for you :D
Hello Alaina and thank you so much for this introduction to your amazing brushes! I have a question- where can I get those colour palettes that you have in this video? Is is an additional product that I could buy somewhere or did you create each pallet for yourself from scratch? Thanks a lot, Vlada.
Hi Vlada! The Painterly brush set comes with two brush folders (which have the extension .brushset) and 9 Swatches files which are shown in the video. All these files should be within your download folder and can all be loaded into Procreate in the same way, so that you do not have to make any color palettes from scratch. When you load the colors, they should show up at the bottom of your palettes list. I hope that helps?
Hi, I have a question. I want to use procreate to paint from art oil painting tutorials. Here is the problem. The artist tells me to get a large filbert. How can I translate your brushes into regular oil brushes? Thanks!🥰
Hi Georgia! My brushes are not meant as 1-1 translations of specific types of real life brushes, but I do have flat and round versions so in this case I believe one of the flat brushes from the set would be the best match. When it comes to sizes, you can change the size slider on the left to roughly match the size that the artist in the tutorial is using.
Hi Denis, I do not currently own an M2 iPad so I couldn't say from experience - the difference between the two will be how many layers your document can have at large canvas sizes, so if you're planning to make super complex, high resolution drawings with lots of layers, the 16gb will give you the maximum flexibility with that. However I'm sure the 8gb will be great as well.
