Superb tennis. Sluiter is an unknown master of the two-handed forehand and tennis. Funny the dude plays two-handed both sides while still having amazing silky smooth touch on the net and nice slices.

Yes, after seeing him hit with pace from the baseline it was very surprising seeing his touch and creativity.

Beautiful tennis from both. The reason why Federer is so loved because he plays the tennis that people want to watch. The Mozart.of the men's game.

Thanks for this upload. I love seeing the matches I didn't get a chance to see in these years, especially against guys I've never even heard of like Sluiter. Two hands off both sides is weird, but he had all the shots and knew how to use the whole court. I also can't get enough of watching Federer in his young, athletic days figuring out how to win while making the game look incredibly beautiful.

Only player I know of these days, who’s mildly well known, is the crafty and tenacious Su-Wei Hsieh. But this guy Sluiter is like her with a better physicality, attacking slice and strong serve.

Fed serves ace after losing baseline rally at 5-4 in third set. I knew it was coming before he hit it. Boss move

wikipedia says Sluiter achieved "limited success". well, it looks like he pushed the GOAT to the absolute limit. seems pretty successful to me!

Sluiter looked really good in this match. how come he didn't achieve more in his career? his biography does not mention any injuries...

      Lack of mentality

In my opinion, his mentality was not even half that bad. He did miss out on some weapons if I remember correctly

Obscure rule banned hitting two-handed from both wings. 😄

Who is this Sluiter guy and why haven’t I heard about him until now? He’s amazing!!!

He is the coach now from Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands.

First I've heard of him as well, and I am impressed with his play in this match. Other than a relatively weak-looking serve, he could hit with power, find angles, and create opportunities in many ways. Maybe he lacked mental toughness? Great shotmaking, though.

WOW! Obv Federer is Federer but Sluitier was impressive! Sort of reminds me of Fabrice Santoro. Sluitier took on Federer on a fast court when he was becoming Federer and he had his own.

Is having 2 doublehand-backhands considered cheating?

In the early 2000s there were 2 tennis players with two handed forehands in the top 100, Sluiter and Jean Michael Gambill. Gambill had more success, made it to some masters finals. He later came out as gay after retirement.

Two hands forehand, the ugliest hit in tennis

Worked for Monika Seles, not so much for Sluiter and JM Gambill.

@@vladimirjeremic6536 apparently, the best two hand forehand hit EVER was pancho Segura's un then 40s and 50s....
