You have to be completly out of touch trying to justify 1500USD price, using argument like "but there is custom made keycaps" and then "yes, this thing is wobbling, feet are bad, screws are lose, cable is short etc etc.
most of these boards are out of touch lol, even "cheaper" stuff its always like "yeah its just 500 dollars!" when you can get boards with everything for around 100-200 these days. though at the same time a board like this isnt meant to be in touch. its only for people who want expensive statement boards like modern art purchases
@@lemonhaze1506Takes one to know one I guess
lmao y'all need to read up on what "shill" and "out of touch" actually mean
justified, as in the cost of materials and machining and designing, not " this board is unique and we're putting a hefty premium on it cause we can". Lots of people don't realize that non-standard boards come with a hefty price tag from production costs alone. It can definitely be polished more and improved, but those don't affect the price. that's more of QC
@lemonhaze1506 moot point IMO. The hobby is composed of different people looking for different things, and no single product has to be made for the entirety of keyboard enthusiasts. Cheap doesn't equal better, expensive doesn't equal overpriced. Pretty sure some people out there see the value of the board and are willing to pay for it, and it's ok if you're not part of the target audience
I think this is more in the vein of people who buy Bugattis or £100,000 watches. You're not buying it for its value; you're buying it as a showpiece or to fill a void among other ridiculous keebs in your collection. The QwertyKeys and Meletrix fans among us are not the target audience here.
It is! It's a showpiece functional piece of art. Plus there are hundreds of boards that do the same function as this thing, and maybe even better. It's fun to me, but yes pricey for something unique and it's okay to not like it!
0:02 That‘s not a keyboard, that‘s an axe without handle.
1500 for this ain't justified at all
IMO I think it is, small batch project thats in stock, huge billet of aluminum needed to machine it and even custom keycaps to go with the project? It makes more sense than some of the other more "luxury" projects i've seen personally! However I do think it needs more refining.
I think it is justified, maybe just not for the typical enthusiast
Perfect for the apple enthusiasts
I think they meant isn’t justified to be so low😉
It's justified in a sense that it is probably an 'adequate' price considering every cost and the fact that this is small batch in stock, but yeah I aint buying that shit
I'd honestly expect numpad and TouchPad on such a huge keyboard for such price.
It doesn't leave much space for them on the desk and within a reach
This is sweet. I love ridiculous stuff like this when it's done well.
I had no idea you reviewed this?! I’m so excited for this. This board is the epitome of what I love and need the keyboard hobby to keep doing. Another wild board coming soon I’ve been eyeing too is the BP-One. Thing literally looks like a supercar
Hope you enjoy it! It was a hell of a lot of fun looking at it.
Thank you so much for your support! Seems like it’s a really polarizing product lol
I think there’s a keyboard stuck in your metal wedge
Here when the description isn’t even written yet😂
Yeah i've tried to update it like 5 times since I posted it and it keeps defaulting back to nothing. So sorry!
What's the keyboard on your desk at the beginning of the video?
Pangea mini I think
Yep, I realized it was a recent build after the comment. Thanks!@@Officialv5a
Very unique indeed.
what is the desk mat??
Apple shluld have bundle this board together with the 1,000 USD monitor stand and asked 10,000 USD. There are always people who want to see money burn.
and the usb-c should be at the bottom 😂
@@Br--kfast😂😂
I'm here in the comments for all the armchair economists and manufacturing experts. TH-cam comments are so predictable lmao
I'm dead.
And guess what - serene industries sold out of these in 2 days! Can't believe so many people would spend money on something that speaks to their design preferences!
@@demarshall 100%, I keep saying this and it's just always a conversation about the cheapest thing possible. As if we are not allowed to like and appreciate different things.
Plus them selling out was crazy cool to see. Very happy for them!
@@Lemonhaze-wk2dd happy to be the person defending creative design vs. those holding the line that everything should be a boring TGR TKL clone.
Still not mad, though.
that thing is a whole desk
macbook built with multiple short cable in it because there is no room for it, but this product, what statement is the design trying to emphasize with that smol pp internal cable?
