I’ve been watching your vids since you left your kindergarten classroom and am impressed with how much you’ve grown. Your hard work and perseverance is evident, and has paid off! Thanks for your transparency in your work. Awesome job!
What trials? what tribulations? she sands off the old finish , then slaps on a primer and paint and sells it. there's nothing hard about what is being done here. there's no major repair work needed, she buying furniture that doesn't require any repair work. and if it does she bondo's or uses woodputty to fix the issue which is not a long term fix. infact it's no fix at all.
UK here, we have varnished wood on the top with a dark colour ( green, navy blue, paynes grey) underneath at the moment. Take a look, I think you’ll like the contrast xx
I was shocked when you covered up the leafy details. Those were one of the best things about it. I understand the modernization but I wish you kept the ornate touches and then modernized it with paint colors. But we all have our own style! The darker pieces you have painted have been my favorites. Especially anything French Provincial. ❤😊
It was the best thing about it! She literally made a whole different look and didn't keep not one thing from the original look! This set is old too, probably antique, it deserves to be handled as such.
@@amber_Forever16 Hi Amber, just wanted to reach out to let you know that the furniture is not an antique. An antique is over 100 years old and that style is from the mid-1980s. The design would work for someone who loved the cottage look. The wood is knotty pine.
@@ginenelafontaine8343 You're right. I looked at the set and said, that's the same PINE set that I have at my mountain house. It's not "antique" but certainly an 80's set and the condition is great because it's quality. I wished that someone could have reached out to Lauren and let her know more about the set before she started with all of the sanding and staining. You need to know your woods and how to "restore" them.
I have been doing a lot of pieces in a paint wash with Algonquin and then going over them with a light coat of aged oak gel stain. It has really made a difference in how fast my natural wood pieces sell. It adds the perfect amount of warmth to the wood instead of the more stark look of just a paint wash. I also use matte black hardware with my wood pieces and that makes a difference too with the contrast.
My mother had furniture from the 50’s that had a light paint wash that were then stained over that. This was called “blonde” finish, even when it was used with dark stains like walnut. The grain was filled with the paint, and then the stain went over the surface, and you would see those little flecks of paint through the stain. So the “blonde” finish from the 50’s could actually be dark colors. My mother had a bedroom set with a “blonde” finish on walnut wood, with walnut stain.
Excellent idea. I personally do not like the look of paint wash. It looks too trendy and cheap, in my opinion. I bet it is gorgeous with the warmpth of the gel stain!
Well it didn't sell and I think she shouldn't have covered them, I wonder if she can pull the boards off, and some black matte knobs would be better but imo I would've put pull handles instead of knobs, imagine the drawers heavy, full of jeans and then having to pull on the little knobs to open it, it doesn't seem right, it's solid wood so they're already heavy. That might be why they aren't selling
I agree with others I dont really care for the hardware. I dont know if I really like the color. Will say I enjoy watching your process. Praying someone will purchase
definitely! i thought the hardware I ordered was a bit more on the bronze/brass side but it kind of ended up being more coppery! I may switch it to black here soon if these don't sell! thanks for watching!
Another great flip! I personally wouldn’t get something that color in my house, but I know somebody will love it. But I agree with some other comments, maybe try black hardware if it doesn’t move soon. I always like to have it when the hardware color contrasts with the piece, makes it pop. I’ve learned a lot from this channel, keep it up!
The color wouldn’t be something I would buy, but I agree with others to switch to black hardware. For that price point, I think it would bring in more interest. Fingers crossed that it sells for you soon!!!
Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing this video and your trial and error it was fabulous to walk through your process with you, see what you thought worked and how you mitigated issues. It was a learning journey for us all! I also thank you for taking these pieces back to bare wood and giving them a new and updated look using a paint wash rather than covering it with opaque paint, it was fun to see it transform into something more modern. Really great job as always!
I would love to buy pieces finished by you! You are so thorough with your technique, as well as educating yourself…your experience and talents speak volumes! Love your work!!!
I have a set like this and I've been thinking about painting the bottoms that new dark teak blue green and staining the tops darker. This is gorgeous!!
Love the work you do, but my opinion is paint versus wash would have been better on this set and not loving the hardware color with the wash color. You are very talented, and I enjoy seeing your work and your success!
Wow, what a project! There's always room to learn something new, like using the bleach to combat blotchiness. So nice you had a friend to turn to for assistance. Love the trim you mounted to hide the leaves. It turned out very pretty and I'm sure someone will fall in love with it. The hardware is classy, love it! (I personally wish the knots didn't show through across the pieces, so sorry)
I hadn't seen any of your videos in a while, and your production quality has skyrocketed! Well done adapting and learning new skills (or hiring great videographer/editor)
Me, too, and I think if she just switched those up, she might find her buyer sooner. A little more contrast with a subtle color like that can work wonders!
Lauren, that set is a classic PINE set from Kincaid. Shaker Ridge is the design pattern in Kincaid Furniture in Hickory Park, North Carolina. It's a solid wood set, traditional in style. Pine is a great wood choice for people in areas with humidity. The refinish looks good but you might consider BLACK hardware and highlighting the original leaf pattern. Really enjoy your quality work!
Thanks for all that learning included in today video. I do have to say I don't like the stain on this piece I would've painted the fronts and sides cos it just doesn't look right to me
You didn't have to use stripper, so a few more sanding pads doesn't seem bad (to me). I like that you showed the snags along the way. I like the end product. They're worth every penny.
Thank you for your videos. Loved being able to see the reality of your decisions, choices, research and reaching out for help. This helps me to give myself some grace when things dont work out like I think the should. Great job. ❤
We just finally painted 2 of our pieces that were that color. Originally purchased in 1992 for our 2 year old son”s room. Have been meaning to repaint or refinish since 2007. Finally got around to it in a deep grey blue. I loved the whitewashed wood tone but my husband and son did not after 17 years. Someone will probably love these pieces.
To me, the final result looked like pieces you would find at a store that sells furniture you have to either stain or paint yourself after you buy. I think the original hue of the wood was way more pleasing.
Beautiful! I was surprised that furniture sets sell better. I thought the furniture set thing was a bit passé but obviously not. You have a great suggestion about using AI to stage pieces when selling them on FB Marketplace. One thing…we need an update on the Airbnb and how the store is doing!
I work with Popular wood in a small way a lot. I use a white paint for the wood to take whatever I want to do to it. I have stained it but it doesn’t take a lot and I used a dark color.
I love the big bachelor chests that have so much more storage than most small nightstands. More room for books and a drink and a lamp on the surface, too!
For me the hardware isn't the best option. But I'm thinking it's the skirting at the bottom that's holding it back. 🤔 Maybe change those lines and it'll move. So much hard work you did on these.

