Bear in mind this is a comparison against an anti-glare screen protector, it's not the same as the official etched glass used on the 1TB Steam Deck models. This video serves to prove that even a gloss screen with a matte screen protector is still beneficial and that the official etched 1TB models will give even better image clarity. I'll try to contact Valve to see if they want to provide a 1TB model for us to repeat this test with but I couldn't justify purchasing 2 Steam Decks!
Doe you have the Boe or Samsung OLED? There isnt a video yet on the difference, but BOE looks better from this article, or google"How to check Steam Deck OLED screen type" to get and article labled "how to check steam deck oled screen type boe samsung explained"
I was worried about the etched screen because of what everyone was saying about it, but I have to say that if it's making my screen look worse I really can't tell because it looks fantastic to me and absolutely better looking than my LCD model.
matte screen protector is not quite the same, because the etched surface is further away from the pixels, it will blur the image more. the native etched screen does not blur the pixels at all, you can still take a macro shot of individual sub pixels in perfect rectangle.
correct. Jsaux does not claim its an etched screen protector because its not and its clearly way more aggressive than the etched glass on a deck... i can see what he is doing, its somewhat informative to show the differences but its very exaggerated because the etching is nowhere near that level of diffuse... kinda doing valve a little dirty completely by accident but also putting a label on the screen protector that isn't representative of what it is.
I own the steam deck limited edition OLED with etched glass and the standard OLED without etched glass. And I can tell you, it is NOT the same as using an antiglare screen protector. The etched glass OLED is much more pleasing to my eye than without. In a dark room you can hardly tell them apart. There is no loss in image quality like you get when you use a screen protector with a matte finish. I bought both versions of the OLED steam decks because I was concerned about the image quality taking a hit. Now, I’m sending back the standard OLED, and keeping the limited edition. It is glorious.
Another thing to for etched glass owners. You can adjust the color calibration and just bumping it two clicks towards native (under display settings) I found I get much more of a pop while not over saturating the image on my 1tb. The 512 screen does provide a nice image. But the ambient lights passing by are easily distracting. I find myself using my steam deck on the go and no so much at home.
Limited Edition are BoE, correct. 1 TB (not limited edition) are Samsung. I wish people would quit saying all 1 TB are BoE. (I have two 1 TB non-LE and they are both Samsung, have not heard of anyone with a non-LE that has BoE regardless of size).
with respect, you cant throw a anti glare screen protector on a glossy steam deck and say that is going to be the experience you get from the etched glass, there is a very specific process to creating the etched glass involving acids which apply certain grains to the screen and its that which diffuses the light. You are calling it an Etched anti glare screen protector but jsaux does not call it an etched anti glare screen protector because its not etched... its a matte coating. I can tell you now, this is not the same experience you get with the Etched glass OLED deck because i have one, this screen protector is far more aggressive and may be contributing to the softer image. Thats not me just defending the etched glass because i have one, but its an important distinction to make, this gives a wrong impression of what the etched glass may look like and to me it looks way more aggressive, you can still see reflections quite well in the etched glass but the matte effect of the protector is way more aggressive.
100%, good point regarding the etched Vs coating, I hadn't actually considered that. I should have clarified that in the video. I wasn't trying to say it's exactly the same as the higher tier etched as it is just a screen protector, this was more to say how good the anti-glare is and how I didn't realise how good it was even with a screen protector! If anything this test shows the official etched glass will be much better again. Sadly, valve hasn't provided us with samples to do this test with the official etched and I couldn't afford or justify purchasing two steam decks to test this with the official etched!
@@128KB hey no worries, at least you acknowledged the issue. You’re a smaller channel and clearly doing the best with what you have so keep going mate.
Yeah, I went with the 512gb version BECAUSE it was glossy. I have always hated matte screens. It looks awful to me. It flattens the image and makes it lose so much of its believability and immersiveness. That said, I think Valve's etched screen is not nearly as aggressive as most matte PC monitors, for example, and looks much better. I'm fine with there being options for different tastes. I just hope PC gaming doesn't go back to the dark ages where all PC displays were matte and looked horrible. There should be both glossy and matte options to cater to different preferences.
