Freddie also recorded this song in 1989 when he was no longer performing live due to his illness. Brian and Roger decided to include it on the ‘Made in Heaven’ album which was released in 1995. The song (written by Brian) was about his break-up with his wife.. and his love for his (now) wife, Anita Dobson. You would enjoy hearing it sung by Freddie too - with his voice sounding somewhat frail.. the words took on a whole different meaning than it did coming from Brian (IMO). Great reaction.. as always!!

This is one of the best ballads ever, not only from the 80’s, but ever. Fck I love this song 🔥

Thanks for giving this song this attention. Brian doesn't get enough credit as a vocalist because of his singular guitar playing, and because he spent so much of his career on stage next to Freddie. His performance of it as a duet with Luciano Pavarotti is also amazing. Luciano could have recorded this and it would have been wonderful for him too.

Excellent. This is a criminally underrated gem! Dr. Sir Brian has such a beautiful, incredibly underrated singing voice. His grief, anguish and inner turmoil at the time is clear in his face (especially his eyes) and his voice, he just bares his soul. Fun fact, he sings lead on several Queen tracks including '"39", "long away", "some day, one day", "good company", "sleeping on the sidewalk", "all dead, all dead" and "sail away sweet sister" among others. He also shared vocals with Freddie for "who wants to live forever" and "I want it all". Dr. Sir Brian's solo work is also fantastic. Over the past few years, he's remastered and rereleased his solo albums "Back to the light", "Another world" and "Star Fleet project".

so glad to see someone react to this treasure. Usually they react to Freddies' version (which is incredible also) but Brian wrote this and Brian performs this beautifully. He is still rockin in his 70's.

You can literally see the pain on Brian’s face in this video. Grappling with the loss of his marriage, loss of his father and the loss of Freddie pushed him near the edge. So thankful he worked his way through it.

The most painful moment in this video for me is the picture on the refrigerator that says Daddy. Gawd, that kills me every time. This is Brian's personal story and while Queen did also record this song, and Freddie is great with it, when Brian sings it, you can feel how it is tearing him apart and you can even see it in his face and in his eyes. Ever since his first marriage started to crumble, there has been an emptiness in his eyes that was never there before. I believe it comes from him losing the right to live with his children. Being a husband and a father was Brian's greatest joy in life, but life on the road is hard and it takes its toll as it did for Brian.

The death of Freddie, & his father, the crumbling of his marriage, & his attraction to Anita Dobson, definately too much to deal with...

thanks, Fable.. I don't think Brian ever got credit for his vocals...He said once that in the band, everyone agreed that "everything sounds better when Freddie sings it.." But in reality, either Brian or Roger could have vocally fronted their own bands... appreciate your reaction to my favorite version of this one... hope your listen to more...a beautiful song he had on a solo album after Freddie passed finally was made into video when he visited the space observatory on Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain (b/c of course as a doctor of astronomy... right?).. I hope you check this out when you have time & inclination... th-cam.com/video/rJI_CkHJ9Z0w/w-d-xo.htmlas filmed w

The song reflected the breakdown of May's first marriage and attraction to his future wife, Anita Dobson . (damn roses are not for destroying)
