At 36 minutes into the video, the hammer as you called it, the small end looks like a hydraulically operated 'plate dog', which clamps onto the edge of a plate, or the flange or web of an 'H-beam' or some other flange, to remove or install it, but this can also be used to vibrate to sink the steel in the bottom of the river. The plate dogs I've used in the past are only mechanical units, and not hydraulically operated. It's fascinating to see how things work, to get a job done.