The reason it's such a heated argument is because both options are equally viable for different reasons. I think the most important distinction I don't see mentioned often is that the etched glass surface may be more prone to scratches (see JerryRig's scratch test). That said, if you own ANY of these new OLED models, you're probably gonna have a great time. :)
Yea so I'm sitting in front of both the 1TB LE and the 512 Glossy. I bought both to compare (arrived last weekend), which is really the only way to do this comparison validly. No, adding a protector to simulate the experience is not equivalent. Sorry. To make a long story very, very short: they look exactly the same indoors under normal lighting, low lighting, or no lighting. Colors, black performance, clarity. Completely the same. The clarity issue the content creator is having is, thus, completely a function of the screen protector itself being an inexpensive (cheap), additional piece. It's not the same as an infused piece of glass and that should be obvious to anyone reading this. Reduced clarity is a problem the real eteched screen does not actually have, making that part of the comparison only marginally helpful at best. The etched screen also does not diffuse light as aggressively as this screen protector (for good or bad). While it absolutely diffused light, it doesn't turn a lap into nothing. Lamp is still there, but demonstrably softer and considerably less distracting. I'm fortunate to still have 20/20 vision (confirmed about 3 weeks ago) and in my purcahse I was absolutely looking for (1) lack of crispness in the edges of small text and (2) that lost color richness against bright lights or outside sunshine. I even picked up a 2TB model in anticipation of it simply being a coronation of the glossy panel given how many YT videos confidently say the glossy was a smidge better if not more. I'm sorry but it's just not. They are equal in every way indoors, with etched being easier to see / less distracting outdoors. Basically, outdoors trades a slight (5%? 10%?) amount of color vibrance for almost completely elminating the kinds of detailed reflections and glare that would make you want to reposition just to see better. In my experiences the glossy is never *impossible* to see against glare; it's completely playable but is extremely distracting and at times can be very difficult to see against in the spots where the light is shining agsinst it the brightest. With the eteched, there is just never a time where the background distracts once you start playing and you're just surprised you can see everything regardless of lighting condition. You can absolutely see and make out a bit of what's being reflected if you look hard enough at it on etched, but it's not an issue at all. Completely playability and satisfaction in exchange for a 5%-10% reduction in vibrance? It seems like a no-brainer for mobile gamers that actually play on the go. And again, the vibrance reduction is only when you're outside in sunshine or near bright windows or lights that you can't avoid pointing at you. In those times you get a playable, non-distracting experience...and any other time you get the exact same experience as the glossy in color, clarity, vibrance, and blackness. It's like having an extra feature that only appears when you actually need it. That's it. The question is whether getting a better experience outdoors / on the go is worth the price premium to you. Because they are 100% equivalent indoors (in both colors and clarity), if your use case is like 80%+ indoors, you can go for the less expensive model and enjoy pocketing the savings or put it towards a 1-2TB SSD replacement. If more travel is in the cards for you than that, it's probably worth the extra $100.
Every user input I've seen documented always said the same thing. They could NEVER tell a difference. These youtubers are trolls and do crap like this for easy clicks.
@@BadAssBlackOverlord not really... They just dont test stuff in day to day life but in studio... and this guy sells u screen protector and gets 15% of what u spent from that company.
I own both the LE and 512B OLED models. There is no real difference in screen quality IMO. They just handle reflections differently. They are both fantastic screens and there is no bad version.
I bought a screen with etched glass that caused a lot of chromatic aberration, but after some time with it it seems like it's not even there. To be clear though, I haven't seen any loss in picture quality on the etched glass steam deck.
I just wanted to bring up one point that I haven’t seen anyone bring up in these reviews: When thinking about the glare/reflections with glossy model, take into consideration that the screen is *NOT* more reflective than any of the other half dozen handheld devices that most of us use on a regular basis. Your iPhone, galaxy, iPad, switch oled, ps vita, whatever all have glossy screens. If the reflections on those devices aren’t too much of a nuisance for you, you don’t really NEED the highest tier model unless you only want the 1tb storage.
I have the etched panel, and I think the diffusion is somewhere between that screen protector and the glossy. Personally, I can't stand glossy screens on anything. I've always hated how they look, and I don't understand how people find it looks better (I even prefer classic matte TN panels to glossy screens). It just looks too ... wet I guess. So, it was an easy choice for me that I'm happy with. I'm glad others have options to get what makes them happy though.
