Yes, RH and SH have amazing chemisty, but he's one of those actors that has chemistry with everyone. I think I could watch him talk to a plant for and hour or read the phone book and be mesmerized. LOL
For Rebecca, it was obsession. For Marty, it was a mixture of guilt, kinship, and a tiny bit of lust. For Tea, it was control and necessity. But for Blair, it was always friendship and love. There was no other woman for Todd. This explains why he practically ignored Marty and Tea when he returned to OLTL. No other woman (save Starr) ever mattered.
Yes I agree. Tea bc she started out as his lawyer and wife stood up for him no matter what and really battled hard for him for starr so the lines got blurred. I think todd s attraction to tea was she was like the mother figure he was looking for. His bio mom.gave him up and his adopted mom who he loved abandoned him. Tea was a domineering woman who would be like a mom stuck up for him and kept him in line a lot about right and wrong . This is pretty common men often marry women who remind them of their moms ir If they didn't have one bc they lost them at a young age they seek that out. I believe todd loved tea but wasn't in love with her bc he could never get over blair . Marty he was obsessed with and the first woman as he said that made him care about since his mom. Rebecca was a step to humanizing him. If this sweet innocent girl could find some good in him he believed maybe he was good. Blair was his first real love , Rebecca was more like puppy love. Blair and he were two broken people who didn't try to change the other but by loving one another it made them better. I also think he was flattered that this beautiful woman would want to carry his baby. Like he said to her " I bet a lot of people told u to get rid of it bc it was mine like some demon seed but u didn't and more than that u wanted it " also he admired thay blair was strong and that she was the first woman since the rape who wasn't afraid of him. Todds not like any soap or TV character ud see once he fell in love with blair it was for life. He was very jealous and sadly that jealousy ruined their relationship plus like he said " truth is not Blairs strong suit and trust is not mine " I can see how devastating it was for him to be so excited to get back to blair after almost a year and to see her banging patrick on his floor killed him add thst the reason ge was even gone was bc he saved the guys life. He went crazy & kidnapped starr. A normal reaction wouod be to confront her. Still I've been in love and if I ever saw someone I loved so much sleeping with someone else would make me have that horrible sick feeling . It sux bc after months of being so angry at her they were so close to getting back together than blair finds out about the kidnapping .
i think todd loved both tea and blair in different ways, though obviously his love for blair was always stronger than his love for tea. i think that dismissing his love for tea tends to ignore the fact that todd never let himself be romantically vulnerable with anyone he didn't really genuinely love, which is why he unlike many other soap characters only ever got married to two people--blair and tea, both first out of convenience and then out of love. the writers clearly gave todd daughters with both women to parallel and contrast them the relationships that he had with them, and i love the fact that todd, who always had trouble with romantic intimacy found his two strongest relationships with women who were his family--viki and starr. with rebecca and tea especially, it was all about them trying to "fix" him as opposed to him wanting to be better for them, but i think if the key difference that people are picking up on between those relationship and the relationships with people like blair and viki and starr. it was never their responsibility or job to "make him better", but they made him see that he could be a better person.
His strongest relationship was with his sister Viki. He looked up to her and he loved her strength and sense of morality. Todd in his own way looked to people who knew themselves and he he strongly felt this way to Viki. The other women in his life were damaged in their own ways but they were damaged through him. Viki was the one person who brought out the best part of Todd which is why he can tell her anything and she got through to him more then anyone else.
I dont think Todd was in love with Marty here, but he did, and will, always feel incredibly guilty about what he did, and at this point he was too obsessed in making it up to her. He is connected to her in a very weird, strange way because of what he did, but that isnt love.
my thoughts exactly. todd saying "that's a little twisted, even for me" is a direct response to all people who wanted them to get together and all the romanticisation of rape storylines that was plaguing soaps like general hospital. rh and sh we always adamant that they did not want to go in that direction with todd and marty (which made the 2008 storyline all the more disgusting), and i can't really put it into words but i think their relationship between stronger and more interesting for it. todd and marty not getting romantically involved allowed them to just talk and exist in the same space with each other without any of the back and forth will they won't they drama that encompasses pretty much any relationship between men and women on soaps who aren't related.
@quin611 WOW Good question. They are so complex I don't think one answer could sum up this scene. Yet again proving how intense and brilliant Micheal M writing was. Marty giving Todd that cross I think proved she believe that he had changed and saw a better man in him (JMO but Todd only showed his true self to Marty) It also showed a weakness to Marty proving that the steal-wall she placed around her heart about Todd could be broken. I loved the look they shared at the end of that scene.