The cable is long enough, we will release build guides that explain on how to properly install the PCB if you ever need it disassembled
It looks like anti-breaking keyboard that you'll see on ATMs in public spaces and so on. It only lacks a trackball.
100% needs a trackball.
what is that beautiful thing on his desk at the start???
excited to see a new crazy keyboard. obvi a waste of money for almost everyone but happy for anyone who can justify it (I can get "why" it's so expensive). it looks very cool and it would be awesome to see those keycaps on more boards (I think a lot more people could justify the keycaps and I think they are very much the best part of the board). ppl are making jokes about pairing it with the new macs but it would actually look very very cool lol.
I personally don't think it sounded great and I think HE switches are kind of a miss for something like this (I like Hall Effect switches for gaming but def swap out my keyboard when not gaming - they def feel much worse for typing IMO). also some of the pieces seemed ... wobbly?
edit: it seems like it's marketed as being "bespoke" but has a lot of weird flaws. like boards that are $1000 cheaper seem more complete / thought out.
Hey! We also offer a hotswap MX version as well as a wireless version and you could completely replace the switches if you ever wanted to
Also, the flaws is just stuff we could communicate better or perform better QC/assembly, we have already implemented changes after Alex’s stream, like the issue with the dampener not being bonded to the bottom lid
Be assured that anyone dealing with a flaw in their Icebreaker will receive appropriate service and necessary fixes
This just isn't a board anyone SHOULD justify if I'm being completely honest. For a gamer, these will not be anywhere near good for gaming, for a typist, you're going to have hurt wrists by the time you're 35, for a programmer, you're going to be moving to a new keyboard quickly so that you can have some actual function that doesn't take up most of your desk.
Like, I get it... it's a "novelty board", but just use any run of the mill split keyboard. Nobody who likes keyboards will be impressed by a keyboard that looks like it was manufactured by Apple, and the people that would actually be impressed by it, they'd be EVEN MORE impressed if you're over there using a split keyboard at 140 wpm.
@@nickthaskater Yes $1500 worth
Nolan n1 with a whole custom suspension system was 550usd, i get it. Albedo with the horns and a sick art was 750usd, okay. But 1500usd for a big slab of aluminum with no real design is just ridiculous. Metal keycaps, okay cool but they just cant justify the price combined with the lack of any gasketing system.
You should also review hanboards reflection
Thumbnail is crazy 🙏🏻
Ho ho ho this is something else! But the price... mmmmm no way, not for me.
Nice novelty board, but not for me.
lots of copium in this video
your whole channel is dedicated to custom mechanical keyboards price with unjustifiable (for a person outside of hobby) price
why the fuck are there so many people who say "i don't like it thus the price is too big" (at this moment there are four), like it's not made for you and i'm more than sure that people who see this and say "i want to buy it" have heard and seen keycults, bauers and andromedas and most likely have more than one custom keyboard of their own
also i don't like how they look (for myself) but i'm glad something like this exists
It’s definitely not for everyone, but we wanted to experiment and push the envelope of design, thanks for recognizing that!
$1500 is a crazy price tag for a metal rectangle, there's not a touch of personality in that thing. And Alex still say it's justifiable 🙄
@@nickthaskater No calling me poor people anymore? LMAO acting like $1500 is nothing while can't afford the board yourself is big irony
@LânBùiBảo where did I say anything about being unable to afford it? It's simply not a priority.
You saying you own "x" board carries as much weight as me saying I have a 15" dick. It's utterly irrelevant unless you whip it out.
You're on some tirade against this board. It's weird, but you do you. And again, enjoy your expensive generic TKL.
price aside why would one need a hall effect keyboard that big? doesnt even have a full 100% layout either just overpriced and confusing as hell
@@lemonhaze1506 i had to look it up because he said it was HE, it does have mechanical soldiered and hotswap as well as wireless options available, but still like why? i could see 100% layout for productivity use case but 65% HE is something thats bigger than pretty much any other board on the market is atrocious not to mention just pissing your money away on astetics that you could more than likely get a local machine shop to make an outer case for you that looks identical and make it fit to whatever board you want it to for like 1/3 of the cost lmao
@@R3APER-350xxlabour costs. If you want to do that then do that. Plus the keycaps would probably cost you a fortune in a single batch.