Are you blind? Glossy panels preserve picture quality. Matte panels degrade picture quality. You're not getting the full OLED experience if you have a matte panel.
I absolutely despise matte screens and I don't understand how anyone thinks they look better. It's like displaying a moving three dimensional image on a Kindle e-ink display, thus causing it to lose depth and three dimensionality. It looks flat, dull, and lifeless to me.
@@cyberedge881 It really depends on what you are used to and how much reflections bother you. I'm personally used to etched glass/matte screens (my TV is matte, my 2 PC monitors are matte, and the only glossy screens I have is my phone and OLED switch). I know I am losing a bit of clarity but I can't stand seeing reflections of my room and myself in darker areas of the screen. The OLED panel of the Switch is really good but I have immense trouble finding the correct angles to get rid of the reflection when playing in my room with natural daylight, so it's frustrating for me. I find myself obligated to play in almost complete darkness to not be distracted. Curiously it doesn't bother me with other Nintendo handhelds with glossy screens (like the DS and 3DS), I think it's because these screens are smaller. The bigger the screen, the more it bothers me because the reflection is more "irregular". But yes if reflections don't bother you then glossy screens are inherently better 🙂
A glossy protector will totally change the etched glass to look glossy. I put one on my etched glass display and there's no way you would ever be able to tell it wasn't originally glossy by looking at it. It's pretty cool to watch it change from matte to glossy right before your eyes when applying it.
Yes, it makes it glossy. What he’s saying is that it doesn’t change the fact that the etched panel underneath it still diffuses light more so the screen will still have the same decreased clarity as that etched panel but reflective instead
That works on the etched screen of the Steam Deck, but it doesn't work on most matte PC monitors. I've tried. I usually have to mod those by removing the matte film, or by polishing the whole thing out the way you would a car paint job. I haven't seen other people use that method. But I've done multiple displays that way. The etched screen of the Steam Deck is a different method and isn't as aggressive. This is why you can apply a screen protector over the top.
The glossy for me is just way too gorgeous, especially with the jsaux tempered glass screen protector I used. I think the clear glass makes the colors pop even more. I’m in love
LE Steam Deck OLED. I have weighed this decision for a while, but knowing my lighting situation, I prefer the etched glass. I have seen other screens (TV, smartphones, monitors) and like the glass image reproduction. I wouldn't say I like the reflections when playing a game. Especially during the day when you can see the sunlight in the background. I would rather deal with the etched glass downgrade than the obnoxious reflections any day or night.
I ended up grabbing the LE OLED and it’s been fantastic. Easily the best screen I’ve ever seen in a handheld. I had the glossy screen on my lcd model and was always annoyed by seeing my farce in every game I played. And also the light in my room would reflect off my glasses down to the screen and back to me which made it impossible to see parts of the screen. So the matte finish on the etched glass has been a godsend for me
Actually glad to see a fellow. Glasses wearer say this… i have glasses with color correction and blue light blocking inside the lens and i wonder how it would be… my steam deck was supposed to deliver today but i guess i wont get it till monday UPDATE: so i got it today and let me tell you!!! this thing is probably one of the best things my man has ever got me. Its perfect... and the non glossy screen is amazingly perfect for my eyes.
I've noticed this. A lot of people who prefer matte are glasses wearers. My wife is one of them. I have excellent vision and I prefer glossy. Maybe it's just too many reflections between their glasses and the glossy screen for glasses wearers.
The issues I've had with the JSAUX screen protector weren't clarity. It was that it introduces these oily artifacts to the screen on bright flat colors. Any time you have a bright flat color on the screen, it looks smeared like I stamped my fingerprints on it. The blue and teal skies in a game like Super Mario World just look off. They are not flat like they should be. I do not know however if this was a defect with my screen protector, but I tried applying both that came in the package, both had the same issue despite a bubble/issue-less installation. I got both the 512GB and 1TB models to compare them. When comparing the 512 with the JSAUX protector installed, and the 1TB model, the 1TB model doesn't present this problem. Since I play a lot of retro games and a lot of games with bright colors, this bothered me a lot. The anti-glare is also far more effective/aggressive on the JSAUX protector than on the 1TB etched glass. I returned the 512 unit.
