normally i mostly listen to bands like Metallica Megadeth and Rage Against the Machine, but lately ive been listening to Tool, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. AND ITS AWESOME. i like being somewhat diverse with my music.
All of seventeen Eyes a purple green Treated like a Queen, she was On borrowed self esteem She would do a dance A painful masquerade Spinning you into her web Along her vain parade In her uniform Studded brass and steel Kissing lipstick, napkin stains And smearing sincerity Along her vain parade Along her veins Time crept up on her She's early gray Her reflection looks concerned As flowers hit her grave
Pretty good song. Glad the new compilation is coming out. I have Super Unknown and Badmotorfinger. Those are both great albums. Early Soundgarden i have not heard much of.
many great band's first releases contain some of their best output (until the record company gets ahold of you &demands you 'go pop' or else you'll never make it in the biz.... whatever). case in point right here. this tune totally turned my concept, of what the "seattle grunge" scene was all about, on its head. i mean, who else way doing anything like this at the time? love the use of time signatures, the sonic textures (heavy in-your-face alongside with the ethereal) progressive grunge? ;)
@Rumpelstilzchen21 And we need it desperately. When I saw Pearl Jam live in November, I saw pure rock and roll and love for music. A crowd of people moved by music. We need the 90's BACK!
@BookerDayton I can look at Dave grohl and Paul McCartney they are living legends nirvana and garden are awesome and lol at someone saying down on the upside sucks that album is awesome
The vocals sound better in the remastered version, for example, the part from 1:33-1:36 sounds awful here but it was improved. The music track sounds way better in this one though, it sounds more gritty and more distorted, which is how it should be.
I can see a lot of people are wondering why Chris Cornell sounds so different than in his later work. As a professional audio engineer and a huge Soundgarden fan myself, I can confidently say that the recording and mastering engineers, along with the producer simply didn't know what to do with Chris Cornell's signature vocal rasp. They covered it up by stacking heavy reverb and delay and mixed his vocal track(s) behind the guitars and added a nasty reverb to the master (or recorded this in one room with the entire band with a few reinforcement mics on each instrument). Consider that along with the band still being in its early development, and you have a really good song for its time (it singlehandedly destroyed 80's butt rock) but a horrible recording.
Yes but he also smoked for a number of years and he was at his peak in the 80's and 90's, but eventually unable to reach those highs or vocal belt like he used to. His voice was unreal back in the early days.
It's the video itself- the audio encoding is horrible, but the actual production work was fairly solid. I think Chris thought it was too clean, if I remember correctly.
I lived in Austin when this came out was considered punk not metal this record came out on punk label I thought it was one of the best songs of that year
@XxRoflsaurus93 lol when someone puts studio version in the tittle all it means is the song is the same as the album version there is no difference. This is the ''Actual song'' that was recorded in the studio that is on the album. :o)
The ones who really latched on to that term were those who had ripped jeans, Doc Martens, and plaid shirts to sell you, and record company executives with (usually shitty and derivative) CDs to sell you.
Perhaps by the sound, but Helmet at least remained far from Soundgarden by sound after this period to go into more nu metal and rhythmic metal. This does sound like Helmet from say 1990 or 1992.
@KiteFlyingVespa don't get a new one cause it always does.... they always just get stolen cause A-sides is the best album ever.... especially the last 10 tracks or so...
Totally better Soundgarden. I thought i didn't like them because all i heard from them was their shits. I mean hits. Didn't know they actually had good songs until i listened to their first album.
Favorite soundgarden song. That chorus is too good.
it has a chorus? lmao
@@Hejirah I agree with your implication that it doesn't really have a chorus.
The intro guitar is kim blowing on the strings while he had a nice feedback going.
I thought he was just full strumming dadgad tuning
I think that this sounds good. The raw sound just pleases my ears.
Gnarly. The only word I can think of to describe this
+Kampfer Kobalt That is sufficient
R. Craig true that bro
wow...brings back so many good times....!!!! It was a awesome time when Seattle Sounds was all around!!! miss it.
For those that says Soundgarden isn't metal.
It's a Black Sabbath vibe that seems to go over the heads of a lot contemporary fans
They aren’t, they are grunge
@@Chaplin1219 well if this sound is not metal it is pretty similar
That riff is pure grunge. I know about music and don’t need a lesson.
More metal than your mom!
RIP Chris. The man who influenced my love for music so much when I was growing up.
The first Soundgarden song I heard. I immediately bought the album. That was 30 years ago. Holy shit! I'm old.
Killer rif!
RIP God Father of Grunge Music
Rest In Peace to one of the greatest lead singers in rock history, rest in heaven with Kobain, Weiland
We must protect at all costs Eddie Veller
Franchesco Jara you mean Vedder? And yes i totally agree
normally i mostly listen to bands like Metallica Megadeth and Rage Against the Machine, but lately ive been listening to Tool, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. AND ITS AWESOME. i like being somewhat diverse with my music.
Awesome, Simply awesome.
This riff amazing!
All of seventeen
Eyes a purple green
Treated like a Queen, she was
On borrowed self esteem
She would do a dance
A painful masquerade
Spinning you into her web
Along her vain parade
In her uniform
Studded brass and steel
Kissing lipstick, napkin stains
And smearing sincerity
Along her vain parade
Along her veins
Time crept up on her
She's early gray
Her reflection looks concerned
As flowers hit her grave
Marco Dias Now she's back, she no longer looks the same. Here comes a sweet sunshower rain down and now she's black.
Rebecca Megan Grey
I know a girl just like her
Marco Dias Nice! Good job, thanks
And many nice flowers continued to bloom around her grave!
the intro sounds heavenly
This was always my favorite song by Soundgarden, hold on tight.
Pretty good song. Glad the new compilation is coming out. I have Super Unknown and Badmotorfinger. Those are both great albums. Early Soundgarden i have not heard much of.
I have always known about this song, but I never remember it sounding this good!
I love this song!!
i dont know why but i love the way it sounds!!
INCREDIBLE!!!
If they would just remaster this album my life would be complete.
penguinman06 you're in luck
penguinman06 its coming out next month.
the bbc recording for this kicks so much ass man

freakin badass man!