@@AnimeFan-wd5pq nah I don't I use my HE board for gaming taking up 80% of my desk ain't it chief, and he even states in the review that you can get the caps for like 400..... maybe 250 to have an outer case manufacture and w/e keyboard you wanna use...... you could literally make this silly looking thing using their caps for less than half the cost but go on and keep glazing this dumbass design
If I’m gunna have a block of metal on my desk, I’d rather have the Saturn60
I'm all about expensive boards but 1500 for that is just stupid, and trying to justify it is even worst. 🤣
Agree and it’s not even nice to look at I prefer the one he has on his desk with red but I love pc
Commenting on a TH-cam video to call a product and the reviewer stupid is stupid.
@@nickthaskater Comparing the Icebreak to Bugatti 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nice shill
@@nickthaskater You think Bugatti would have that price tag if they didn't have innovative features and rich history? TGR is worth that price tag because of its history that push design language (toblerone, alice, etc.) that benefit the keyboard experience for users. What justify this price tag other than 'aesthetic' with clashing design elements (Hall Effect on a bulky hunk of metal really? Seems like Serene don't even know who their target customers are), Serene don't have the history or the innovation nor the story to justify an $1500 ugly board.
Saying form/aesthetic is all that matters then why Bugatti have a dedicated R&D department for drive experience? They can funnel all their resources into 'aEsThEtic' and sell out cars with clashing user elements like the Icebreaker right?
People screaming 'Aesthetic' to defend this board is the same people thinking rich people will buy anything with no story-telling and poorly functional as long as the price tag is big enough.
@@nickthaskater I've already own a TGR red Shi that's why I mention them, I'm in this range of customer and I can afford a $2000-3000 board. Unlike you who can't afford this $1500 board but still saying it's worth under every comment and malding because people think the price point for this ugly design is unjustifiable. You're talking like every single rich people is liking this board when it's not the reality.
1500 is funny. Nah
I do remember seeing this. Not for this crowd of mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.
Yeah I feel like this is more for a crowd that appreciates a particular style of design!
@@alexotosTotally
Chyrosran22 would definitely fw this
"I could justify the price, partially because...metal keycaps and they're so good"
Also: "I would swap them out for Cherry profile keycaps"
...LMFAO
Respectfully, the content is solid and I always look forward to it, and while this is certainly "unique," it feels a little bit like missing the target, especially the audience, completely.
$1,500 for a keyboard is insane. The design is nutty as that thing is MASSIVE. I don't see the value in it whatsoever.
For all of the HE circle jerking going on right now, you can spend like $200 on a HE board, prebuilt, and get a very solid experience, so I'm not sure where the other $1,300 in 'value added' is coming from. I made it 3 minutes into the video and just simply stopped watching.
Mannnnnn, I said many times in the stream and once in the video that I am not good at typing on that profile it came with and that's why i wanted to swap over. And I wanted to see what the board sounded like with them on with something I'm familiar with typing on. The board also had an MX PCB
But that's fair! If you don't see value in it its not going to work out for you as a purchase ever. It's a fun board and I respect it, as I stated a few times there are things i don't like about it though and that need to be worked on. However I do think there is validity in HE, I think it's unfair to call it a circle jerk.
@@alexotos Crazy sellout, ain't you rich enough to not compromise your integrity?
For sure one of the most pointless keyboard I've ever seen.
Aren't they all? We should all just get Dell keyboards.
@@alexotos Yep, that's totally what I meant with my comment, sure got me there.
But really, what I meant is that it's a huge slab of aluminum with sharp corners without any special feature. I know it's a niche project, but I really don't see the appeal in THIS ONE, not the hobby in general.
@LaMereACaniche calling it "pointless" and "unappealing" are two very different things. It's also just patently false that there are no "special features". Maybe the features just aren't for you. And that's okay! You don't have to come in here trying to convince everyone else that it's not for them too.