I was on the verge of buying a used limited edition from a local seller here but decided not to cuz the 512 picture imo is clearer than the etched glass on the 1tb version. I shouldnt have to manipulate the screen with a protector just to obtain clarity. I really wish valve released a 512 le too.
I wish they would have done the glossy screen on all the models too. I got the limited edition because I wanted the etched glass but I didn’t think about the fact that I wanted a screen protector and I was worried that if I put etched glass on top of etched glass it would really mess up the picture so I went with the glossy screen protector on top of the etched glass. Still looks amazing though and i am really happy with my purchase
Thanks for mentioning the pixel diffusion because last night I was finally playing with my Ola steam deck that I got on release date and noticed that it looked a little bit blurry at some moments so I’m glad it’s not just me because I haven’t seen what a glossy screen looks like and I kept wondering if I made the wrong choice getting the limited edition since the first limited edition I got had three dead pixels on the non-Samsung screen, so I kept hoping there wasn’t a quality difference between the two screens
This was not an ideal test, the matte screen protectors and etched glass are not the same, what you could have done is get the 1TB model and put an glass screen protector over it and it’s like u have the glossy one. A matte screen protector compared to the etched glass will be fuzzier and some color will be lost in comparison
Having used an anti-glare screen protector on my OLED Switch, it definitely makes the device feel much better to use, even if I do notice that haziness in lighter coloured areas.
I like the etched glass finish on my LE screen. It feels like things are printed than "screened" a bit like reading stuff on a kindle. It got like a satin finish that make the device look more modern and refined imo. Also it can apparently serve as "free anti aliasing" at some degree 😅
My experience with the Limited Edition, the etched glass doesn't matter on dark scenes. On very contrasty stuff like a field of stars you get some haloing from the bright spots diffusing. You see it on white text on a black background. You also notice a bit with black text on pure white background. I definitely prefer the etched glass for daytime gaming.
I haven't notied that yet. I'm have both the glossy and matte and am using the play screen in steam for LIMBO (black back, white text) and they look exactly the same on both units. I'm not seeing any haloing or diffusing like you're describing. Or, none that is unique to the eteched model. They both have "haloing", or a bit of glow. Neither more than the other.
the best comparison from all ive watched before. directly, and very clear. All possibilitys, all well explained. Thanks a lot. Im gonna get the 512 model. Merry Xmas
I have a 1TB OLED. Look great to me. If I compare to a switch oled, it seems, well, more premium but to be fair, the switch OLED display isn’t exactly lacking. Have we reached the stage where we try to determine if something that is brilliant is ever so slightly more or less brilliant than something else that’s comparatively brilliant. Having said that, in a side by side game comparison using Ori, Will of the Wisp, the Etched OLED SD is far superior. Not entirely like for like but it does show how far handheld hardware has come😊
Etched glass is really hard to do without it having an effect on the image as well. Apple had to develop a nano-texturing for their pro level monitor and that's even a $1000 option. With a portable device though, there's rarely a time that you can't control the light (and angle) that hits the screen. The only exception is outdoor in the sunshine but how many of us are really doing that.
Thanks for your great video! I honestly found your examples and opinion on the gloss and etched differnces the most helpful on TH-cam I've seen so far. I had bought the 512gb OLED because there were such strong opinions out there that the etched would absolutely ruin the viewing experience. But now that I have it, I regret it since the reflections are so harsh, even in a dark room if there is even one small light behind me that happens to catch the screen, there is a sharp reflection of it. I was in the process of returning my 512 oled back to Valve for the 1tb, but I think I'll pick up that screen protector instead - I already have a 2tb ssd and prefer the original case design since I like to carry my earbuds and charger.
I recently bought the 1tb Steam Deck and gosh, what do I like the handheld so much! The UI is very easy to navigate into it and it is a powerful beast. Yes, I really like the edged OLED glass panel! Great content and I'll see you in the next one! 😎👍
I would have went etched then glossy screen protector. The only reason is the stock etched is by far better than any after market etched screen protector.
I actually like the etched or matt screens, I had the LCD one, but now I upgraded to the new 1TB one with an etched screen, and man… I almost see no difference to the LCD version… to the point that I even think the Asus Rog Ally looks better. And yes the Rog has an awesome screen the beginn with but an Oled obviously be better. So yeah, gonna get the 512gb Oled instead soon.