RIP Chris 💗💗💗 you.
Ahh.. reminds me of the old college days.
I like this version better 💗
What things could they do to make it more heavy? None. None more heavy.
Perhaps release the single with a black album cover.
@Rumpelstilzchen21 And we need it desperately. When I saw Pearl Jam live in November, I saw pure rock and roll and love for music. A crowd of people moved by music. We need the 90's BACK!
I love almost everything I've heard from the 'Garden. They are the Zeppelin of the 90s ... only, better.
R.I.P Chris we & miss you so much #Gonebutforgotten #GrungeGod #Grungelives
this was the only song of the concert i didn't recognize. never again!
RIP a legend..
Too damn awesome
That riff
@BookerDayton I can look at Dave grohl and Paul McCartney they are living legends nirvana and garden are awesome and lol at someone saying down on the upside sucks that album is awesome

He said he'd be crazy not to ever try to do solo work. He learned a lot from that journey.
Agreed.
Yes but he also smoked for a number of years and he was at his peak in the 80's and 90's, but eventually unable to reach those highs or vocal belt like he used to. His voice was unreal back in the early days.
You're so awesome Adam Kacho if only they had you they might have become something
@upabovechoices To me All their albums are the best. I love listening to Badmotorfinger, Ultramega OK, and Louder than Love.
It's the video itself- the audio encoding is horrible, but the actual production work was fairly solid. I think Chris thought it was too clean, if I remember correctly.
Glad I'm not alone :D
CHRIS O'DONNEL THE GENIUS; HIS VOICE ATCHES THE GREATEST OF ALL-TIME; EARLY ROBERT PLANT
Marc Domicello But he was a laughably bad Robin in the Batman & Robin movie.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell, You will be missed.
I know soundgarden makes a lot of good songs but this track is fucking rad!
I lived in Austin when this came out was considered punk not metal this record came out on punk label I thought it was one of the best songs of that year
the only thing i don't like about this song is quality....
i hope they remaster this well
Soundgarden is hard rock, metal, punk rock, rock, before they hit the Superunknown album.
Fucking metal!
RIP Chris
@XxRoflsaurus93 lol when someone puts studio version in the tittle all it means is the song is the same as the album version there is no difference. This is the ''Actual song'' that was recorded in the studio that is on the album. :o)
I prefer this version than the original tbh
The ones who really latched on to that term were those who had ripped jeans, Doc Martens, and plaid shirts to sell you, and record company executives with (usually shitty and derivative) CDs to sell you.
MOAR WINDCHIMES!
you my friend are listening to ALL THE BEST BANDS!! try out some pantera if you like, its alil more heavy, but still great
@TheSkankat you should listen to the incessant mace demo
Her reflection looks concerned
As flowers hit her grave
Lyrics as dark and haunting as the melodies
My A-Sides album disappeared and I'm still upset about it...
@yookoke112 Have you heard the BBC studio session version? its 100% better quality
WHY CANT I FIND THE VERSION FROM THE MUSIC VIDEO
good song, but the production quality is awful....Soundgarden should remaster that album....
@draven65 Yupp
shut up enjoy the music!!!!!
Helmet was obviously highly influenced by this song.
Perhaps by the sound, but Helmet at least remained far from Soundgarden by sound after this period to go into more nu metal and rhythmic metal. This does sound like Helmet from say 1990 or 1992.
me!
@AceofSaintcanard84 Lol, I was actually kidding, but okay.
@KiteFlyingVespa don't get a new one cause it always does.... they always just get stolen cause A-sides is the best album ever.... especially the last 10 tracks or so...
@draven65 hey me too :D
lol
Did anyone else come based on the Facebook page?
2 people prefer chris cornell's solo album 'Scream'
You're right it the fucking awesome sound!
Who fucking cares?
Totaly different soundgarden than what i here, seriously does not even sound like Chris Cornell i think
Totally better Soundgarden. I thought i didn't like them because all i heard from them was their shits. I mean hits. Didn't know they actually had good songs until i listened to their first album.
yes, i prefer this chris cornell, not the chris cornell that made "scream"
the led zeppelin of grunge.
pigsfood27 The Soundgarden of Grunge. They stand alone. I can't compare. I love you Chris!!
grunge, grunge, grunge. moved away from it a bit later.
@doctorHOUSE scream wasnt that bad
This song kinda reminds me of 'Paradise City' by GnR. This is like the sad version of that song.
That's not the Seatle sound!!!!
niPPELs are not hard? achen kein ein rufe mas aul topfkv mein ninger ka ashult
Very shoegaze.
Take me down to a paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