There was a faction of viewers that wanted complete redemption for Todd and for he and Marty to be romantically involved which I found appalling! I would my self would have preferred zero interaction with Todd and Marty. I have very personal reasons why I felt like that... I do remember Roger saying in interviews he loved to act and he liked the soap opera genre best. The reason Ireland saga happened if anyone had half a brain would have realized how much Roger had part in how it all came about... It was better for Todd to be bad ass boy and be alone for a time until the story lines of 1997 and 1998 then came TNT! Todd and Tea was not a traditional soap romance it was just a means for Todd to get back at Blair be cruel to her after her betrayals and lies that Todd felt she committed towards him....Kidnapping Starr the only person he could or would ever love and truly trust, refusing to be intimate with Blair and taking Starr from her... Actually Roger playing Todd this way was great for his career... IMO
@quin611 Todd & Marty was a drug that I could never get enough of in the 90's!! Especially written by Micheal M..This twisted connection they had and the acting between Susan & Roger was outstanding. I always felt they were beyond soap, their characters could have been written into a book or made into a movie. Susan & Roger had the IT factor. They are the classic Dark Twisted/ Non couple wondering on the what IF? you could never tell with these two. That's WHY it was compelling to WATCH!
Blair is such an open book, have a little mystery with your man. She is so worried about Marty and Todd hooking up. Is this the fastest breakup and get back together for Todd and Blair?
Actually, no he didn't. She came out of that trauma a stronger better woman with a new sense of confidence and self respect. She had to fight to get there, but she did it. Not saying that's to Todd's credit, it's to Marty's credit.
Marty was kinda nuts for talking and looking at Todd the way she did...this wasn't the case of L&L...Todd led a gang rape against her....there was a difference and RH was totally right to be against any kind of Todd and Marty pairing.
Todd standing there watching Marty and then while she walks away says so much without even using words, his true feelings are reveal in those small moments...I will always stand by my opinion that Todd Loved Marty the most out of the women in his life, but being Todd he destroyed his TRUE happiness and that's the tragedy of the character he could never find REAL happiness again, EVER....and in many ways, neither could Marty...they are 4ever connected by FATE...which was also very Twisted!
" I know this is hard for u Dylan but try not to do something dumb " lol. Or " u were too busy playing boyscout in the ghetto .. " lol. Only Todd & his one liners could just shred a person to their core. Dylan Def was pretty but dim. Todd even said to Marty something like he knew he was good looking but stupid lol. He said something like " he's not 4 u ur smart u can walk & talk at the same time " lol saying Dylan couldn't. It's funny Luna had all those brothers & the two hot ones him & ty were dopes. I so missed this Cassie. She was so sweet kind & w/ Todd non judgemental & was one of the few people who reached out to him or said positive things about him esp to Blair. When they had her get w/ Kevin she started changing & becoming sorta nasty & rude. And please after all Cassie went through losing William Tham finding river having to give him back than later adopting him she would never ever walk out on her own son for some sleazy affair w/ Kevin. I loved kirk Geiger Kevin but each Kevin got worse w/ a new personality. The Kevin Cassie left Andrew & river for played by Kevin Stapleton annoyed me. He was very obnoxious & sorta a jerk. I mean he was banging tea while still lusting hard after a married mom. Then they recast him w/ the most horrible pychotic acting Kevin ever in Tim Gibbs. He was just creepy & acted like dirty Harry. They also tried to make him this ladies man he had Cassie than banged that wacko nurse. He shoved a pin in Todd's arm while he was in a hospital bed. It was horrible. I also hated how they literally made Cassie go insane over Kevin & off to a mental hospital. First off Cassie survived way worse after losing her full term son & learning she would never have anymore kids. Yes that led to her in a mental hospital but she recovered stronger. It was insane that Cassie would be again in a mental hospital in a worse state over stupid Kevin. Then they had that Kevin go after his brothers ex & who he still carried a flame for Kelly. Plus that was cassues cousin. Kelly & Cassie became even closer than Cassie & Blair. I remember during the whole dorians childhood story Cassie & Kelly were like sisters & I'll never forget how the 2 both cuddled in dorians bed together a few nights. One I recall when Dorian was shot. They managed to drag Blair in to who still hated Kelly for the accident. It sorta made sense to me Kelly & Cassie were the closest as Blair was more like Dorian. Blair usurped Cassie as dorians closest Cramer girl. Dorian would say theirs " 2 kinds of Cramer women feelers & fighters. " I think clearly Dorian & Blair were the fighters. Although Blair was a bit