I have two smaller children and a much larger teen in the house with my wife and I. It is incredibly rare to have the lighting suitable for a gloss screen. I can’t stand reflections and find they make everything unwatchable or unplayable. I would never consciously purchase a glossy screen. I would however, put a matte screen protector on if available and do so on my Apple devices. Thank you for the comparison, top notch video!
I have the 512gb OLED and two small kids too and I'm never able to get ideal lighting conditions either 😅. My glossy phone and tablet don't bother me at all, so I thought I'd be fine with glossy, but I'm finding the reflections on the steam deck make it really hard to game. Even when I am able to get a dark room if the screen happens to catch their night light or the light under the microwave, there is a sharp glare on the screen.
Just ordered the 1TB OLED, if steam released an update which one can adjust the display settings. Like contrast/gamma/black level and contrast enhancer to name a few then these issues would not be relevant imo.
I’m sat here with the same screen protector on and I just dunno whether to Keep it on or not. I think I prefer glossy. But I’m not sure. The image feels blurry to me.
Stick with it for a while, it really depends if you'll benefit from the anti glare situations. I myself now am going to replace it back to glossy as it does have a slight blur to it and after so many weeks and playing my gloss Switch, it's getting to me!
this is my last day to be able to exchange my 512gb oled....I looove it its BEAUTIFUL and ive been searching for a video like yours. I want to see a video where it compares the anti glare screen protector vs the 1tb etched glass oled!!!! in your opinion would you keep the 512?? I mean I do play outside a lot but its about to be winter ... lol and I normally dont really worry about the glare (switch oled) I mean sure its annoying af but in this situation I would rather just get the better one! like really I want to know are people hyping up this etched screen ? like is there actually this HUGE noticeable diff between a 512 oled with a screen protector on it vs the 1tb etched...I am noticing there's pros and cons to both, but would like opinions haha
Great video. I have been on the fence with the etched glass. I already have an LCD deck which I have upgraded to 2 Tb. So it seems pointless for me to pay more money for the 1Tb deck with etched glass than the 512 because I'm going to install my 2Tb anyway. I'd never really thought about an etched screen protector before, so thank you for the video. I'll go for the 512 and order the screen protectors for use when I go abroad and play outside. Then just rip it off to go back to the normal way I play which is indoors mostly in a dimly lit room.
The factory etching of the screen is more nuanced than that of the screen protector. Also, a glossy screen protector on an etched screen vs glossy screen are indistinguishable. The protector adds back the sharpness somehow
correct, he is doing valve a little dirty in this video by presenting a matte screen protector as an ''etched'' screen protector and suggesting that would be the experience you get from the etched deck... its not etched and jsaux does not claim its etched because its not, the screen protector is very clearly way more aggressive at diffusing light than the etched glass which will contribute to diffusing the light coming from the display as well as from outside the display. Its an honest mistake on his part though im sure, its a close enough comparison to see how the etched glass might behave but its an exaggeration of that, most who have the etched glass oled including myself should be able to see that the screen protector in this video is way more aggressive.
From what I seen and heard putting on a glossy screen protector on the etched screen isn't the same as just getting the glossy screen. The etched doesn't fully go away completely. I wish someone on YT will finally put this debate to rest by just simply doing this.
@@128KB you should be hand palming your face bro you made some critical errors which can mislead your viewers... etched glass is not the same as a matte screen protector... even one you call an etched screen protector which Jsaux themselves do not call etched because its not. You did valve a bit dirty here, on accident ofcourse - by suggesting this is the experience you will get with the etched glass, its not, the etched glass does not even come close to how aggressive that screen protector is and that may have contributed to your findings on clarity under the macro. its a valid video to show what the differences might be but had you owned both decks you would have been able to better inform viewers that the screen protector is different and more aggressive, its also further away from the pixels of the display naturally so will blur just that bit more. You should pin a correction... and thanks for the content, im on the edge of subscribing but this one was a slight miss.
