That line about not being able to take your dead friends names out of your phone knocked the wind out of me the first time I heard it. I've never had lyrics in a rap song hit so close to home before.
Joe Lally of Fugazi called one of his solo albums "Nothing is underrated" and this is exactly what I think. If you create great art there will always be people to appreciate it a lot. You just can't expect to have many of them, that's on a completely different page.

Wanna have your mind blown?! The line "Actin' a savage in the shadows of Rome" (which, incidentally, is my favorite part) refers to roads! Since the "protagonist" of the song is a biker who lives wild, and Rome invented roads as we know them, this line (which I thought was gibberish) actually makes perfect sense! God I love Aesop.
Aesop Rock is the shit !!!!! I love the old school Portishead feel that this beat has. He is a pioneer of hip hop. All of the mainstream garbage should take lessons from real hip hop heads. Hats off Aesop.
Aesop Rock was interview in the book series, *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP2*. He shared many of his rapping techniques. In this quote he tells us how he uses symbols to write down his lyrics. I have a system of maybe ten little symbols that I use on paper that tell me to do something when I’m recording."
I think it's pretty satisfying that the ballerinas are all asynchronous in their movements and appearance. Like, it's kinda righteous that they aren't stuck to a routine or archetype.
To be fair, Aesop Rock has rapped his share of coherent stories. There's Ruby '81 (in the same album as this song), Fumes, Fishtales, The Harbor Is Yours, 6B Panorama, Tomorrow Morning, One of Four etc.
I've been listening to Aesop for 9 years and I still have a hard time comprehending some of his verses, which makes it all the more worth while to listen to again and again, I'll pick up something different every time, eventually it makes sense out of itself