harder than Dorian. Dorian actually was way more sensitive & wanted to be loved a lot more than I originally realized. Blair had a heart but b/c of her upbringing in foster care she Def was a hard boiled person. She also was able to recover from tragedies faster than many but the one thing that really almost did Blair in was Todd's presumed death in Ireland. That was the most raw & broken I'd ever seen Blair. She literally grieved & cried & never stopped talking about Todd for months & months. I mean it makes sense that was the happiest time night of her life. She had literally everything. She married the love of her life who was Rich to boot she was pregnant again w/ her precious baby & she actually had a family at her wedding including in laws dorian Cassie Kelly Andrew cj Sarah Joey & viki. Then literally the next day her husband flies off to Ireland to help a woman she has an irrational cause of the gang rape jealousy of. Not even romantic in Blairs head but just jealous that she felt b/c of Todd's guilt he'd probably put Marty sadly ahead of Blair which he pretty much did by blowing off their honeymoon to fly to another country & than unnecessarily stated to help some guy Marty knew for a week & gets killed. That's why their airport goodbye kills me cause she keeps saying she is so happy & loves todd so much it scares her. Or their famous fateful last words " the trouble w/ having it all is u can lose it all " plus Blair had a bittersweet reminder as she Said thr joy of baby starr kicking but it being a reminder that her father was never gonna hold her.
@izzatluv Wellll.....I remember the L&L rape and rape is rape. It took me a looooooonnnng time to accept the L&L pairing. I think keeping Marty and Todd non romantic worked best for their characters that has lasted for years and years.
@bjujubee don't you think that todd deeply cared for marty, but didn't necessarily love her in the all-consuming way he did for blair?? i do think marty meant something to todd after their first night together... but i doubt he learned how to love at that time. i really think he learned this through blair.
Todd too often treated (unrelated) women badly and they still stayed around, even Marty spent time with him after the rape though not romantically. He was abusive with Blair and also Tea who both came back to him afterward. (Even in a soap I don't like to see that.)
I will always believe that Todd is really in love with Marty..which is fine as long as marty doesnt feel the same way back...these two are the best!!! I hope RH comes back to OLTL!!
Todd knew that he loved Marty, but after what he had done he could never bring himself to admit it. With how jealous Blair was they could've made an interesting story out of Todd & Marty developing a stronger connection even without going the romantic route. It surprises me that the writers could've been so smart and so dumb all at the same time.
Those are bs interviews he left over money period. Roger knew how hot he was at the time if he had such a problem playing Todd Manning *which he did* he could of left a long time ago but no he did not he was offered mega money and took it as long as he did till 2003 and left the show for 8 years
You and some others probably NEVER watched any of Roger's interviews and there were several of them... I watched nearly every one I still remember what he wore and that he was and still is a very reserved person in real life this goes to show how great he is as an actor even today! On ATWT I and his many old and new fans got to see the range of his talent he was amazing!!
"Try and keep your hillbilly friend under control." I miss lines like this...and Roger delivering them.
"I know this is hard for you, Dylan, but try not to do something dumb." Lmao

It always been about TnB!!!
Todd never loved marty. he driven by guilt, Todd only loves blair always has always will,
I think he had a crush on Marty before she rejected him. I always felt his first real love was Rebecca but his true love was Blair.
@quin611 WOW Good question. They are so complex I don't think one answer could sum up this scene. Yet again proving how intense and brilliant Micheal M writing was. Its interesting how I find myself rooting so hard for Todd and Marty to make peace .
I don't see this magical connection between marty and todd it was boredom and angst for TnB
There was a faction of viewers that wanted complete redemption for Todd and for he and Marty to be romantically involved which I found appalling! In this case it was a good thing. Her asking if he was in love with Marty let Todd know That Blair still loved him and was jealous.
Also they were truly connected when Starr and Cole got together and their daughter Hope.
he was not in love with her. He just felt guilty for what he done to her and wanted to protect her. He left over contract money
You are so right..these two should be "civil" at best...Todd totally destroyed her life...
Actually, no he didn't. She came out of that trauma a stronger better woman with a new sense of confidence and self respect. She had to fight to get there, but she did it. Not saying that's to Todd's credit, it's to Marty's credit.
I just love Krista Tesreau!!! I loved her as Mindy on GLand love love love her chemistry with RH!!