I completely disagree. I prefer glossy over matte finishes on any kind of display. Except perhaps a display for utilitarian purposes that is outside for commercial purposes or something. Matte just takes out all of the vibrancy, realism and three dimensional depth. I've modded multiple PC monitors to convert them from matte to glossy. I've also owned countless TVs and even modded a couple of those, which I've never seen anyone else do before. I've always preferred the glossy screens on CRTs, plasmas and most OLEDs. One of the reasons I hated LCDs so much is the fact that they usually had matte screens and looked completely flat and synthetic to me. To each their own, of course, and I'm glad there are different options. But glossy all the way for me.
Glossy is totally best overall but the matte can be useful for certain conditions, I myself am now likely to replace this matte protector with a gloss one soon as the clarity is my main issue. I've been playing the Switch with a glossy OLED more recently and going back to this Matte SD OLED I can see the loss in clarity. Vibrancy isn't an issue here really, not noticeable enough to be horrendous at least, although you're right when comparing monitors or TV's etc.
Yeah, different scenarios and different preferences, so it's definitely good that there are options that cater to different tastes and use cases. Thanks for the video.
A tip for the 1tb owners. Bump the color saturation 2 clicks towards native (under display settings) and it makes the colors pop much more. If you came here to justify your 1tb purchase. Feel good about it. Were comparing a Lamborghini and a Ferrari equivalent of handheld displays here 😂

"That's not being washed out, that's just the way the light is being diffused over it at that angle." I hate to break it to you but that is basically the definition of being washed out. It's literally just more concentrated in smaller spaces or lesser across a much larger space. This is the classic matte vs glossy. Nothing new here. Like with TVs or laptop screens, tablets etc. If you have a reflection problem then a matte display can increase your visual experience greatly, if you don't really have a reflection problem then the matte display will in fact decrease your visual experience to some degree nearly all the time. Some people are more sensitive to this. Personally after say 25+ years of using computing devices with screens I can REALLY notice the difference in quality of matte screens. Especially when you go OLED. It really cuts the edge of some of the benefits of an OLED screen that extra contrast etc. Some people can hardly tell though. Pick what fits for you but it will make a difference. Just keep in mind just because YOU don't see it doesn't mean others. A good example of this is soap opera effect and motion interpolation artifacts on TVs. Some people don't notice it at all, but for others (like me) it drives us crazy. If my tv goes into a different mode with those settings I instantly see it but my wife can't really tell the difference.
You are better off with the glossy screen and then adding a etched screen protector because if you are buying it with the stock etched screen, the screen breaks much easier, which for how expensive these things are, is kind of scary

Did you saw like a waves or some sort spots where was like a water but not water (sorry, can’t describe exactly what I mean) in closer look after applying mate jsaux?
they are two very different things, the etched glass of the deck is etched glass and the screen protector isn't. etched glass goes through a specific process of acid dipping which applies grains to the glass which enable it to defuse light, the etched glass is a premium option because it no doubt costs more to make. the screen protector is not etched its just a matte film applied to the protector which is far more aggressive at diffusing the light, the etched glass will be more reflective and clear... but will still appear less clear than the gloss deck due to having those grains applied to the display.

If i get the etched glass OLED, which screen protector would you recommend?
Can I get away without a screen protector? I plan to travel with it.
@@Quanziam you don’t need a screen protector on a steam deck. Unless you share it with your kids… then maybe?
What if you use a screen protector to counter the etched glass. And make it glossy
If you find the reflections too distracting, don't forget you can always access your eyes settings and turn off RTX
That’s genius why didn’t I think of that. I’ll use it next time thanks lol
Couldn't agree more. Not a valid comparison. Misleading.
I know etched is the "premium" option, but unless I'm in direct sunlight all the time I prefer the gloss finish
@@cyberedge881 Because matte =/= etched
@cyberedge881 there's a difference between matte and etched, you know that right?
Thanks for this !

I actually trust Valve's decision more than anyone else to be honest.
But then you can't add a screen protector without turning it gloss or doing double etched? 🤔
@@JordanPike you can add a gloss screen to the etch... and it pops

I own both the LE and 512B OLED models. There is no real difference in screen quality IMO. They just handle reflections differently. They are both fantastic screens and there is no bad version.

@@2003andre100u jealous
@@676marvin nah not jealous of people wasting money
@@2003andre100 can you even buy one?