Kincaid Furniture brand is quality furniture. It has a four poster bed, night stand, chest of drawers and and armoire. Also came with a step stool to get in bed with, and thank goodness it did because I’m short and wasn’t able to get up in the four poster frame. ❤
Yes that wood is pine because of the knots in it. When I stripped paint off of trim in a house I owned I had to condition the pine wood with something (I can’t remember what it is right now) so the wood would accept the stain. If I didn’t do that, the stain would blotch like your wash did. The bleach and vinegar neutralizer accomplished the same thing it looks like. Anyway I agree with the others about the black hardware.
Yeah. I think trying the staining/paint,... On one pice or drawer and moving on to sanding down other pieces while the stained one is drying up would be best option for scenarios like this. It turned out great btw.

Not sure how I feel about these. The colour looks dirty and they’re just not appealing. Maybe darker hardware would have looked better. I believe the wood is pine. Appreciate all your hard work on it though.
Poplar was often used for painted woodwork. It naturally has a lot of green tones in it. Staining is hard because it has so much difference in its natural colors.

I also have a SurfPrep 3x4. I originally got it along with a kit. Now I'm getting to the point of needing to buy more sanding pads/paper. Do you buy online directly from SurfPrep or get from somewhere else?
What king of bleach did you use. I've bleached some pieces in the past and just used regular old bleach. Look nice but I agree darker knobs would make the blonde wood stand out a lot more.

Part of the wood grain.
I would buy that but I live too far away from you. Love it and it would be perfect in my master bedroom.
we deliver!! or we can set up shipping! email us if interested 😀 we just sold a set to a viewer recently !
