I have always loved Captain Beefheart, and I still listen to him at 69. Thanks for the video.

You dont know how weird things were High school in the 60's in Calverton MD, until you remember someone in the neighborhood had a copy of trout mask replica (how did that happen)? Since the early Zappa LP's were only selling 10 to 20 thousand each at the time, yet somehow we had them too, Beefheart naturally followed due to his relationship with Zappa and his sales were even less than Zappa. Trout mask had a impact unlike anything else, we could recite from memory, long sections of difficult lyrics, really got into it. Although I do like lick my decals off and mirror man I could not put them ahead of Clear Spot or Trout Mask....,but its all great stuff, ready and waiting for the crazy little things of future generations to discover. Thanks for the trip back.

Love Captain Beefheart, have all his albums, some on CD and even cassette. Plus, have posters, original artwork by Don, and even his bandmates, along with of-course many a books! In addition, to seeing him perform 4 times!

I’ve been meaning to do a Captain Beefheart ranking video. It is hard to get through all the albums.

I actually like Moonbeams and Blue Jeans. Nothing wrong with standard rock music. If it was someone else I think people would rate it better.

This is my list and these are my personal favourites, not saying they're objectively the best. Shiny Beast was the first album I got of Beefheart's basically when it was released and I loved it straight away and i have continued to love it to this day. The use of percussion and Trombone gives it a rich texture and I find the later Magic Band albums have a happier more fulfilled atmosphere to them. But I basically love all the albums even down to Blue Jeans and Strictly Personal when I'm in the right mood, but Mirror Man just sounds like a messy jam, the only one that I don't enjoy listening to. Unconditionally Guaranteed makes me happy, I find it thoroughly charming. Trout Mask I recognise that it was a break through album and I love it, but I just don't enjoy listening to it as much as some of the others. Safe as Milk is an amazing debut. Bat Chain Puller is put quite low because of the double up material, it feels kind of drier that the later albums, it is good though.