@@676marvin yeah? Why
I bought a screen with etched glass that caused a lot of chromatic aberration, but after some time with it it seems like it's not even there. To be clear though, I haven't seen any loss in picture quality on the etched glass steam deck.
I just wanted to bring up one point that I haven’t seen anyone bring up in these reviews:
When thinking about the glare/reflections with glossy model, take into consideration that the screen is *NOT* more reflective than any of the other half dozen handheld devices that most of us use on a regular basis.
I’m in love
What glass? The hd clarity?
That's straight up nonsense.
Glasses wearer say this… i have glasses with color correction and blue light blocking inside the lens and i wonder how it would be… my steam deck was supposed to deliver today but i guess i wont get it till monday
UPDATE: so i got it today and let me tell you!!! this thing is probably one of the best things my man has ever got me.
That's cool and all but a matte screen protector on a glossy screen isn't exactly the same thing as an etched screen...
Would you say getting the OLED Steam Deck is more worth it than Switch OLED at this point?
So what do I do if I want the etched glass but still want a screen protector?
You can still throw a screen protector on it no damage will happen to the etched glass
Merry Xmas
I got the 1TB edition and I just put a glossy protector on it and it made the colors pop more!
THANKYOU FOR THIS VIDEO 🙏
So many of my questions answered specifically.. confirmed my suspicions, I'm getting the glossy + screen protector 💎
Nah bruh. The screen protector is NOT equivalent to an actual eteched screen. Etched native >>> etched protector.
gloss all the way. Even with my OLED TV's the gloss just POPS while the anti-glare panels I feel takes away from that ever so slightly.
I’m sat here with the same screen protector on and I just dunno whether to
Keep it on or not.
What if I got the etched 1tb with a glossy screen protector??
this is my last day to be able to exchange my 512gb oled....I looove it its BEAUTIFUL and ive been searching for a video like yours.
I have the limited edition BOW screen. Absolutely beautiful can’t complain about a thing.
Nice! Thank you for helping me decide! Great, substantive video
Just got myself a LE off eBay for only 100$, more not too bad, but if it's truly LE, then i'm happy af!!!

"That's not being washed out, that's just the way the light is being diffused over it at that angle."
I hate to break it to you but that is basically the definition of being washed out.

What setting are you using on ratchet
How is that screen protector compared to stock matte oled deck?
they are two very different things, the etched glass of the deck is etched glass and the screen protector isn't. etched glass goes through a specific process of acid dipping which applies grains to the glass which enable it to defuse light, the etched glass is a premium option because it no doubt costs more to make. the screen protector is not etched its just a matte film applied to the protector which is far more aggressive at diffusing the light, the etched glass will be more reflective and clear... but will still appear less clear than the gloss deck due to having those grains applied to the display.

anti-glare to reduce reflections
It’s not fair to compare glossy oled Steam deck with your own etched screen protector.
Tbh the blurriness is actually preferable you don’t see the harsh pixel grid and it’s like a physical anti aliasing at no extra processing cost. 😉
Bro the valve etched glass is different from that anti glare screen protector. The one by Valve u can still see reflections but not as prominent as the gloss. So the quality is totally different. Get another steam deck and compare it again

Most PC monitors are matt, no problem with them, nor the etch screen...98% of of 100% nothing in it
cant just buy a matte screen protector
?
Am i the only one thats not bothered by the reflexions? I hate how it looks with the etched screen protector
Which Star Wars game is that at 05:40?
Star wars squadrons
I want to buy the oled one but the burn in screen is holding me back, became its gonna get crazy when summer hits and screen gets super hot
Anything regarding this did valve say anything?
I bought the 1tb model because I don't want to open the deck 🤣
Please tell me what game is at 10:51
The name of the game is lost planet
2:35 normal people don't have that many lights in their house.
nice, this makes my 1TB buy way more sense now.
If you actually take your portable console on the go you'll be happy with the etched screen. If you only ever use your Steam Deck in your basement where the sun doesn't shine you'll be happy with the glossy screen.
You can reverse the etched glass effect by putting on a glossy protector
The glossy it s best
Etched is the way to go sooo much better
The etched glass is so much better
it is, i have one... but keep in mind its also much more fragile and softer materials can scratch it than can scratch normal glass. so you might want to put a screen protector on anyway lol
