    I will always go for glossy ESPECIALLY on OLEDs. Reflections are not even an issue, our eyes want to focus on what’s underneath the reflections and TH-cam makes reflections look worse than what they really are because the camera always focuses on the reflections. Our eyes work differently. I love the deep deep blacks, the bright colors and how sharp the glossy steamdeck oled looks! It’s perfection!

      I had the glossy LCD and regreted it after a while. When the OLED released, going with the Etched one was a no brainer and it still looks miles better. Sure, the contrast is not the same in places with a lot of light as on the glossy one but at least I can play it without being distracted by my face, the walls or whatever it is you can see in the reflection...

    I really think it's a shame you cant physically see the deck somewhere in a store or something. I know valve has its reasons to do all sales through steam, but recordings of a screen never do it justice so you're basically always making a gamble the first time you purchase a deck.
    Now i can imagine myself playing games outside with this thing so I would gamble on the etched for that reason alone but i still would've preferred to check one out before spending 600-700 bucks on one.

    I have the Steam Deck with an anti-glare OLED display and I compared it to my Switch OLED playing the same games. While I do agree that the glossy screen is more appealing to the eye, the colors on both screens look almost the same. The black levels on the anti-glare OLED display are just as deep as the ones on the Switch OLED. I also notice that the Switch OLED has slightly more color saturation on green or yellow colors, but other colors are equally vibrant and colorful on both screens. The differences are so small that I wouldn't notice them without looking at both screens side-by-side. It's something that would only bother you if you are very nit-picky. Glossy screens are definitely more appealing because they add a nice shine to the screen, but they barely affected color contrast on my Switch OLED when I compared it to my Steam Deck. It's also worth noting that I didn't play any games with HDR support, so I didn't take advantage of my Steam Deck's HDR feature when I compared it to my Switch OLED. That way, the comparison would be more apples-to-apples. Matte screens are bad for OLED displays, but the anti-glare screen on the Steam Deck OLED is not actually a matte screen. It is more like a hybrid between matte and glossy, so you get the best of both worlds. I have laptops with matte screens and they look very different than the anti-glare screen on the Steam Deck. On a matte screen the texture is usually very grainy and it is difficult to see your reflection on it, but the Steam Deck's anti-glare screen is not grainy and you could still see your reflection through it much easier than a matte screen, though glossy screens are still much more reflective.

    I personally prefer the etched glass finish even if colors are slighly less poppy than glossy. I like how the matte finish makes things a bit more inky a bit like if it was printed on paper, or screened on a kindle device. I spent some time in this headspace for the reasons you just mentioned, and it definitely almost won me over. In the end, I realized most all my OLED devices are glossy and I just forget about the glossyness while using them, I decided on the slight color pop you get. • @MrTigidoo
      @MrTigidoo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here, but when I compare with all my glossy oled devices, I still prefer much those inky blacks on my LE than poppy blacks on my glossy devices. Now with that said i still didnt buy the 1tb one, because its a diferent panel and i did notice some diference between the 2.
      The 512 has accurate colors, while the 1tb has more vibrant colors, why is that bad ? You may ask... Well... If i want vibrance i can increase it to be more vibrant, but if i want acurate colors it aint that easy.

    • @cyberedge881
      @cyberedge881 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's funny, because that's exactly what I hate about it. Matte finish destroys the three dimensional depth. It is indeed similar to looking at a Kindle e-ink display. For text that's great, but for games and movies? No way. Not for me at least.

    Now I am in a right quandary. Do I get the 512 or pay £90 more for the 1TB. I already have an LCD with a 2TB SSD in it , so If I spend the extra on a 1TB it's going to swapped out anyway. But I do sometimes play outside and take the Deck on holiday with me. Or do I save the £90 and just go with an anti glare screen protector on the 512 when used outside, which really is not a lot in the UK and £90 would but me 6 packs of Jsaux anti glare, so that's 12 screen protectors for when I go abroad. Oh dear, Oh dear. Or do I just buy both and use one for indoor and one for outdoor.......Joking by the way 😃

      Yeah I'd swap that 2TB into your new one, whichever you choose. I wouldnt get both though haha. Also, I would not recommend an anti-glare screen protector over the glossy screen, it looks pretty terrible in all lighting 🫣. It sounds to me like the 1TB model is what will be ideal for you. Thanks for watching!

    I can't believe anyone would rather get the 1 TB version with that awful looking screen.
    The glossy one looks hands down better and if you're that upset about reflections, play it in a room without any Lights behind you. What's the big deal

      The anti-glare screen and two part case were the biggest selling point for me, because I travel a lot. I can't exactly turn off the sun while I play on a train.
